I have an original Droid and I purchased a Samsung Fascinate off ebay the other day. I want to transfer all my contacts to my new phone but VZ told me they would probably charge me $20 to do this if I went in to their store. Is there anyway way to transfer all my contacts to the new phone without doing each one manually? I exported all my current contacts to a file on the Droid's SD card. Is it as simple as importing this file into my Fascinate? If VZ can make $20 to transfer contacts then this seems a little to easy. I plan on activating my phone tomorrow...

Thanks for any help.

If they are all tied to your google account they will transfer when you tie the new phone to your google account.

Provided you told it to sync with your google account...I've never had to import contacts manually and I do a lot of wiping and trying out of new ROMs.

As others have said above, Android will sync your contacts from your Google account to your phone automatically when you sign on to your new phone. But It would be much faster to just import the .vcf file from your exported contacts on your Droid. Sometimes it takes a while for all your data to be synced upon signing in on a new phone, so that would be my prefered method (importing from the .vcf file). I change ROMs a lot like Vermillion, so I usually restore everything manually just to speed things up. I would think the Verizon reps would tell you this if you brought the phone in to transfer the contacts because that service is usually only applied to feature (dumb) phones.

verizon has a free application called backup assistant. will this not work for you, op?

Backup assistant works very well and is free also, so that is another option if you do not have all your contacts in your google contacts. Either way should work.

If you export them to the SD card you just have to pull up contacts(on the new device) then import from SD card, this + BA + google transfer, one of those options should work.
