vzw has go the iPhone

Garbage how? Because of Android's security model? Because Android is open source? Because they have Tegra 2? Because they have 4.3 inch screens? Because they are LTE? Because they have Flash? Because they smoke the iPhone performance wise? Because they don't look pretty like iPhone 4? Because they don't have a single finger death touch? By the way Anandtech has shown that the Verizon iPhone has the same exact issue. :p

WP7 got overshadowed because MS is already falling into their old habits. They are glossing over questions about when they will push updates. WP7 has such potential but MS has to prove to people they can and will keep the updates coming like Apple and Google do.

You can have octacore 12Ghz cpu with 3-way sli gtx 580 in your phone but if you don't have the software to use it at an optimized level it's useless. I learned this when I bought into the whole "LOL THESE IPHONE CAN'T COMPETE WITH MY DROID SPECS" specs don't mean shit unless you got a polished OS to back it up... and thats what ios is... at least compared to android. I could give a ratass that android phones now have tegra 2 or dual core capabilities but it will still have a clunky, sloppy, unoptimized piece of shit OS.

The rest of the things you listed I'll go over briefly:

having a bigger screen doesn't make the phone better, some would say it makes it even more useless, the evo has the WORST battery life on the entire planet and it borderline pocketable. I don’t believe in watching movies on a phone on browsing the phone for hrs so I don't have about screens that 4.3 inches.

LTE is still in the beginning stages, has it barely rolled out yet. VERY few people are even noticing 4g speeds. Again this is the same analogy as having 3 gtx 580's in your phone but not having the software to optimize it.

I'll give you the single finger death touch; Google def has the right idea with a search, home back button. I hear apple is headed in this direction too tho.

Who really cares about flash anymore You keep viewing you spammy ads, I don’t care for it.

First off...I never said Android was better because of XYZ. I asked why Serpico called Android phones garbage and gave a list of items to see if those made them garbage.

Can you back up your claim of "unoptimized piece of shit os"? Benchmarks on Tegra 2 based phones are already slaughtering current single core phones. The demo Droid Bionic at CES scored 2300+ on Quadrant. That's nearly double the performance of say an EVO or Droid Incredible at stock speeds.

I never said a bigger screen made an Android phone better. I asked why Android phones were garbage and asked if the larger screen made it garbage.

EVO's battery life is NOT Android's fault. HTC/Sprint fucked up the EVO with piss poor design. Sadly, simply rooting and installing SetCPU can fix a lot of that.

LTE is still in the beginning stages, has it barely rolled out yet. VERY few people are even noticing 4g speeds. Again this is the same analogy as having 3 gtx 580's in your phone but not having the software to optimize it.

Again I was simply asking if LTE made Android phones garbage. However, I will talk about your inaccuracies since you brought it up.

Android has nothing to do with LTE speeds either. I live in the DC Metro area so we have LTE. We also have Sprint's 4G in some areas. A co-worker has an EVO. Speed difference is incredibly noticeable. Have I benched it? No, but it beats the shit out of my Droid and a co-workers iPhone 4 and our USB AT&T 3G aircards. That's what matters. It works and it's FASTER. That's what people will care about. Thus why AT&T can get away with calling their new network "4G".

4G will be the talk of the town for the next 12 months and you will see it rolled out relatively quickly so you can't ignore it.

I'll give you the single finger death touch; Google def has the right idea with a search, home back button. I hear apple is headed in this direction too tho.

Actually the rumor is Apple will be removing the Home button just like Google Android 3.0 is moving towards already. The buttons will be software driven and location will be based on orientation of the device. This was shown on the prototype XOOM weeks ago by Andy Rubin. That prototype was running an early version of Android 3.0. This was confirmed last with at CES as the XOOM definitely has no physical Back, Search, Menu, or Home buttons.

Who really cares about flash anymore You keep viewing you spammy ads, I don’t care for it.

Well since most of the major websites still make use of Flash I think it's pretty damned important. As for ads...what are these ads you speak of? First off Chrome plugins can be set to "On Demand" meaning Flash only launches if you tell it too. Secondly, with root access there are apps that will take care of that for you.

I loved how you skipped the parts about the Android security model and Android being open source. ;)

Even with the Verizon iPhone and the so called fragmentation of Android, analyst firms like Canalys are still predicting Android will still double the growth rate of competitors in 2011. Time will tell if that comes to pass but I can see it happening especially with Android 3.0 on the horizon. This is really shaping up to mimic the MS vs Apple fight years ago. Apple came out strong, kept everything closed, tight fisted and nearly died. MS was open has survived for years and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The only difference this time is it's Google vs. Apple.

I'm a long time verizon customer (10+ years) and I just heard on the news that they are axing their new every two program. I'll most likely be getting an iphone in june on VZW but without the new every two plan, I'll have to shell out more cash for the phone. Bummer.

pretty sure existing customers can still get the new every two program, but not new customers. I'm not a verizon customer, thats just what I read somewhere

He will get it under his current contract. But as soon as he gets a new phone with the discount and re-up's his contract, he will no longer eligible for another discount.

Exactly.

If you can't tell the difference between the superior and hardware accelerated UI of iOS and Windows Mobile 7, and the half-finished Android, then I don't know what to say. Throw as many specs and as much bulletpoint marketing (marketing that neckbeards buy hook-line-and-sinker) as you want to on an Android, it doesn't change the fact that the software is unpolished and that the practical user experience is sloppy in comparison to what Apple and Microsoft have brought to market.

I'll take a slightly laggy UI with functionality over a very fluid, but useless, UI any day.

aka, it ain't all about looks.

It's fine to have opinions but try not to be ignorant about them. To call a UI "useless" because it's not your preference pretty much discredits anything you've got to say on the subject.

Agree.

Considering a user interacts with the UI 85+%of the time, I consider it pretty important.

I dont understand the UI argument, how can poeple say Android wins that? Androids UI is NOT bad, and I prefer its notification system to iOS, but when in apps the iPhones unified approach is infinitely better to my eyes. I have having to press the menu button and then going through what is sometimes PAGES of options in apps. You never see that on a iPhone.

Huh? With Android you can set up widgets or shortcuts. You can drag any program to the home screen(s) to create the shortcut. You can even create a folder on one of the home screens and then drop everything in there. You could make it so you never even have to see the full list of programs but once in a while.

What he is saying it the menus within an app could have multiple pages i.e. BW is a good exsample of having 3 pages of menu options.

OMG... this means CDMA means it can be flashed to other cdma's like sprint or even METRO PCS whoaa... i phone 4 for 45$ a month Awesomeness.. Im wondering Does the new CDMA iphone support 4LTE? or HSPA.?

Android much better...than ios.. Ios is smoother with less errors if u dont fill them up. but IOS is sooo plain... its like its retard proof or something.. Us techy peeps perfer android the newbasaurs love iphone " its the best thing since sliced bread" a statement like that deserves the NEWBASAUR STAMP

Dunno what BW is. But honestly, the more pages in options the better. I love apps that let you customize.

These are nonsense complaints.

Yep and soon to be corrected since Android 3.0 is said to bring the UI hardware acceleration (the XOOM demo at CES appears to support this based on reports). I wonder what makes Android "garbage" once that happens? ;)

If iPhone users want to be holier then thou types because their pages and pages of nothing but ICONS are hardware accelerated that's fine. I'll keep on enjoying my useful widgets despite the current lack of hardware acceleration.

The iPhone fanatics are starting to get irritating with their tired and irrelevant 80's based rhetoric.

As opposed to the Android lovers, who only talk keen sense, always list reasons for opinions and objections, are willing to accept flaws in their arguments, and are genuinely knowledgable of all sides of the issue

The only people annoying here are ones who make blanket statements.

BW=beautiful widgets, I have to agree each OS has it's pro's and con's neither is perfect nor is either trash. It's really what the user wants their exspirenace to be. I have a Driod X I love it for what it is, but I will be getting an Iphone and i will like it for what it is. I will miss many things about my X.

Then I have to ask the obvious question. What will the iPhone do that the Droid X doesn't?

For me?...... Nothing, as a matter of fact I do feel like I am loosing some control over what I currently have default phone vs phone no roots no jailbreak). But I am gaining better hardware (IMO). I am also gaining the fact when a single OS release comes out I can upgrade and not have to wait for Moto or HTC or Samsung to make a choice when or if they will upgrade the OS and where on the pecking order my phone will go.

Okay. Fair enough I suppose. Enjoy paying for that upgrade.

That'd be pretty sweet if it could be flashed to Sprint. Wonder if all the services would still work. Never cared for an iphone, but that would tempt me.

The user interface is superior in my opinion. Small touches that make it easier to use.

Some interesting news:

But all of these moves are leading up to the iPhone 5 -- a completely redesigned handset -- which our sources say is on track for a summer launch. Right now, the device is being tested discreetly by senior staff at Apple (strictly on campus only). We don't have much info on the phone at this point, but our understanding is that the new device will be a total rethink from a design standpoint and will be running atop Apple's new A5 CPU (a Cortex A9-based, multi-core chip). This device, like the iPad 2, will feature a Qualcomm chipset that does triple duty as the CDMA / GSM / UMTS baseband processor -- from what we hear there's no LTE in the mix at this point.

You should hate to say it since it's only a rumor.

Remember 3 years ago when engadget said vzw was gettin the iphone in june of 2008... that was a rumor too.

Nope, I don't remember 3 years ago...I only had an iphone from late 08 to late 10.

I do know that apple releases a new iphone every june/july, no matter how many current owners they're fucking by doing so. Jobs will unleash the uber-cool iphone 5Gs touch shuffle pad 3 nano this summer, count on it.

I agree. Apps that give you options generally have settings menus and I can't think of any instance where options aren't a good thing. Conversely, all of the apps I had on my iPhone are exactly the same in Android, menus and all. These really are nonsense complaints.

Since Verizon (and AT&T) sells the iPhone for $200, that means each phone gets a $400 subsidy from Verizon. That's a direct hit to their revenue and cashflow which can affect how quickly Verizon rolls out LTE.

Yes... both AT&T and Verizon are paying $400 to Apple so you can get an iPhone by only paying $200 up front.

But aren't all smartphones like that? The full retail price of the Droid X is $570... but you only pay $200. Verizon picks up the rest.

Surely Motorola isn't selling their phones to Verizon for less than they are worth...

These really are nonsense complaints.

This, its also pointless to argue with either side about who is better. Just because someone prefers brand A doesn't make brand B inferior.

I have an iphone 4, when I upgraded from a 3g I tried an android phone and it just wasnt for me, I PREFER the iphone right now. Next time I upgrade I'll try another android phone and a windows 7 phone and I'll upgrade to whichever one I PREFER.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one

I have to agree with the last few comments. What phone or OS a person picks is totally up to them and the reasons why are also up to them. And for any other person to pass judgment on a personal choice is "nonsense". I am just happy to see that there is more choice in the market place an look forward to what comes about this year.
