If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the judiciary committee's chairman, said today that the government must take action against "online criminals" who harm American jobs by obtaining the nation's intellectual property without paying for it. Leahy made the statements as he laid out the committee's agenda for this session of Congress.

Leave it to a senator to make a mountain out of a mole hill, and find a problem of the lowest priority and attempt to fix it, by making life more difficult for all. Now not to say piracy is not a problem, but the country's where the priacy occurs in the the most couldn't care any less about what american patents and ownership rights and laws. Why don't you concentrate on getting people back to work, and this country making money and not spending money we don't have, then we will talk about piracy.

control control control, government needs to mind it's own buisness and butt out of private companies.

This sounds like it is more saber rattling with China and their software pirating more than anything else. The DOJ has already stated that music pirating and stuff like that isn't high on their list of things to do (see some other Front Page News article recently).

How about 1/2 the effort on putting the malware pushers in jail.

Roll call of shame:

Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and senior Republican member Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) will introduce the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act when the Senate returns to session later today. The legislation is cosponsored by Committee members Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), Arlen Specter (D-Pa.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.). Senators Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio) are also cosponsors of the legislation.

uh oh. looks like everybody's going to jail.

better build more prisons.

90% of college students pirate shit. Goodbye to tomorrow's America! with everyone in prison. yay.

I think every sane person agrees there are much more important issues that need to be addressed.

Don't these people have something better to do? I think I just puked a little thinking about all of the things I would like to say.

I mean, I'm no conspiracy theorist, but.. is our current government really trying to ruin our country?

When upwards of 10% of the nation is unemployed, people losing their homes and ending up on the streets, the economy tanking and the deficit spiraling out of control is this our top priority?

Right, we're all doomed.

Yeah and Its all because someone downloaded porn that thousands of actors are out of work.

Wow, more republican type logic..... complain to no end, but bring not a single realistic set of any solutions to the table...

GOVERNMENT... YOU MUST STOP THESE PIRATES!

When it boils down to it, they will ask back "So what do we do then?"

This fucking idiot won't have a single LEGIT clue to stop piracy (as usual). The RIAA and all these fatcats would rather take people to court and sue, rather than protect and figure out a way to increase their profits with an EVOLVING WORLD AND MARKET. If you don't change along with the needs of your clients, they will go elsewhere for the product.... how long has it been and the only single attempt at what I'm talking about has been that halfass DRM protection (which didn't work obviously)

and this is when you go here:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

you find the two senators that represent your state, and you voice your opinion. Let them know why this is a bad idea. I copy/pasted the same email to both senators and just changed my greeting to which one I was addressing. 5 minutes of your time, and you get to participate in this government rather than bitch about it and do nothing to help.

Seriously, the only way to stop this stupid shit from coming up again and again is if you let your elected leaders know how you feel. If the majority is silent, the vocal minority will get their way.

I find it so funny that people are saying there are bigger problems like unemployment.

Does piracy cost jobs? Software companies go out of business all the time and many blame poor sales on piracy. But I bet they are all lying right? Same with music? It does not sell because it is all crappy, right?

Is that why the bill is sponsored by 8 Democrats and only 2 Republicans? The Dems took it upon themselves to push a bill filled with Republican Logic?

Voters need to take action against corrupt politicians.

The big music labels have stolen over 300,000 songs. Why don't politicians do something about them? Then there's price fixing, collusion, payola, and failure to pay royalties.

Well that actually sounds good to me. I don't pirate anything anymore. But if they put just half of America's college students in jail, I could probably get a job as a Prison Guard... Just have to make sure none of them get their hands on an iPhone for 5 years and they should be rehabilitated. :p

Yes, thats why so many mainstream "musicians" are out of business right now...oh wait, they and the dogs that own them are still raking in record profits, in a down economy.

The company I work for went from building 5 houses a year to only building 2, is there some kind of mass house piracy going on? I demand compensation. I am going to sue everyone that has ever sold a house. I designed those homes, why do I not receive any royalties? Those people are living in something that I created, it is my intellectual property.

Written letters actually hold more weight then emails. Please considering printing your letter(s) and mailing them.

It's not about serving the people, it's about doing the bidding of the people who own him--the lobbyists. It's the same here, sadly.

Wow, somebody needs to pull their head out of the sand and take a look around. Dems are just as corrupt, just as ineffective in office as any republican. They just damage our country in different ways.
