Ikea desk gallery

...there is no way the Vika Amon has more room to offer than the Galant. No way.

It's modular like the galant, so it grows as needed. However, you simply have to connect them yourself, lol. Also, it does offer a better price per square inch than the galant! :D (vika usually goes on sale more often than galant)

... but there's something about not having that leg in the corner of the desk :D ...

Simple fix: simpson bracket + a dozen or so screws...

hm... you cant really tell in this pic, but yah, you can leave that leg off if you join the two tabletops with a simpson bracket... the two legs in the middle of this pic are along the wall. http://alphaq.org/kami/vika_amon_x2_rated_g.jpg

I stumbled across this thread when looking for a new desk, think I will be joining the Galant collective soon :)

Wow I can't believe I haven't noticed this thread before. I picked up my Galant something like 3 years ago now and have yet to see anything in the store I'd rather have, tons of room and flexibility and it has been holding up well for me.

I don't have any recent pics, this is how things were 6-8 months ago, re-doing the office a bit and changing over to a different monitor setup too. Desk extends 2-3' past where the picture cuts off, works great for having multiple monitors/pc's and laptops and such and still having room to work!

Love seeing how everyone has set their ikea workspaces up, gives me some nice ideas for mine! I'll update pics once the office is re-done.

Came accross this thread by accident, I love Ikea! And it doesn't hurt that it's a 5min walk from me.

Went with a black'N'white theme, all from Ikea

Currently using my old pc hw without a case on a chair, waiting for sandybridge and thinking of getting a Arctic white fractal r3 case.
Just wondering, what kind of sulotion is best looking? Hate cable cludder, tired of zipties.. Might get a few black "spirals" for the cables.. any other suggestions? Sorry if my english fails : )

Thinking of spray-coloring the "glass" of the spotlights with transparent smoke or ble sky color. Anyone know a website that sells? I guess it has to be a bit heat resistant.

@doctah: Thank you! Not sure why i didn't thought of that

@roadlesstraveled: Thank you, much appriciated : )

@capreppy: Thanks, I'm quite happy with the shelves, tried to be a bit creative and made "stairs" looking shelves. Instead of the "W" shape like it was intended to be. Not really happy with the channels were the wiring went, barely fitted cause of all the wiring.

That's going to be an awesome desk!! Please post the finished work.

i plan on it :). total cost will be about $380. epic win :D. i even have enough extra pieces to make a mini galant desk. not sure where i would put that though hehe

I got a lot of inspiration from this thread and some others when redoing my office.

Hey . . . did you just recently repaint your walls or have they been that color? They're almost exactly the color of my walls that I repainted earlier this year (and think posted in this and other threads)!

I did repaint that within the last month. Although to be fair, I've been thinking about painting my office red for oh like 3 years.

Good choice of color! ;)

I've been waiting on the arrival of my FT02 Red case as well the Sandy Bridge parts before I update my pics & post for 2011. You'll see the color's just about the same. Orange FTW!

Currently I'm using a door desk, thinking I want to move to a Galant.

I need something that is comfortable for 3monitor setups. Either 23-24inch monitors, in portrait, which should be about 34inches across. Obviously they need to be straight in front of me. is this galant a good choice?

That's the Galant, so yeah, it's a good choice. If you buy it in store, they have pamphlets showing all of the different configurations. You just pick out what you want. In the case of your linked configuration, you'd get the corner desk, three legs, and an extension. In addition to the square extensions, they sell two different styles of rounded corner extensions.

Hey guys I'm new to the forums and I was just planning an 800D build, can anyone tell my if a corner vika amon ( http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/50178798 ) will fit an 800d easily enough with a 23" monitor? And you all really have some awesome setups.

Product dimensions
Length: 47 1/4 "
Width: 47 1/4 "

Don't know if you are common with the 800D but it is a HUGE case... and a 23" monitor, ya I think it will be a little tight on that desktop

Massive case. It's weight once filled is very heavy as well especially if you're going to water cool in it.

The nearest IKEA is over an hour away so I was going to just grab one online. Currently I'm using a Door desk, so the dimensions I need can be anywhere from 90 across, but up to about 60 from the corner if It's an L. I just need it large enough to fit 3x1 portrait monitors which are like 33 across straight in front of me. I don't know if that will work in the direct corner, it'd probably need to be on the long side.

Ikea's website is pretty terrible to be honest. It's quite annoying to configure anything.

Hi guys,

I've currently moved into a new home where I've got my current desk in the centre of the room where the rear of the desk is facing the door (like an office ).

Found heaps of great photos on this thread, but all the photos contain desks which are against the wall. Does anyone have a set up where the desk is in the centre of the room? I've currently got the back exposed with the cables looking like a big mess and need some ideas.

ikea sells a wire organization unit called the signum, only problem is the cables will still be exposed. BUT! you could always build a box/cover for it.

Just bought my Galant yesterday and finished putting it together today. What a fantastic desk. Got the signum wire thing underneath hanging with yarn(lol) since I didnt feel like drilling it into the desk after just vacuuming. I will be getting a U3011 later this month so this setup is just 'for now'.

Finally I can contribute to the thread lol! Here's a few pics :) If you think it's overkill for a laptop...it's not :p lol I'll build a new rig one of these days!

Ikea Galant (black brown) desk w/ T-Legs. It seems that I kind of have this black and silver theme going on. Not intentional, but cool none the less!

Photos are ones I took in the past and thought would look cool in a frame :D Just need to pick up another silver frame to complete it.

I wonder how those Galant desks with their various leg options hold up against the Jerker desk in terms of load carrying capability? I got a lot of CRTs on my Jerker, and I'm kind of wondering how a Galant would hold up to carrying 2 20" CRTs plus assorted junk and someone hammering away on a keyboard if I ever need to replace the Jerker for some reason :)

I'm so angry, I love my galant but I think I want to raise my monitors off it so they are eye level. Ikea doesn't have the Lack or ekby shelves on their site in stock, and I'm not going to drive an hour for a piece of wood.

Looks like I have to customize and make one myself... It's never going to be the same color since my galant is black-brown. I might have to just paint a piece of wood black from home depot and hope it works.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Just to get the monitors up to eye level so I'm not looking down on them.

edit: and anyone know what lights these are? http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1731/roomr.jpg
