AMD Dual-Core Opteron 185 2.6 GHz Processor

I see them selling on ebay for $150 +

Why so much?

It's an older processor that's hard to find. There's nothing special about it. It sucks performance wise, but if you have a server that needs and upgrade then you need to pay the price.

for a person who isn't a dick and is selling it.. $30, in the real world, yeah..$150-$500...slight exaggeration btw.

You can get a decent 2.8 dual core for around $90... if its used, I'd say $75 shipped max.

So is it worth $30 or $200? Seems to be pretty far off numbers.

TBH it's worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. If it isn't worth $200 to you then it isn't worth the $200 asking price to you. Now, if you have one and are trying to sell it you can ask whatever you want to ask and see if it sells.

It's one of those "market sets the value" things. There are folks with older systems that will cost thousands to replace and cause unknown amounts of actual company downtime that help these CPU's hold a high resale value relative to their capability.

So if you just look at what the cpu can do, it's worth maybe 30 bucks these days when compared to a similarly performing modern CPU. When it's a matter of "replacing this will cost us thousands, how can we extend the equipment lifetime" it's worth a couple hundred dollars.

Sell it on ebay for the best bet. I dont know anyone on here who is going to pay what you want out of it. u can sell anything on ebay. there was also a girl who sold a corn flake the shape of Illinois for $1,350

Remember guys somethings only worth what people will pay for it. If its getting that much on Ebay, then list it already!! What are you waiting for?? :p

I had an Opty 165... Man, that seems so long ago.
