163K for Top 20 PPD

Someone will be able to move into my spot soon. Making some changes, again, and may be spending some time back with the Commandos for a bit. I've achieved several F@H goals recently so it's time to try something different. :)
Hopefully it won't be too long because we're still in the fight with big E and yesterday they hit 15M PPD... BTW, what the heck is your secret for achieving goals? Mojo? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Sadly, it's called OCD and not really a good thing.

Woo hoo a batch of good Wu put me over 200k average and into the top 10 for the first time in a long time.

It's insane how we've all ramped up over the past two years alone. Seems like I always go back to the good old days when 20k PPD was high end output, and was hard to beat. When the Genome@Home project ended I had produced a total of 134798 WU's and was ranked 86 in the whole project (right under APOLLO who was ranked 79th). I have no idea how many PPD I averaged back then. Seems like between all of us we produce that many WU's in a day anymore!

its gettin stupid...170k ppd for top 20 now...uggghhh

I've just been searching the forum and noticed the old thread 145K+ PPD -- You bastards! was dated on the 15th of December - so the top 20 threshold is currently rising ~1k ppd a day

PS: At my current throughput, if everyone stopped (not stopped increasing, stopped output dead!). It would take me 16 years (based on my current output of ~15kppd) to get into the top 5!!! Yes, there is some serious sustained output going on up there, pat your self on the backs.

Yeah, I remember too that 20K PPD would get you up there really easy. Now, that won't even get you into the top 100. Back in the olden times, I still remember Relic trying to get the team's output up to.......5K a day! And I thought he was smoking crack because we were only producing about 3K a day. That really puts things into perspective of how things have changed and what it took to get 1 million points back then. It almost makes me feel a little dirty when my -bigadv rig puts out more points in one day than 300-400 machines could in 3 days just 8 years ago. Wild!

I joined in the push for 5 million combined points from the top 3 teams.
And the [H]orde was going for 3 million.

My first farm's output from 6x dual 2400MP's was only ~1k PpD.
That put me ~25th in the [H]orde.

Also when I redid the badges, I stopped at 90,000,000 never thinking anyone one would get over 100,000,000.
As it happens, I was the first one ........ :p

Luck ............. :D

Man, you guys put my measly 7,800 PPD to shame :( But thats just my average compy. I am going to add my two other machines...But I will never attain anything higher than 13k I think.
Are you all running multiple systems with quad SLI and SR-2 boards??? o_O

Nope, pre-LGA1366 and pre-Fermi parts here and only one system has three GPU clients. The rest have two, one or none...

Apollo doing it old school. With all the WU he kicks out he must be getting some serious science done.

Most people on the list have a SR-2 (or few) doing the heavy ppd lifting with a mix of other clients making up the balance.

It will be fun to see with hardware about to do a shift in a few areas what happens. Not to mention the possibility of an ATI client sometime in the future.

Not that I run any current ATi hardware, but ^^^ this ^^^ would certainly be sweet in the realm of F@H...

Wait till the bug bites [H]ard ............ :p
Then your PpD will increase.
Plus don't sell yourself short.
Its all the small PpD folders what make the [H]orde such a force that it is.

My farm.
1x SR-2 system running the -bigadv client for +125k PpD.
1x Skulltrail system running the -bigadv client for ~30k PpD.
5x i7 Systems running the -bigadv client for ~30k PpD each.
7x 9800 vid cards running the GPU2 client for ~5.5k PpD.
But I got the money to buy and run the hardware the [H]ard way.
Why do you think my nickname is Tigerbiten ............

Luck ........... :D

Don't think anything less of your production, because the average team #33 member here produces around 6k ppd or so. You are still helping to further the cause of knowledge that could one day lead to knowledge that can be used to help find cures to some very horrible diseases. I started out folding classic uniprocessor work units on my laptop last April until I got addicted and had folding1 built. Then I got more addicted and had folding2 built. Then I ran out of money for the time being.

Possibility? You speak as if you have no faith

One can hope that it will be out soon and it will be optimized, as it would be nice for people to be able to buy other hardware for folding purposes.

Yup, this is a very diverse group of folders which is what makes our team so special. We all do what we can hoping that one day, knowledge will bring about knowledge that can cure some very horrible diseases.

I don't envy what you had to go through as that must have been terrifying.

Don't feel belittled....

We each do what we can.

I've been at this years, even before I had a machine doing 900PPD and no-one believed me because that number was outrageously high for a single machine. Now I'm down to one really fast rig, and 3 lappies. The desktop is only running part time and the lappies are running almost all the time. I've been as high as 8 machines and as low as 1. It is the diversity of our team that gives us our strength. And yet we have no diversity, we have two common goals, first call it community service if you will, second we are a team of people working together to be the best (non-sponsored) team there is.

As said above, the average person is 6KPPD, you are already doing more than that... but think what 100 people who make the average can do... more than any one of our top people. This is why for [H]ard DCer of the month, the "unknown folder" keeps coming up as a nomination.

each of us making to little to be noticed around all the "race cars" should take pride in what we do.

we are a team of people working together to be the best team there is. period

fixed that for you :)

Corporate sponsored teams don't deserve to even be mentioned in the "best team" discussion

every single member counts...do not feel a bit ashamed. Feel glad that you are contributing.

No matter how much PPD you have or what team you fold for......

Yes, every ppd count and remember that one day, a single work unit might yield the key to a cure ;)

I do remember back 2-3 years ago where my 25k ppd out of a 20 SMP farm give me the 1st position, trading the 3 first ranks with a few during the time. Now that I produce almost triple the ppd, I'm not even worth the 30th position in the team  That's a lot of ramp up and committement to the [H]orde.

hell I remember when I had to maintain 1600(!) classic clients to make ~100kppd

That is amazing. I can understand if the current point system "irks" you a little bit as it almost belittles the efforts and resources you put into keeping 1600 clients going back then. The WUs and the science got done though. If you look at just the WUs completed by our team, members like Midnight Freak and Brian Taylor are still in the top 20. This sounds weird but, I recently passed Mattman and Celerator in points, but they are still "giants" to me. I wanted to somehow pay my respects and recognize their efforts as I passed them.

Wyxe... only those two?

I felt I had to pay respects to MidnightFreak[H]. at 4 milly, he was a monster once long ago.

I definitely feel a bit of guilt as I pass some of the giants of days past.

Xilikon is on my radar....please accept my pre-apology :)

Apology accepted, my ass needed some shaving :p

ugh. wedged out of the top 10 by 404 who apparently had some nice PPD days.

also I see I'm gaining on Tobit. c'mon tobit....you're the only folder on my radar right now. Can't you do better?

Wyxe... only those two?

Well, those two I have passed recently. Metaphorically speaking, I have humbly pointed my eyes to the ground as I pass all of those "giants" out of respect of what they have contributed over the past 10 years.

Edit: I see I'm about to pass FlyingOak. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen. FlyingOak has been a huge contributor from the beginning. I admit that I have benefitted from the GPU and -bigadv clients which have allowed me to "run with the big dogs" in point production. But I just want him/her to know that I understand that I have yet to put half the resources, blood, sweat, and tears into this project than he or she has. My respects honestly. It makes me want to do more if I can.

I'm almost tempted to start some kind of "Official Wave/salute/pass respects thread" for these guys.
Flecom I can't even phathom managing 1600 clients. Buggy-Ass uniprocessor clients at that!!! That is F***ing [H]!

For some reason my ppd keeps going from 230 to 190k constantly, my machines are in synch I guess :p but 215 should be my actual average, which is a tight spot, there's a lot of ppl at ~215.
