Straight to the point. Should I try and get the Droid X from Newegg for free which was a deal they were offering a few days ago and they messed up my order, or wait for CES / LTE phones which ill prolly pay $200 for?

Also anyone know any good stock tracking apps?

Thanks
Brad.

Honestly I have the DX right now and I am really not happy with it. One of the big things that got me into Android was speed and the availability to customize their phones.

1) The DX barley has anything out right now in the open source community because it is a crap phone and locked down.

2) The DX was more designed for the basic consumer and not the computer/phone savy people that are out there.

Don't get it. I would just wait or find another alternative. If you are going to go with Verizon get the Fascinate if you can't wait.

I have a Droid X and put the Apex ROM on the phone(pretty easy directions). I'm not sure what lilb3119 is talking about for either of his points as it is an Android phone and can load any of the MANY open source or closed source applications.

The Droid X has a wonderfully large display(too big for some). They will have some new phones coming out in Spring, so you need to decide for yourself if you like the screen size and speed(pretty snappy phone, especially with the Apex ROM). The new phones coming out may have 4G(only in certain markets for the first year or 2) and faster processors(like the 1.2ghz dual core) processors so it may be worth the wait...but...free is a REALLY good price.

I have one and I'm happy with it. Granted, I'm no power user, but it was easy enough to root and get it to do some cool shit. The stuff I do with my phone can be done on pretty much every android device(manage my usenet downloads, ftp, wifi tether).

It ain't perfect, as I have to reboot it every now and then, but I'm pretty satisfied with where it's at now.

I tried the Apex ROM and currently using the new Fission ROM that came out but still my phone seems awfully slow and laggy at points. I understand that custom ROMs have glitches and bugs but I feel without custom ROMs the phone is even worse. Honestly every user is going to have a differnt opinion on phones and there phones. The only that I like about the DX is Verizon's network. But like l00segravel said it is ultimately your choice.

If nothing else, pay a little more, get a 1 year contract. That way you don't have to be tied down for too long.

The Droid Incredible still is on par with the top Verizon Android phones and can be had for very little $$, if not totally for free.

I use iStockManager on my Incredible all the time.

Thanks for all the opinions. I hate contracts after a big problem I had with Alltel. I wonder ifthere is any type of deal for a one year contract. Or if I can find a decent smart phone on eBay or something?

The camera on the DX is crappy. I consider it the worst feature on mine. Taking stills are a crapshoot for clarity but video is great. I like the size being an old fart who can be a little hard of seeing at times. Mine is rooted and I probably have too much crap on it but I do a boot every day which helps keep the smoothness. When I first got it It was over a week before I booted and it was like molasses and yes they do recomment that you boot it once a day.

If you were going for a DX to start with, and a screwup on someones elses end resulted in you not getting one...why not go ahead and get one now? The new LTE phones will start dropping in January after CES..but the question would be then, are you in a LTE area where you will be using it, and do you want to pay for the higher priced service?

As far as the Droid X goes...I wouldnt swap mine for any other Android phone on the market as of right now, nor any phone "rumored" to be coming down the road. The only way I will give up and swap my X is when a dual core, 1.25-1.5ghz, Tegra based phone with a 4.3" screen with no mechanical keyboard is available...preferably designed by either HTC or Motorola...

This phone, regardless of what some would say, was and is designed for the "power user"...if not, then why does it have better battery life out of the box than the other flagship Android devices on VZW? The only area lacking for a power user, IMO, is native Corporate Email support, and syncing with Outlook. Both of these issues can be gotten around though.

There are quite a few devs out there producing for the DX...JRummy, 928Droid, and even Koush...and there are various ROMS to be had..its all in knowing where to go to get them...Droid Forums and XDA being the 2 best sites IMO....

Im in Tampa which is supported by LTE.

Is it true it will cost more for the 4g service? I was looking for information on that. I know it costs extra for the laptop service plans.

Battery life is important to me and i have read that the DX has the best battery life of droid phones.

Why does it seem like everyone is recommending the Fascinate?

Fascinate is a very nice phone, probably the best of the Galaxy S series. I tried one for a few weeks, but ended up keeping my Incredible. HTC makes the best Android phones, IMO.

If you already pay the $30 a month you should be fine. To my knowledge there is no extra charge for the 4G service on a cell phone.

I live my droid x and it syncs fine with my corporate outlook calendar, email, and contacts with no extra software/app needed. Now that I have gotten this big screen.I don't know if I could ever give it up. Also I have a 2600 mA extended battery which lets me use the hell out of my droid x all day without any worries of a dead battery. I would definitely recommend it to someone.

If you can afford it, I would definitely hold out for the LTE phones. I'm holding onto my half-busted Droid until then. The HTC Thunderbolt/Incredible HD/Mecha (or whatever the hell it's called) should launch in the next month, but I dunno if I can ditch a physical keyboard still. The next Droid-esque phone to launch with a dual core proc and/or tegra gets my cash immediately, but that's wishful thinking right now as I haven't even seen any leaks of next gen phones with keyboards, so I might just get that Tegra LG phone when it launches this spring.

A better question would be, Will I be able to get speeds faster than 3g for the same price as currently being offered? All of the stuff im reading about data usage packs of 5/10gb is pretty lame.

No one knows for sure yet how Verizon is going to charge (if any more than normal data) for 4G or if there will be a cap. There has been no official word on the matter yet. Sprint has got everyone assuming they will charge more since they do. I'm sure we'll know in the next few weeks shortly before their new 4G phone launch though.

I agree 100%!
