So im looking into getting a projector for 3d gaming on my ps3, i was browsing and comparing prices when i stumbled upon THIS PROJECTOR, it seems to serve everything i would want, the reviews are good and it says its 3d ready so i would assume that it would support 3d gaming on the ps3 (with proper glasses of course), the price is good, i really didn't want to spend more than $1,000.00, but since this is my first time shopping for a projector, im really not that in-tune with what is good and what isn't.

I read that the bulb life is pretty short, like 5000 hours or something, are bulb replacements expensive?

Would anyone here possibly recommend another model, or is this as good as it gets for this price, its $749.00

Thanks

does that projector have hdmi 1.4? i think that is required for the 3d from the ps3

3d is still a grey [gray] area, there are not a lot of standards, everyone is just doing whatever works - you can spend $9k on equipment only to find out it doesnt really work together...

a lot of these 3d ready tvs and projectors are not compatible with the variant that sony is using via the ps3, they tout 3d ready because of the 120hz refresh rate

but many lack the physical ports or specs to be truly compliant...

dig into it on the internet and see if you can find a true answer - i had a 720p projector [upgraded to 1080p] and i loved it for movies and some games [rock band, dj hero, god of war III, heavenly sword, etc]

edit

looks like none of the cheap 3d projectors will be compliant because of the whole hdmi 1.4 thing - found this site all about 3d gaming

Ok, thanks for the info.

A projector with HDMI 1.4 seems to be pretty rare specimen, i mean it (posted above) can still do other forms of 3d like if i run it through my pc using nvision, which is fine to.

I might have to bite my tongue and go with what i was set on.

im kinda in the same boat - i want a pc/ps3 solution for 3d

i have a 1080p projector so ive been looking at monitors/tvs - samsung has a plasma tv that will do the job for the ps3 but not the pc

and all the monitors are 23.6" at best...

sooo... im going to wait a bit and see what comes out of ces 2011

PS3 3D uses frame packing which that projector does not support, it would only work with a PC (presuming Nvision supports it). Also this whole 3D thing is so screwed up right now some projector 3D doesn't even work if you ceiling mount the unit (the frame fire incorrectly in you need to wear the 3D glasses upside down).

Also don't get a non wide screen projector for use with a console. Especially with a unit like that Viewsonic (which is 5:4 aspect ratio), you are going to be wasting a ton of the projector's output on black sections of wall. Plus that looks like a presentation projector so the black levels are going to be horrid in a dark room.

There isn't a decent projector under $1,000 that works for consoles and PCs for 3D.

Don't buy a DLP projector unless you go out and try a cheap one somewhere else first. Google "DLP Rainbow Effect". If you are sensitive to the rainbow affect, your experience with a low end DLP projector is going to be completely dreadful.

Awe, c'mon ocellaris you're bringing me down ;)

Maybe i should hold off until something more desirable comes around, or maybe just buy one just to see what I'm in for if i decide to get a proper 3d projector down the road.

OR, should I forget about 3D all together and just get a decent projector, I'm looking at THIS one, but the price is not really in my range.

decisions decisions.
