Hey guys,

Just wanted to say I got a neat little X2 555 BE.... she unlocked all four cores with ease and with the Ai auto OC it ended up at 3.7GHz... I didnt change anything on the board. (Asus M4A89GTD PRO)

The board's BIOS is incredibly hard to understand for folks with MID like me, but it seems pretty solid!

Happy OCing and merry xmas,
-J. :D

I think that chip should be very high, if not on the very top, of everyone's list for a budget build (I know budget is a very relative word.)

Enjoy the quality product at a steal of a price for what you get.

Congrats on the chip! Now try to go 4ghz, you can do it ;)

Yeah, they're pretty slick. I put one on an MSI 890GXM-G65 board, unlocked all 4 cores and got it stable at 3.6Ghz with a slight bump in voltage. I am using the the stock heatpipe cooler from a 965BE with no problems.

Only issues that I have had are from running crossfired 4850's. One was having enough PSU for the 2 cards and OC'ed cpu, and the other was getting all the heat from dual videocards out of a micro-case.

But other than that, I'm pretty impressed by the 555BE, ( and that's coming from a guy who has 2 - OC'ed 965BE rigs and a 4.0Ghz i7 rig ).

Sad, because I've had one out of three get all four cores unlocked, and that one CPU did not get above 3.4 GHz with a ton of volts. :( Good job though!

I bought one, it unlocked and does 3.6 with no voltage raising or anything. Probably the best bang for the buck I ever had, reminded me of the celeron 300a days and how cool that turned out to be.

My 555BE does 3.8ghz unlocked to 4 cores at 1.44 voltage. Probably the best bang for the buck chip I've ever gotten.

She can go 4ghz but my AMD board has no mosfet cooling so I don't want to blow her up.

That's my experience with my son's computer build. Ulocked like a champ and 3.6ghz with stock voltage on a cheapo MSI board that came with the Microcenter bundle. Can't beat a cpu/motherboard combo like that for $100.

Gawdamighty! I guess Im the only person in the world who's 555 wont unlock to 4 cores. Oh well, I guess I shouldnt bitch too much. 3 Phenom II cores at 4 GHz for $85 aint too shabby.

My x2 555 unlocked to 3.8ghz stock voltage, I can say, welcome to the club. You got all 4 cores unlocked so great job there :).

How long ago did you order your CPU? I'm going to order a 555 BE after Christmas, and I wanna unlock it. Doesn't AMD just deactivate the cores on good chips just do have chips to sell?

Like I said, mine would unlock all 4 cores but the 4th one is unstable and wouldnt post. With the 4th core disabled, its perfectly stable even up to 4 GHz.

If you want a quad core, you should buy a quad core. There is no guarantee youll get a successful unlock. AMD does disable the cores but not just on good ones. They also take ones with 1 or more crap cores and disable them and sell them as dual cores.

In some cases. Some chips have cores that work but they use too much power or clock very poorly. Others are plain defective.

Well, I'm on a tight budget, but I'm buying my parts keeping in mind that there is a chance of the cores not unlocking. I won't mind a dual core, if it can't unlock then I will probably just overclock it pretty high. Either way, it will still be a good buy.

Nice, I got mine to 3.8 but needed a slight voltage bump with all 4 cores.

I'm in the same boat here as others have said.. want to upgrade for the cheapest bang for buck value.

It's either the x4 phenom 955 ($150) or the faster version of this chip, the X2 560 Black edition ($99) which apparently unlocks to x4 cores. This would end up being faster, and cheaper if I go with teh 560 right? It runs at 3.3ghz and I could easily unlock and up it to 3.5Ghz.....

Here is my risk though, what are the odds that my x2 560 WILL NOT unlock? I see almost every reviewer says they OC it to 3.7+ and unlocked 4 cores so I don't see why someone would even buy the 955BE if its basically the same exact thing. Someone please help me out, I don't know jack about AMD chips and I'm upgrading from a Pentium D 2.6Ghz w/ ECS mobo that just failed so I need to know ASAP!

I am looking at the top rated, GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard as well, so if there is something better that can OC/game better please hook a brother up with a link :D

The chip was purchased at Canada Computers in Mississauga for those who were wondering. :)

Would increasing the voltage increase the stability of a faulty core? When I first put my computer together all 4 cores would unlock but it was very unstable and I ended up disabling the 4th core (0,1,2 work fine at stock clock/voltage). I haven't even tried to overclock it yet.

if you want better luck, you could buy a 550 or 555 or 560 from someone used that managed to get it unlocked...

yep... try that.. a small bump in voltage

I have purchased almost 20 Phenom II x2 555 chips so far from microcenter, one of them did not post even at stock settings, the others all unlocked to quad

my wifes unlocked to quad and hit 3.6GHz while under volted :)

Do you know if they all shipped from the same state/location??? I really want to know the odds of me getting a non-quad unlockable Phenom x2. It will take too long to find a used one... i just found one posted less than 3 hours ago, I clicked on it (0 replies on a recent page) and the guy ALREADY SOLD IT!

I'd rather just buy one new anyways so I have the full 3 year warranty from AMD using my own receipt.

Does anyone know the odds of getting a failure @ unlocking? I am either getting the 555 x2,or 560 x2 as of today

I shouldve checked if the auto OC bumped the voltage but I don't think so...
