Partition that had OS pooped out on buddy's laptop and he asked me to go see what I can save from his Documents folder.
I put the drive in an external enclosure -

I can see the folders but when I click a file, it says I "don't have the correct permissions to access the file location"...

I've changed ownership and I THOUGHT I changed permissions but I still can't access the files...

what am I doing wrong?

windows 7 the documents & settings folder is a link, not an actual folder
you need to go to \users\name\xxx

I'm trying to access files on an old XP laptop drive that I have connected as an external USB drive...

I'm setting permissions on the direct folders that are in there... am I missing something?

Run Explorer as an admin and you should be able to gain access to the files. they will be located in the user folder on the c:\
