I just saw and article regarding Foxconn "sweatshop" in China.

It made me wonder, are there ANY US made motherboards that are actually competitive?

By Chinese standards, Foxconn's 'sweatshop' is really nice actually.

haha, that's actually what i figured as well, judging by the article.

I try to buy US made stuff every chance I get, but for PC stuff, or anything electronic, it doesnt seem to happen.
oh! except for my shaver, that was made here!

I have some plastic cups that were made here.

Actually most of the Glocks in this country are made in the U.S. as well. HK and Glock both have factories here.

True. Glock's is in Smyrna, GA. I just love my Python. I can't just walk by it without having to pick it up, even though it'll probably be relegated to being a safe queen by and large. When I get a safe that is.

Mushkin is based out of Colorado, so they most likely make their stuff in the US. That's only memory and stuff though.

I don't think any of the big manufacturers on the market are built in the US, they either get built in China, or Taiwan (Gigabyte is based and manufactured there, I think Asus is based there as well).

ASUS and Gigabyte are both based in Tapei Taiwan. In fact they are headquartered across the street from one another.

Are evga's mobo's at least assembled in the USA, or are they all pre-made in taiwan?

I don't know if H&K manufacture in the U.S., I know the slides are made in Germany. The frames on some models may be manufactured in the U.S.

Well the frames are at the very least. Many of them are marked as being made in the US. Although some of them, like my HK-45 and USP Compact were made in Germany and have the import marks on them.

Hmm it's good treasure hunt. try to find anything that is computer related, that is made in US.
Even Cisco's 1k SFPs are all made in China. There is just no other way around that.

Pretty much. Most everything for our industry is made in China. I do know that some parts at least for Intel products are made here, but I don't think final assembly is ever done here on hardly anything. Hell even most US car companies produce their products on foreign soil then ship them to the US. Usually across the Canadian and Mexican borders.

Does Microsoft make their stuff here or is it outsourced overseas as well?

Microsoft doesn't manufacture anything. Everything they do is outsourced as far as manufacturing goes. They may or may not design their mice, keyboards and other peripherals, but they definitely don't build them.

You're out of luck for motherboards. CPUs and Memory are to a certain extent produced here. GlobalFoundries has a plant right here in New York.
Micron has production facilities in the States but I don't recall where.

Somebody said his company ordered its circuit boards from Mexico if they were needed in a few days, from China if they could wait 1-2 weeks.

A lot of Intel CPUs labelled as being made overseas are actually made in the US. It's only the final packaging and maybe testing that's done overseas.

I try to buy local as well, and something that makes me happy is my 50 dollar jeans were made in Canada. They have lasted 2+ years as well. Awesome.

I think Machspeed is the closest to an USA made mobo. They have not produced any new boards for several years and all previous boards have been discontinued. I have had experience with them when I worked at a shop that used their boards for builds but unfortunately all boards used ended up having bad caps. They were very plain, generic, medicore performing boards and costed more than they should have. Now they solely make plain, generic multimedia players.

Supermicro is a designed in USA board but I think that is as close as a USA made board you can get.

Sad how many people in this country like to spout off about patriotism and then buy made-in-china junk from walmart....

That's only because they are cheap enough to CNC machine here.
More like there isn't enough volume to outsource it to China. CNC machining has a pretty high cost per unit, but if the volume isn't there then it's too expensive to start a full production line.

Most people don't know any better. And in the case of computer hardware, you have little choice. Almost all of it is manufactured over seas.

Hell, we hardly manufacture anything anymore. It's not like we as consumers really have a choice to buy American.

That was pretty much my point. Excluding firearms, you really can't buy American for everything. Even then many good firearms you might want in your collection will have to be imported. So called cars which are foreign and assembled here in the US still use a large foreign parts content in their construction.

so I take it all your computer parts are made in the USA? please share where you acquired them from :p

most of my sound system is made in the USA.... McIntosh :D

but unfortunately at the prices people want to pay for things theres no way around making everything overseas

Intel CPUs & Memory are made here in the US. Texas Instruments also makes parts here in the US. Barefoot networks used to make chips in the US, I don't know which products use those chips though.

I do pay extra for US made goods. But now I just try not to buy made in China.

Patriot memory is still made in the US last I heard.

also, Machspeed doesn't make anything, they just re-brand... your Machspeed board may have been packaged in the US, but thats it.

Sorry this will be way off topic.

Glock does have a factory in Smyrna, however most of the Glocks currently being sold in the US were made in Austria, and then assembled in the US, and some frames were made in the US at since 2007. Just this year they were supposed to start producing some complete Glocks in Smyrna, but in limited numbers and models. You will be able to tell the difference as the US made ones will not have the "Made in Austria" anywhere on pistol. At least per my instructor for the Glock Armorer’s course, that info is 9 months old though, and I have yet to see a "US" made Glock.

They may assemble the memory/whatever in the US, but it is unlikely they are fabbing the chips, resistors etc in the US. Those likely come out of China/Asia area.
