Acer Aspire 5551G-4591 Laptop

Ryan and the crew at PC Perspective have just posted a review of the Acer Aspire 5551G-4591 laptop. Although it may not look like much, apparently this unassuming laptop is a pretty decent gaming system. Hit the link for all the details, here's a quote to get you started:

This laptop can trade punches with the $1,199 entry level Alienware M15x, which has a faster Core i3 processor but inferior Nvidia GT 240M graphics solution. If Acer slapped some neon lights on this laptop and called it something cool – perhaps the Acer Apollo or Acer Armageddon – gamers would buy it in droves. As it stands, however, the Acer Aspire 5551G-4591 is an affordable gaming laptop burdened by a generic multimedia laptop exterior.

How is this news?

for less than 1k, I could get a much better gaming laptop. HP Envy 14, m11x2. etc.

It's a good laptop! I just got a similar one, except it has a Core i5 460 and a Geforce GT420m (so it's a little faster on the CPU and a little slower on the GPU) and it really is quite nice!

It's sold out, but I keep checking back and I see it pop up up once in a while for sale so they are getting em in. The best combo would be an i5/ Radeon 5650

Also, this review said some negative things about the Chassis. I found it very nice, especially for the price. The speakers are weak though. Then again it didn't cost $2000+ like my Dell XPS laptop did(which actually came with a tiny "subwoofer" which was very nice) These Acers are good deals, the weakest part of laptops in this price bracket is the GPU, which is either the craptastic Intel graphics or the Decent Radeon 4250, and Acer tackles this really nice. What I really want is Shuttles idea of a laptop platform to take off so I could build my own laptop. Thats what I want to do, but these cheapy gaming laptops will make me happy for the time being.
