Vietnam is very immersive.

I have unlocked everything available, but cannot call in mortar strike. Any ideas/tips?
 
Anyone profile freaking out. It sits at updating stats for about 2 3 minutes and now I am back to rank 1 with no gun unlocks....WTF

Yes I hate it :(. I just got level 24, come back to check my stats..Level 1. When I compare myself to my friends list, all I get for their rank is N/A :eek:. so its just an server messup I think.

Vietnam rocks though, I love it. Seems every bullet you shoot hits someone :). No more blood squirting without hits! But I must say, some guns need to be edited. *cough* PPSH *cough*. That gun snipes better than an M40 across the map :eek:

happens to me every once in a while. i just log out and log back into EA and fixes it. what you see on your main page means nothing the stats are still there just your client wasnt able to download them from the EA master server. when you connect to a game it will be like its suppose to since your stats and the stats the server see's are not client side.

Love the game, when I can play it. CONSTANTLY losing connection to server or EA master server. Same OOOOOLLLLLDDD shit that has been around for YEARS now.

Sigh. Why can't this happen on a workday?
 
Yeah all the servers are going haywire right now. Hopefully tonight it be fixed.

This is basically battlefield BC2 with all the cover removed, I'm not even close to kidding, you spawn in fields most of the time with no cover for about a 30 second sprint, if the enemy gets near your spawn then you basically will be spawned RAPED constantly with no ability to do anything about it. There is sections in all of the maps that are like this, if one team is slightly better they will rape you and rape you, and will continue to do so until the map is over. You'd have to have something wrong with you to enjoy something like that.

Otherwise it's a fairly decent Vietnam game, reminds me of Vietcong, it has really nice looking weapons, vehicles, models, maps, the game feels better than BC2 as far as hit registry, frame rate and such, there is a lot of improvements for sure. But the actual core gameplay is really awful, 90% of that is because of the maps. Feels like a waste of £9.99 to me.

Do what I do. Most of the issue are from playing these maps with 32 people. My favorite server has 10. 5V5 on most of these maps is fun. Maybe try team deathmatch? Only 16 people.
 
28/26/24/20 player servers are better for things like that frosty. but depends on the map. when i played the standard BC2 maps which were some what smaller i'd play on 28 or 26 player servers.. the new maps i always play on 32 player servers. so based on the maps in BC2V try to find servers that fit what you like.

This isn't a real BF game. Something between COD and BF. Maps are more like cod, but with more space and vehicles.

lol no the better way of putting it would be a mix of MoH and BC2 play styles. its ment to be more like the old vietnam game.

it really depends on the maps, the servers and what rules the servers have. if it has a spawn auto kill protection then its not so bad but the spawn auto kill script sucks ass since it doesnt compensate for the idiots on that team shooting out of the spawn.

32 player games on the smaller maps are fun if the teams are remotely equal to each other. most of the 32 player servers i play on have an auto shuffle after each round which keeps the games interesting. 1 game you can mow the other team over then the next round your getting slaughtered then the next its an equal kick ass game that goes back and forth.
 
had my fun with BC2, got my money's worth definately, think im done with it now though.

havnt bothered to pick up vietnam, doesnt look appealing to me.
 
I really hate auto balance servers. Me and my friend were rocking on phu bai, arming and covering the mcoms. We had just armed the last mcom and died defending it. when i respawn I'm like WTF there are guys in our spawn! Nope. Turns out we both got autobalanced.

Nothing like working hard to win only to lose at the last second

After about 10 rounds of rape I gave up, at that point I felt like finding the map file, printing it out in binary, getting that stack of paper and then beating the mapper to death with it.

It's 2010, how do we still have these issues in game? It baffles me...this is not a hard thing to detect and fix in code. Count the number of kills/deaths total across the team and if one is like 100 kills ahead then pause the game, re-arrange the teams and carry on.

I was wondering that too. Auto-balance scripts are pathetic these days as far as the ones built into the games. Of course I would just hope that in BC2 it would auto-balance whole squads and not individuals, and do it at the end of the round. But thats just my idea. The overall issue is that the current implementations are pretty basic and useless, judging from these last coupla posts.

That's never going to happen, and for VERY good reason; It would suck for everyone who wasn't getting their ass kicked. A balanced server takes admins who pay attention and shuffle people around after a match based on the skill and scores they observe. Edit: AFTER a match/round is the important part. You start switching teams up in the middle of a match because one team is doing better and you're just going to empty your server.

As for the guy who hates autobalance; There's no other solution. Players can't be relied upon to keep the teams balanced on their own.
 
I got a question: recently every time I join a server all my guns and attachments are missing. It is like I've basically started out all over again at Rank 1. In game it shows my Rank 32 but all my achievements are missing. My game is up to date and my punkbuster is up to date.

Anyone have any ideas?

if your playing BC2:V before switching to BC2 vanilla, its due to a glitch between the BC2 vanilla and BC2:V master servers i believe. i believe the only way to fix it is when you leave vietnam close the game and reopen it then go into bc2 vanilla and play. the problem is on their end not your end so if its fixed they may not announce it since it would just be a server update for them.

lol 1. thats your problem for sticking around for 10 rounds.. takes what 10 seconds to leave a server to find a new one.
2. the whole mid game balancing is possible but it only moves the last player joined. now mid game shuffling on the other hand completely fails. theres a couple servers that do it and every time it happens expect the server to empty out. its just annoying. i can handle getting my ass kicked for that round its not a big deal to me and the maps arent that long. but when im effing flying in a black hawk shooting at a tank and i get team changed while im shooting at that damn tank pisses me the hell off.

At the very least, place clantags all on the same side. Otherwise, you can get the 'ghosting' effect, which I've seen a time or two (I'd have to check my notes at home to tell which clans did it).

How? Can a script running in procon for a server grab users friends lists? I wasn't aware that it could, and if it can't then there's no way for that to happen.

I agree. Mid game quto switching sucks. And if I read correctly, does BC2 really switch you while you are actually alive? WTF?

I would think that the algorithm to handle this better is not that simple but us as gamers at least know the current implementation sucks. Then again someone else brought up the point that active server admins are dealt with that responsibility. So who knows...
 
Ghosting?

I don't know the name for it, but basically, it's where members of one team help their clanmates on the other team by divulging the locations of teammates.

So, if I were attacking, and my clanmate were on defense, he might hide out somewhere and inform me (using SKYPE or VENT or something) as to where his teammates were hiding to help me get a better score.

Not as big a deal on BC2 as it was in other games.
 
eh that doesnt happen that often. most clans are very competitive within the clan and like going up against each other. i mean hell in ET:QW we would have 20+ people on TS spread out around the teams and we never had that problem. we would just sit there busting each others balls every time we killed some one that was on TS. was fun as hell.

If you've got something that shuffles the teams then it has to do it that way. You can set-up auto-switching to do it while alive or wait until they die but the problem is it only reserves one person to switch so if that person doesn't die for a long time nobody gets switched. If you're moving people you can use "move" to move them when they die or "fmove" to move them right away. My understanding is that you're pretty limited insofar as what information you can get(and therefore use) inside of procon with scripts. Any kind of automated team-balancing is going to be less than perfect.
 
I just got BC2 off Steam, mostly due to the low price and all the fanfare on this forum. I have to say that so far, I don't like this game much.

It's such a slow paced game and maybe I am doing something wrong, but who likes dying and then having to run for five minutes back into battle only to get killed and do it all over?

The weapons aren't much, there isn't a lot of player customization. I just don't get it. I feel like I wish I saved the $20 bucks.
 
lol if you dont get it, then ya you should of saved the 20 bucks. theres a crap load of customization as you level up. as far as running for 5 minutes. join a squad or dont die. then you dont have to run for 5 minutes only to die again.

like spewn said it depends on the script. if its setup to keep teams even aggressively then it will switch while your alive or wait for you to die. most just wait for you to die and switch you. some randomly select people some just select the last person to join. the random selection tends to be the better option but it all depends.
 
If your used to playing Call of Duty, BC2 isn't the game for you.
BC2 is better than COD:BO. I hate CODs fast paced movement that's completely unbelievable, a console shooter.

You're supposed to spawn on your teammates to get back into battle immediately. The game is also fairly fast paced, but I suppose that's a relative term.

And the weapons aren't much? BC2 has a lot of weapons. A lot of different snipers, rifles, SMGs, pistols, equipment, etc.
