Official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Thread.

archeology iss soo boring good thing I can post on here while I fly to sites.

Yeah it's quite grindy in the classical sense, something that a nostalgic vanilla WoW player would want. But it's also a remarkably good way to kill time. I'm currently in the 380s and just starting the Northrend areas. I don't mind a lengthy grind once in a while since a lot of my personal progression goals are limited to dailies.

How do you do the archaelogy? I have the skill, and it showed to go to the graveyard in the wetlands to dig, but when I went there, I couldn't use the skill. Do I need a shovel or something in my inventory to get this to work?

There should be a shovel icon you need to use on the professions tab. No physical inventory item iirc. Use that and make sure you are in the area.

well got to say, really enjoying the expansion very much, not looking forward to dinging 85 though. My frost dk is owning way to much face in bg's right now thanks to the ton of low levels that join, and so far im holding my own against other 84's depending on whats on cool down (having grip on cd seems t be my biggest cause of death lol). But I am interested in seeing just how well he does in the 85 brackets, im really happy with the fact dw frost seems to do well in pvp.

Yeah you need to survey first, using the shovel icon, which puts down a telecope thing that points towards artifacts.

I got my goblin shaman to level 64 last night. The classic redone areas were exciting and refreshing. Getting to the Outlands was like hitting a brick wall. It's slow to level and boring as hell. :(

MikeB on the Legendary podcast made the best comment about Outlands. You go from the boring, red dirt of the Blasted Lands, only to end up in Hellfire with the same boring, red dirt.

I found Outland to be pretty quick and trivial now, you can get to 68 just By clearing Hellfire, Terrokar and Nagrand.

anyone know where i can snag a wrath of the lich king key for 20 bucks lol. gamestop has it on sale for 20 but i need to get a key for my friend to play tonight with me.

Hit 84 yesterday, I'm about 1/4th of the way to 85. Would've been farther along but I got called into work early. Still wearing 4/5 of my T10 gear!

If anyone is on Akama Horde side, I have a guild called Kinetic, and we're looking for other players. Hit me up on there...

Man getting gear seems to be a bitch to hit heroic min level requirement. I'm at 323 now and you need 329. I've been running dungeons but jesus tanking gear barely ever drops, i guess i need to get my Rep up with a couple factions so I can buy some gear from them the 346's to hopefully then hit 329. I also maxed mining yesterday @ 525 yippie.

A lot of the factions have a decent 333 item at Honored. Easy to get there from a handful of quests.

There is also some 333 quest rewards available. You can do a wowhead search for tank stuff that is quest rewards, then you can aim for those. Kinda sucks to do more questing (if you are like me...) but the positive is that you get some money and you get the rep for whatever zone you are questing in (for the most part).

started tanking heroics last night on my DK pretty awesome tanking instead of dpsing

There's now a 10-day Cataclysm trial available. I have an active subscription (had a 60-day card lying around that I got inexpensively) but have been on the fence about picking up the expansion. Guess I get to try it out now. :p

Yeah, it's pretty easy to get "attuned" for heroics if you go through the game via questing. I only had to replace a few blues after hitting 85 to get in. Finishing up Twilight Highlands was all I really needed to do.

I am really loving Goblin. I tryed both classes Worgen and Goblin and I dont find worgen fun or even cool. Goblin Shaman + the sweet new totems :)

I've been getting into more and more random dungeons that were already in progress. Something tells me that the bad players of the population finally caught up and are having trouble completing dungeons.

Im about to hit the highlands, hoping I hit honored with some factions soon, haven't hit it yet, may have skipped over some on accident.

Same here. I normally go with guildies, but the few PUGs I've run recently have all been in progress dungeons. I usually am glad to get one of these since they are generally almost finished and the bad players got kicked lol. Especially if I am doing my heroic daily.

Yeah I feel the same lol. Surprisingly the games I join seem to go somewhat smoothly when I'm there, with maybe 1-2 wipes on bosses. I came into a Grim Batol run once where a group was on the 2nd to final boss. Wiped once, then killed it. As we approached the final boss, one player was showing signs of relief to make it to the end. I asked how long they've been in there and they said about 2.5 hours lol ! I'm glad I spent only about 30 mins helping with the remainder of the dungeon and got the daily out of the way.

Yup, got my self into a small casual guild. Have been doing guild runs, only thing we lack is a good healer so we normally pug one but my god to I love having a guild group lol, things go so quick, and being the only melee dps that ever goes I get a lot of drops, and the tank doesn't steal my dps stuff lol.

On that note my god am I sick of tanks rolling on my dips plate/2 hand weapons and saying "oh well its for my dps spec but its quicker to que as tank" like if u want dps gear go as dps, I don't steal your fucking tank gear.

I just want to say I am having fun with the new expansion my Worgen is now level 24. I am really enjoying the quest, they aren't mundane anymore. Well on the alliance Elf and Worgen side. I am especially impress with the amount of "phasing" being used, will I think its phasing. Once I get to lvl 60 I will probably try out the Goblin and try an Undead since I want to see how things are going on that side.

Yeah, one thing I especially liked was the use of phasing as an aid for more custom questing (and therefore usually better).

I love goblin overall better then Worgen they really did the Goblin/Horde justice. Ive always noticed tho horde has always had al the cool shit & alliance to me is kind of boring.

Eh, it's personal preference I guess. I've been Horde ever since I started playing back in classic WoW. I've tried to level Alliance characters in the past but could never get past level 8 or 9. I just didn't like the scenery, the races, the overall atmosphere and "feel" of being a member of the Alliance. On the contrary, I also know some Alliance players who feel the exact opposite as I do.

I don't think one faction is "cooler" than the other; they both have their fair share of cool and uncool things. I personally cannot stand Blood Elves and I think the Forsaken are a "meh" race, but I love all the other Horde races. As for the Alliance, I think the Draenei are one of the coolest races in the game, as well as Dwarves, but I don't care much for, say, Humans or Night Elves. Keep in mind that "cool" is subjective.

My subscription ends tomorrow, think I'll let it slide away for a while. I have played maybe half an hour total over the weekend.

Quitting is as easy as that!

Im all geared up finally for raids. took me about a week of heroic crawls, got lucky and stuck with a random pug of guildies, healed them for about 4 hours straight.

one question though...

WHERES ALL THE HOLY PALLY BRACERS!? fucking christ took forever to get.

Heroics are very, very tough. It's nice to have a challenge, but some of the fights are just insane.

They can be, but from my perspective (healer) the harder parts are getting to the boss.

as long as everyone knows boss fights it goes fairly well, and im not stressed on mana at all.

CC plays a huge part once again, and if you are a CC class, you should expect to be using it. The biggest complaint i have is going into fights and the tank just rolling in collecting each pull, which is definately healable, but im having to drink after every fight. CC goes SO much smoother, and faster.

another problem is people arnt focus firing. cmon people.

I do get aggravated when people dont know boss encounters, and you are in a heroic. read up before hand, the fights are trivial.

Indeed. I just had a HSFK run earlier today and the tank totally lacked spatial awareness and just holding aggro in general. Secondly, he used TURN EVIL as a form of CC until we called him out on it. Ran ahead of the group and pulled more mobs while the priest healer was drinking (after 2 consecutive pulls). He also chewed out the healer a few times in all caps when he shackled the wrong target. Sure that was a little screwup, but no need to be a dick about it. It sucked, but we got it done.

I like the style of difficulty for heroics. It's like Mega Man X. If you don't know the patterns and can't dance to it, you die. But if you get it, you know you got it because it goes extremely smoothly. It's not brute force difficulty that just requires gear to survive. Hope it stays that way.

i feel the same way, i welcome the difficulty level. I was beginning to lose hope in the difficulty aspect, healing became so trivial during mid BC, all of WOTLK, and now i think its perfect. There are little things i think is pretty much uselss as an ability now, innervate doesnt do shit, and forget about the pally mana regen ability (dont remember name as i never use it now). completely worthless, 10% (15 glyphed but really who cares) mana over 15 seconds, but healing reduced by 50%? haha. yeah right. wastes more mana then it regens, I only use it after a fight now to supplement my drinking. only returns about 1300 mana every like 2-3 seconds. judging a target gives me about 3600 mana (minus the 1000 or so it takes to judge) plus 960 a swing. but i could go on forever about the little things.

Heroics have some raid like element where you have to do something correctly or you are 1 shotted by the boss.

I read alot of different posts about how Hard the game was going to become. I read trade chat where people would completely bash on the "casual raider" saying how the fights were finally going to be so challenging that the "nubs" would not get carried any more. I hated all the talk. I despise elitists who cry when their precious titles get reused or when someone has the same achievements as them. You know, the ones who call the gear dropped from Heroic bosses in WOTLK "welfare gear", I am pretty sure people had to go and actually run the heroics to get the gear and that requires some effort, sure maybe not as much as it used to be. I am a casual with the Kingslayer Title(10 man). Took me months of working my way through ICC with bad pugs and Guilds full of selfish elitist pricks. I was so burnt out on raiding I was looking forward to the new stuff to get away from the "job" of raiding. But of course I was wondering how the "new" hardness of the encounters would play out and I have to say that with a little CC throughout most of the dungeons they have been a breeze up until the boss fights, there have been a few wipes in my randoms, but not the "hardcore" I was expecting. If you know your class these dungeons are not so tough. Only one I have been stuck on is Deadmines, and the Admiral Snarl, that guy is tough to beat as the one pug I was in couldn't get him down.

I love the new content and was excited to level my way through it. A long time friend through the game really came down on me because I was 85 the thursday after release, saying that I was "grinding" through the content. Tuesday Dec 7th I was home at 1:00 am and off until thursday at 4pm so I simply quested and used the Random queue. I did not grind, I was simply lost in the content, I read every quest and fully enjoyed the experience. I just skipped sleep for a couple of days:D.

overall I find the "new" old world refreshing and fun, the goblin and worgen races were well done, the new content is exciting yet easy to navigate. the new zones are such a sight to see and easy enough with flying. Questing is streamlined and for people like me that is a good thing. I am not sure if I will raid again, as I am enjoying just playing again.

^^ well put post.

also, just an fyi, but 99% of the guys in trade and what not complaining about welfare epics/easy content/dumbing it down/etc. etc. etc. are all trash players. at least from what ive seen, almost all of them blow/havnt played anything before wrath, and their atitudes usually mean they are guildless/guild hoppers because their elitest mentality they carry around with nobody else wants to hear. they are a loud minority.
