I'm on the fence but Dance Central may tempt me to get one. I'm such a huge HMX fan.

DC is pretty much the best dance game thats ever been made, I cannot think of anything thats nearly as close to the real thing nor as fun as this game is. If you're a genre fan, once you try the game you're going to explode.

Bring diapers.

I know the whole thing about kinect is no controller gaming, but I think they need to design a rifle controller with a joystick on side so they can make fps games. I would love to play an FPS on the kinect but dont see it working out very well without some kind of physical input at least for 360 degree movement.

It's good and your right probably the best in the genre but anyone who gets that excited over a dancing game needs help ;)

probably right, but thankfully I'm not into the genre that much. I own DC and play it sometimes with my wife or when people come by. Its the best dance game I've played and better when drunk. Perhaps thats why I warned to bring diapers lol

played dance central last night with my wife. Yeah, i felt like a moron dancing to Lady Gaga but it was fun. And a good workout.

Just don't tell anybody that I did it.

I've have the Kinect for less than a week came with Sports & Adventures like them both. Downloaded Demo of Dance Central will get this one too. Gives me a good work out!

I also think they should stay open minded on the no controller thing.
If a great first person shooter or any other game can be made for the kinect but also needs a controller to make the game really good/great then it should be made that way and print KINECT + CONTROLLER right on the box proudly.

I just hope they are not taking a (We must never mix Kinect with controller) stance on this, or (if we use a controller we make Kinect look flawed) view point.
Kinect looks great to me and for some games it could be even greater with a controller added.
Hope that's how Microsoft see's it also.
Lets mix and match controllers for the good of the games.

This 110%

Just started playing NFS Hot Pursuit today and was just thing how cool it would be to say 'spikes' or 'helicopter' or make a gesture to request them. Add stuff into main stream games like this and it'd be awesome.

MS has been open from the first Natal reveal that hybrid controller and Kinect games are not only possible but in development. You have to understand from a business standpoint, their marketing strategy right now.

Right now their focus is shaking up the consumer market, trying to portray an image of 'new' 'hip' etc.. These days consumers gobble this shit up and will buy the next new thing. Phones, Wii, Tablets etc.. Kinect sales are already through the roof and thats partly due to the marketing brand being painted.

"You are the controller" Its a way of distancing itself from both the Wii and Move and appealing to casuals at the same time. Here is something nobody has tried, go buy it .. more or less. This type of blitzkrieg of brand marketing washes over consumers and get the word out that the product is something to be desired.

Once Kinect is out there awhile you'll start to see hybrid games coming out, and its a reason WHY you haven't see any at launch. Its marketing 101 and MS knows exactly what they're doing.

By this time next year you'll have what you're looking for.

I'm really looking forward to the Kinect + controller games. I think it would be the coolest thing ever to be in the middle of a conversation in Mass Effect and then give the other person the bird using Kinect, which starts a big fight.

Just got Kinect today (thanks ma- and pa-in-law!!!) for an early Xmas present. Wife and I love it. We played around with Kinect Adventures and even at 5 months pregnant, my wife had a blast. She loves the Wii but I think this will be the nail in the Wii's coffin. We're in a 1 BR apartment right now with very limited room, but once we buy a house this thing will be a riot.

2 points: The Kinect cable is 9' long. Longer if you have an original style 360 since it requires the additional, split cable power/USB adapter (included with the Kinect). Second, I'd advise against putting the sensor on top of a speaker, as it can reportedly interfere with the Kinect's microphone. I also would not mount it on top of a subwoofer; I think the vibration would make it very hard for the camera to keep track of the player.

As a side note, it's almost creepy how the damn thing can differentiate between Ashley and I LOL. When it prompts us to stand up and be recognized, I get a kick out of it every time. It's really something!

Pics of my setup (excuse the mess):

The sensor is mounted on the middle shelf out of the 3 shelves above the TV. The sensor is about 6' up. We've only got about 6 feet from the couch to the front edge of the TV stand so it's tight as hell for now. In fact, when we did the Kinect ID for each of us, when it had us stand on the "back" squares of the grid, we had to stand on the couch and strike a pose LOL. But it worked fine. Wife had to restart her ID one time but overall, very painless.

DSC01638.jpg

View when seated on the couch. The sensor picks up hand gestures fine for navigating while sitting down. You can see the sensor tilted all the way down to pick me up on the couch.

As for gaming, the only times I've had trouble while playing are when I either get too close to the TV and the sensor loses track (basically I'm "underneath" the sensors line of sight) or if I go too far to the left the damn xmas tree obscures part of my left arm or leg LOL. It's no biggie, we both knew our small front room would cause some issues with it but it's so much fun we don't really care too much. BTW, if the sensor loses you for more than a second or two, the game pauses until the sensor has a clean image of you again, then you can pick up right where you left off. Overall, a great deal of thought went into this thing

Quick vid of hand navigation in my Zune video library. I was seated and a bit off to the left of center so I could turn the camera on/off (I forgot to center myself, but it still works).

I also showed the voice command feature. My wife is asleep on the other side of the wall behind the TV so my voice was much much lower than my normal "inside voice". Considering the sensor is about 8' laterally and a good 3' vertically from my head at that time, I'd say the mic does a fantastic job! I'm looking forward to online gaming with no headset, as I set the sensor up to be my mic in game.

^ Nice.

If you continue to have issues its likely because the sensor is too high. I believe MS doesn't recommend keeping it above 6 feet off the ground. You could test having it lower and see if that helps.

It's just a touch below 6 feet right now. Our only real issue for the next 7 months is lack of room LOL

Oh, well they're you're good to go it seems, I suppose that pic is just a bit deceiving is all.

I'm surprised you are surprised. This is the [H], not the !

Seriously though I don't think many people on this forum are terribly interested in Kinect.

if youre not interested you havent played it. im a pc gamer and have always hated consoles because they have made gaming virtually retarded for the most part, but kinect brings a new element to the table. the games at this point are simple enough but the fun-factor is very high.

they make a hanger u can mount the kinect on to sit right on top of your tv. itll make it easier to play as u wont have to stand back as far.

My wife gets a kick out of laughing at me. :(:D

rofl my kids both laughed at me when i ws showing them how it worked...but they changed their tune when they first tried it. you might look like a dork playing the games sometimes but its one helluva lot of fun.

So true.

We hosted a Christmas party at our place last night and it wasn't long before guests were asking to see Kinect in action. Fired up some DC and did the silliest song I could find, just to get some reactions. Every single person laughed at me, followed by every girl wanting to play, followed by the guys glaring with this gleem in their eyes. I think for many, they experienced their woman playing and accepting video games for the first time.

I dunno bout you but kinect is the greatest thing on my living room. It makes it super fun with friends and guests its a no brainer. Only losers with no friends will hate this thing imo.

Yeah, but funds are tight right now so we're gonna deal with it being up high for a bit longer.

My wife got me one over the week-end. We all complained about being sore yesterday just from playing the sports games. The vidoes after the games are over are hilarious. So far bowling is my favorite.

Still on the fence, though I'm tempted...

(/random: Kinect just made an appearance on Telemundo's morning show, Levántate. Having two hot women in tight dresses shimmying along with Dance Central counts as a plug, right?)

Just snagged one myself.
I was surprised how much fun it was playing Kinect Adventures.
Very good workout!

It's a shame the library is so limited too.

I tried the demo of Kinect Sports. Seems fun
Sonic Free Riders sucked.

My wife only plays her PC for RPGs, and some casual WoW. She finally is interested in the 360 now that shes seen me playing Kinect with our almost 3 yr old girl. So i see that as a plus. But still tells me its only ready for party time, and not prime time as far as hardcore gaming goes. But hey, anytime i can get an excuse to play any video game with my kid, its a positive.

kinect adventures kinda sucks, but i kinda expected that as it was free with the system. definetly get kinect sports and dance central. those seem to be the 2 best kinect games so far.

kinect isnt made for "hardcore" gamers. and the whole point of kinect is to get ur ass off the chair and play fun games. ive always hated consoles...im a pc gamer......but kinect brings something new to the table. cheesy little games that anyone can play become hilarious and extremely fun to play. i did what i swore id never do.. i just bought an xbox 360 kinect last week its that good.
and after sweating ur nuts off and finding muscles you didnt know u had after an hour of playing kinect i keep finding it harder and harder not to call this "hardcore" gaming.

thanks captain obvious.

Well "santa" came to our house today with a present all nine and wrapped and handed it to my kid. Opened it up and there was a kinect inside. sure wish I was there to see this :D

hooked it up and demo'd it for my wife and parents, first thing my mom said is we should go buy this! it looks like so much fun, even got her up off the couch helping me plug up some leaks in kinect adventures lol.

Is it me or is kinectshare a dead end site? I want to get my xmas gaming pics.

Yeah, my girlfriend and I just got Kinect, and the Kinectshare site doesn't seem to be working...it just has links to the games. Did it work before and it's not now? Or did it never work? I'd like to see some of the videos... She has mooned and flashed in Dance Central and I want evidence!

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out. You have to manually upload one at a time.

tbh I thought this would flop big time, everyone I talk to says its a blast and sales seem to be going really well. I think the community in general was really negative about the device up until its release (showing videos where the kinect was having a hell of a time tracking human movements). I only started to hear good things once it was out...now all I hear is good things.

I finally got my own dance central yesterday. Dont have to ask my friend to bring his copy over whenever we have a family get-together.
