Supporters of the WikiLeaks targeted attacks are downloading the Botnet toolkit in order to facilitate DDoS attacks on sites deemed unfriendly to WikiLeaks. So far, 50K downloads have been completed as part of Operation Payback.

"The main purpose of the tool, allegedly, is to conduct stress tests of the Web applications, so that the developers can see how a Web application behaves under a heavier load," said Svajcer.

How fucking stupid are these fuckers? The only thing this bullshit is going to do is give support to the people demanding the heads of everyone involved in WikiLeaks. For fucks sake these dip shits need to think before acting.

These people downloading these botnet toolkits are just going to give the government more of a reason to censor or even completely shut off the web. If you think they can't you are fooling yourself. The governments of the world absolutely have the ability to completely shut the Internet down. Many of the world most powerful people HATE the Internet so this would play right into their hands.

This is starting to look less like people defending their rights, and more like a cult.

Yeah, these guys are gonna screw up the web forever. If ever Gov't needed an excuse to take control of the web......

That's how oppression starts.

Wikileaks and it's proponents are certainly not the good guys here, regardless how much they might think they are, but neither are the various governments.
But the classic government response to terrorism of any kind has been to increase oppression.

But who ends up oppressed. Idiot script kiddies with the intellectual maturity of 12 year old kids, or the rest of us?

Maybe this is pure wishful thinking here, but I don't think they are organized enough to do much more then be obnoxious. I think they can do crap like take down the front page of something like Visa or PayPay again, but not much else, even with more of them downloading rootkits.

I'm hoping this is the case, although I'm also trying to not be paranoid and think their continual attacks will mean tougher control of the Internet by the government, the last thing I want is the Internet half censored just because a bunch of teenyboppers in their mom's basement who giggle at memes from /b/ on 4chan decided to try to pull down whitehouse.org for the lulz and to "fight the system".

Or to put it another way, we don't need the rebels without a clue doing real damage for once.

Can't edit, so I'll say "real damage" as in pull down a webpage that doesn't do long term damage and can be restored quickly, but that pisses off the wrong people. Or at least pisses off the wrong people directly.

They already hit the FBI and rumor is that Amazon.com is next. Hopefully they start arresting people and they get the message to stop what they are doing.

I've been lurking on /b/ on 4chan a tiny bit, not enough to say I really know what it's like day to day on that site, but based on posts from the day they yanked down Visa, Mastercard & Paypal, they tried for amazon.com but couldn't get enough people rallied, and I didn't see a mention of trying for the FBI's homepage. Having said that, maybe not all the info or whatever is being organized via /b/ or 4chan in general now, it has mostly gone back to the complete trainwreck of posts about..erm...well you'd just have to see the site, I'll leave it at that.

Mhm. The moment these idiots attack a major website its going to get bad.

They tried for Amazon and Paypal and failed miserably. Their own ineptitude and over confidence in their crappy DDoS programs are their own worst enemy.

The old school view of DDoS attacks is that they are never justified, they never solve any problem or improve any situation, and only end up being an inconvenient, expensive mess for people who had nothing to do with the intended target.

It's so moronic that I can't help but assume that this is a cover for something else. Someone is up to something, and they're distracting you with all the fireworks and rioting.

I only have issue with the media portraying them are something more then delinquents with a program that does nothing more then flood a website with requests in hope of crashing it.

Don't worry, they keep epic failing in front of the MSM like they did this week when going after anything more significant than a second rate website like the Church of Scientology and they will be laughed right back into their parents basements.

And what do you think would happen to those powerful people should they decide to killswitch the net?

I think tar-and-feather would be the most mild response.

What ever they do, their still script kiddies. Can't one learn how to do it properly and take down a website the old way?

Its called a protest and there's gonna be bigger ones IRL if this situation goes any further. assange will likely get murdered in prison which is mortifying but perhaps he's just the martyr needed to spark real revolution against governments.

it's fucking depressing that the most worthwhile action right now is pissy ddos attacks. arresting assange is a great injustice and people are outraged. most people can kinda see the significance of this but like all the world's problems don't take any real action.

i don't know why you seem to support an oppressive and secretive government reminds me of people cheering for stalin.

Bad thing now is you don't even have to posess mad skilz to DDoS a site any longer....just download a kit and follow the bouncing ball.:(

It's only just a protest if damages are not incurred, or a criminal act is not committed. A dos attack is a criminal act. After you commit the criminal act, the only people that listen to you anymore are your mom, your lawyer, and the choir you have been preaching to. Everybody else gets caught up in your crime and whatever message you may have had is lost in the static.

And just what would he be a martyr for? and to who? A martyr for his own wallet, to a pack of script kiddies, and a handful of conspiracy theorists and anti government types?
He's no Ghandi, or Martin Luther King, he is not even a William Marcus, he is some guy that commits borderline, and not so borderline, criminal acts to get his hands on secret documents that he "very selectively" releases to the benefit of his own wallet. He might have an agenda past his wallet, but damned if I can see it passed general anarchy. His death would cause a very small, very short term ruckus and then he would just be forgotten. A revolution over that guy, you gotta be kidding.

Considering that he has pissed of everybody from China and North Korea to the US and a shit ton of people in between, him dieing in prison is a possibility thoguh. Who would you blame with so many suspects I wonder?

It's been that way for quite awhile. People still think the internet is new.

who's to say alot of these attacks aren't agent provocateurs. create a crisis so that the govt/corporations can step in with a "solution" to save us all from these net-terrorists.

Bravo, well said!

I don't understand why you all defend the government so adamantly. it's more corrupt than the illegal narcotics trade. they've decimated everyone's right to privacy when what we do doesn't concern the government, so why should the government have this right to privacy when it concerns everyone? especially when it relates to war crimes and other crimes. yay oppression! national security right? protecting what again? freedom you say? what freedom?

I guess I'll be the first to point out that the use of a modified version of LOIC to attack opponents of wikileaks is two week old news...

calling for his assination indeed, isnt that an act of terrorism in itself?

you cant make the slightest bomb joke at the airport but you can say crap like that in the world stage

you people are fucked, its not trying to bring down countrys, the values they uphold, or kill its citizens its shedding the light on the corruption that has infested the system, are you all too stupid to see the individual accountablitly it will bring?

LMAO, I really really, hope you arent insinuating these pale geeky fucks arent gonna try and do any real sort of physical protest. Cause guess what script kiddy? When you step out of cyberspace into the real world, you get real bruises. Real tear gas. Real unlethal but awful god damned painful shotgun ammunition. Real batons.

And imagine aside from all the other shit they would have to go thru in prison how many inmates have family that are soldiers. And while Wikileaks has every right to publish whatever they want, as soon as you release any shit that in any way shape or form may have put any inmates family members in jeopardy, well, Id hate to be locked into a cell at night with a guy that thought I was partially responsible for cousin Reggie getting blown to 3 million pieces by a ambush.

Naw man, best thing they can do now is silently slink off and hope it gets forgotten about,

They tried for Amazon and Paypal and failed miserably. Their own ineptitude and over confidence in their crappy DDoS programs are their own worst enemy.

They actually got Paypal last week supposedly.... and failed at Amazon.com last Friday. BUT TODAY, the finally got Amazon (not .com, but amazon.fr, .eu, and all the Amazon Europe sites for about 30 minutes today (see here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11980125 )

But yeah... they have no true skills, just a massive get together of DDosing spammers. Anyone can do what they do..... the brains and knowledge here of [H] can make a much bigger/powerful botnet without a doubt. But we aren't giant tools for Wikileaks like the dumbass kids over at 4chan who think they are doing something good for "the people" -- they are just being tools for this guys site (which was made for Assange's false ego since he spreads half-truths and bogus "leaks" half the time trying to get attention)

I saw the entire video before wikileaks got big (the wikileaks helicopter clip).... since then I have lost all respect for their false reportings. It was setup to make the governments look bad me thinks.... the guy wants attention cause he obviously lacked it as a youth.

/end wikileaks

Because they would be more competent. B tards.....not so much.

Those weren't downed by Anon though. And really..... downing a .fr is an achievement? A boy scout troop could take down all of the .fr's one boring weekend.

Sounds like a free country to me. no i'm not script kid i don't even visit 4chan. animal rights is more my game but this is an important event for this generation. also its not pale geeky ++++s that support Wikileaks. i'm not pale though am admittedly a bit geeky. but i don't shy from physical labour, i can lift heavy things! nice comment from a tech forum tho, feeding stereotypes much? you think its just the geeks that hate government corruption? wow you must live an isolated life.

@ Gaspah, yeah, I had a stereotype, I shouldnt but meh,.
If it makes you feel better we can pick at random 100 Hardforumers, and let them pitfight any combination of 100 SWAT team officers/and/or inmates.

Just sayin taking this crap into RL may not be the smartest thing to do.

Revolution isn't easy but its gonna be a real hard life for people soon if we continue to remain complacent. corporations and governments are raping the planet for short term monetary gains with no regard for the future. i'd much rather lose my life fighting this battle now than lose it in a skirmish for drinking water in 20 years time. we must stop these forces being able to do whatever they like instead of what's best for everyone and everything on the planet. this is our planet not jointly owned by maccas, coke and wallmart.

Well said BUT theres a right way to get things changed and a wrong.

Personally I realize our ( America) government is corrupt as hell. And at the same time I realize the need for the public to know SOME of this bullshit.

BUT when a site such as Wikileaks just publishes all this information (regardless of the source ) and it puts our soldiers ( IE my neighbor, my brother, my friend) lifes at risk, then I have issue.

And as much as your willing to die now for your beliefs; if someone I held dear got hurt or died because something of this nature, I would be willing to slice throats left and right. And while YOU may be willing to die for it, Ill bet you anything these script kiddies running as self made bots for Anon arent.

See thats the thing Im trying to say. Long as they keep it in cyberspace, theyll probably be ok or have limited repercussion. But the first second they throw a molotov cocktail at a RL persons auto theres gonna be real consequences.
