NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 Video Card Review - NVIDIA is launching its new GeForce GTX 570 which is poised to take the mainstream performance crown. We will compare it to GeForce GTX 470, Radeon HD 6870, GeForce GTX 480, and GeForce GTX 580. Is the GTX 570 the next great GPU value?

Fan Noise

Not much to say here, the vapor chamber is very successful in helping reduce fan noise. Similar to the GeForce GTX 580, the GTX 570 is just as silent. We did not notice any ramping up in fan noise or other loud anomalies while the video card was at full load.

Ok, now I really want one. Great review and thanks for just saying what you think about the card instead of all the sissy "We preserve Our final judgement until 69XX comes out".

Great review as usual. I've been impressed with NVIDIA the last few months for manning up with decent cards and what seem to be great coolers. They've certainly set the stage, now I can't wait to see what AMD brings to the table.

Welp, i'm in for a couple. I've been looking for cards in this price range to impress. Just decided to come over here for the review, and it's what i'm looking for.

Great review.

Great review, thanks. Glad I held off on ordering a pair of GTX570s.

Just ordered two of these on EVGA.com for $349 each.

Got a pair of backplates as well last night on their site! (580 backplates but they will fit)....

Finally time to retire my pair of GTX285s w/backplates. Ebay here I come.

Nice review Kyle.

I personally have found no real-world difference between the two (GTX 580 and 570) in gameplay, but that's because I'm using 1920x1080 resolution. It's highly likely that if I used 2560x1440, or did some 3D Vision action @ 1920x1080, I'd start to feel the gap between the two.

... But for me, as I shuffled between one 580 and two 570s over the last week, they felt pretty much indistinguishable from each other, even in terms of temperature, noise and heat.

I found that a modest overclock gets you up to ~98-103% of GTX 580 performance, which was a nice bonus, as the reference performance overall was around 84-88%.

I'm going to look your findings over in more detail as the day goes on, Kyle. Again, great job.

Nice review. I wonder if we will see the price of these rise from MSRP like we did with the 5850 and 5870. Not really any other cards in the $350 niche and it is replacing the gtx 480. It surprised me they didn't start at 400 and come down once the new ATI cards are released.

Bravo! Good read.

Now Nvidia just needs to come out with a single gpu solution for surround and I'll buy one. Looks like I'll just have to wait for AMD!

Nice review. Thanks.
Slightly disappointed there were no Crossfire HD6850 results but I'm guessing you are saving those for the 6970/6950 review. Can't wait til next week for AMD's launch.

I just bought myself a 1920x1200 monitor for christmas, the GTX570 might be a nice upgrade for me since I would like to go back to a single GPU from my current GTX260 SLI setup.
I'm waiting until January though, AMD should have the 6900 series out and even if they don't beat the 500 series in performance, prices on Nvidia cards might be a little lower by then. Fun time to be looking for a GPU upgrade right now!

Very impressed. The 570 gives you about 99% of the performance of a 480, while being cheaper, less power hungry, runs cooler and its quieter.

Dear Santa...

Not impressed. Cayman will blow the 580/70 out of the water. My 6870 with overclock can just about equal this card. Meh.

nice to see 480 performance at a lower price with lower power/heat output. however i do get an overall meh feeling from this card.

It will be interesting to see if we have another award winning GPU next week that could make us rethink our comments today, but we cannot comment on what we have not gamed with.

Is it a literal statement? If so, it doesn't seem like the GTX 500 series is going to have any competition this holiday season...

Yes, that is a literal statement. At the time of publishing that, we had not used any of AMD's next generation GPUs that have not been announced. Not sure the "if so" part of your statement makes sense to me though.

What about when you OC the 570/580? Why bring up OC speeds when everything is being tested at default speeds. When the time comes to look @ OC speeds then go ahead and bring up this subject.

If you guys haven't even gotten your hands on the testing samples yet, I can't imagine the 6900 series being available to consumers by Christmas, or even the end of the year.

Some users in other forums already have their hands on 6970's. Perhaps reviewing samples will go out this week.

Any reason there wasn't an OC section of this review or was I just blind or something?

Very impressive indeed. I'm far more impressed with this than the 580. If a 2GB version comes out, I may look to replace my 460 SLI setup with 570's in SLI. I need the extra RAM for higher AA settings. I currently run Battlefield BC2 at 5040x1050 with 16X AA, but I'd like to use the 16QX I was using when I was on a single display (and yes, I can see the difference).

So HD 6870 is within 15-20% of the performance of GTX 570 and 25-30% of GTX 580.

Since HD 6970 will be 75% more powerful than HD 6870 - isn't anyone else scared of the lack of competition if AMD wins hands down?

lol, 6970 will not be 75% more powerful

Great review! I am excited to see the overclocking capabilities, as well as SLI performance in a future review.

And I (along with everyone else) anxiously await AMD to respond with their high end offering so I can finally make an informed decision about this generation of video cards.

I predict that the consumers (with lots of choices and options this holiday season) will be the winners of this years AMD/Nivida battle.

Because the HD6870 is a MID-RANGE card. The GTX570 is Nvidias second fastest card, or a high end card. So, for $100 less i can get almost the same performance from my mid-range card compared to Nvidias high-end card. Bang for Buck, performance/dollar, etc.And besides, this is pretty much another rebrand of the 480. But whatever floats your boat go for it.;)

6990 maybe but I do not think you will find a single gpu card being that much faster.

Out of interest, what was the room tempreture when those idle/load measurements were taken?

The 470 units in this system normally idle at 38-40 (9c less). But my room is probably cooler, chip difference etc. The load tempretures are pretty much the same however.

I'm glad to see the lower tempretures, as it means I can hopefully upclock the CPU when needed.

Excellent review. I absolutely love the AP2AP stuff on page 8. There should definitely be more of that in the future. Once you guys have determined the maximum applies to apples value throw another card or 2 in the review mix only in apples to apples. It'll be less time as you don't have to fiddle around to see if it's playable with this or that setting. It also gives good perspective on where the cards fall. Overclocking performance on a GPU launch is essential that's the only thing I missed from this review. It's one of my biggest questions when a card launches. "How is this thing overclocking at this point?" Currently 2 reviews in and still out of the loop in regards to that.

A- on the review again love the AP2AP stuff! :D

Two words joined into one marketing term. Crossfire.

Crossfire is no where near 75% more power with 2 identical cards. You'll be lucky to see 50%. Plus it probably will be like earlier implimentations, and use downclocked chips. Then again, still, in 2010 many games still wont use the second core, or crossfire/sli. At all.

Still the best senario is that it beats 2x 580 sli and means that they go really really low in prince. I know thats what i'm hoping for :D

The 6970 is not a crossfire card and yes, you can get 100% scaling with crossfire games permitting, have done for years. True most games won't but it is possible.
