I managed to chip the side of my P4 file/Christmas Music server with a screwdriver (/homer D'oh) , so now I need a replacement.

Any of you folks got a socket 478 northwood 3.06 GHz 533 MHz 512 KB hanging around the lab? Doesn't have to have the HSF unless you don't want it either.

I know its a dinosaur, and I know I can upgrade to something way better, but exuberant Christmas shopping has run the computer budget a vast defecit :)

Thanks friends.

EDIT- in case you're wondering, the mobo is an intel d845pebt2 that has been pretty much up and running since early 2003 or so.

I ahve a few 478's will look when I get a chance and let you know.

Thank you, crossing fingers :)

I have a 2.8 if u can use it

really hoping for the 3.06 for the hyperthreading. but i'll keep it in mind because it would be better than nothing. :)

All S478 Northwood Cs had hyperthreading, although they ran at FSB800 not 533. You could probably find one of those fairly easily; we've got a 2.6C, but you can't have it.

There was only one Northwood at 533 with HT and that was the 3.06. Since this was the top chip compatible with the 845PE chipset it's what makes it so rare.

last chance bump for my [H]ers before i browse other solutions.
