Hey all,

I've got an i7 930 and im looking to overclock the little bugger,

just looking some cooler recomendations,

currently looking at the following:

Fenrir evo
Xigmatek thors hammer
cooler master hyper 212

and if its worth the it cooler master h50

so whats the general concencious?

The CM Hyper 212 is damn good for the money and the Corsair H50 is probably one of the best, however expect problems with the pump failing.
I personally have been suggesting the CM V6GT, which performs VERY well, better than the V8 in msot reviews in fact. It also comes with 2 brilliant pwm fans which makes it damn good value for money.

Personally I would not go for any of those other than the H50. For relative low cost I'd pick a Cogage True Spirit, High end Air what I run a TRUE 120 or a Venomous X. If I were going with Corsair I'd go with the H70.

Value: 212, true spirit
High Air: Ven-X, Silver Arrow, Noctua
Biginner h2o: H70

Be aware that, with stock fans, the H70 is significantly noiser than the other options listed.

I would chose either the CM Hyper 212+ or the H70 depending on my budget.

Thermalright TRUE 120 keeping my i7 920 core temps between 40-44. Running at 3.4Ghz.

I like the Prolimatech Megahalems since it has the best mounting system in the business and it's performance is up there with the best air coolers.

ROFL

how is it even a beginner? you just bolt it on and plug it in.

x1000 for the H70 though, great sealed water cooling for cheap.

I run the H50 and have had amazing results.

Don't get your panties in a bunch.
It's a simple, easy and relatively safe way to get into h2o. Not a cheap way to cool components, even kits aren't cheap. I never said it wasn't good, it is. Otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it.

Another vote for the Prolimatech Megahalems. It keeps my i7 930 under 60c at all times at 4.2Ghz.

must have taken me wrong, im not mad... I was laughing because I just almost dont even it is more then a air cooled system

And they are great... I own one and will be buying another one soon :D

H70 FTW

Yeah, it's really more of a tower cooler that uses hoses instead of heatpipes. Pretty nifty idea actually.

It is a good cooler and is very useful in space constrained environments. It's roughly on par with high end air, right?

no I would consider it to be much better cooler than most high end coolers if not all, but I don't pay very close attention to those huge coolers because I hate bolting them to my motherboard, freakin things are huge and completely a waste of space, I wouldn't trade one for my H50 even if it was a better performing cooler.

If you have a large case, then high-end air coolers can be slightly better than the H50:

At least when gaming where the CPU is loaded. The H70 is better than all the air coolers I believe but it's more than double the price.

Megahalems Rev.B can be had for about $50 online now.

I prefer the CM Hyper 212+. Great price, good performance, and not a PITA to install.

I went with a dual fan CM one for my i7-875k.

Price is right, the noise and airflow are fantastic, ratings are great, even has a manufacturer rebate to boot. If you aren't trying to go ALL OUT, it seems like a good middle of the road general purpose cooler that will allow a semi-aggressive overclock, stay quiet and prolong the life of the chip/board.
*Note* This is by no means small.

If you have money to burn I recommend the zalman reserator V2. Silently cools my i7-975 @4142MHz and is very easy to install/run.

I've been running a Thermaltake Frio on my i7-920 at 3.8ghz for several months now with zero problems.

I love my H50 that is cooling my i7 920, doesn't make to much noise and it cools well during hot summer days.

Custom watercooling. Hands down the best cooling investment for overclocking. And, you invest once and just buy the mounting brackets for when you switch to a new/different socket. My main rig has always been WC'd for about a decade now and I can't see ever going back to air. Quiet, cool, and cheap in the long run. Best bet hands down.

Ive used both the Prolimatech Megahalems and am currently using a Corsair H50 on an overclocked i7 920, and they're both great coolers that i would recommend for the i7.

I found the Megahalem for about $55 after coupon on superbiiz.

Coupon code: SNOWFLAKE10

I dont think the Megahalems comes with fans which makes it much less appealing if you don't already have a spare. Good for people who were looking to upgrade the fan anyway.

I haven't been following coolers for the last year or so but I am using the Scythe Mugen 2 which is a great cooler at $39 from newegg. It was almost on par with the TRUE when i got it, obviously reviews will vary.

The down side to this is I was looking to put another fan on for a push pull but the clips are usually like 6 to 10 bucks at some places. Only comes with 1 fan and 1 clip.
