Post Your Connection Speed

here ya go. speedtest.net really loves my connection

got verzion 35/35 but I will get download speeds at 6Mb/s typically.

after running the speed test like 8 times at same server it started to return a stead result of

WOW!!! that's some nice bandwidth! may I ask what kind of router you're using?
Also 6Mb/s (translates to six Megabit). Judging from your results I'm guessing you mean 6MB/s (translates to MegaByte)?

here's my humble bandwidth from comcast:

umm I am using a linksys wrt610n, has a lot concurrent connections. I like it.

but as of right now, I am still using the verzion router for dhcp and what not, so I cant really say it is the linksys doing me good.

if I remember when I update to a hardware firewall/router I will post again about if it made a change.

and ya I ment MB/s hehe

I hate living in a rural area some times, this 6mb DSL is the fastest we get (though there is a possibility they might be able to do 12Mb DSL (only because of the fact that I am close to the DSLAM that the local Highschool has it's buried fiber optic lines that my ISP piggybacks off of before going over the phone lines, it's a shame the school won't allow anyone else use the fiber)

And SpeedTest is screwing up my location, I'm only about 40 miles from State College

Anybody from Long Island that his similar problems with Cablevision?

We have all three services (phone/web/TV), they just replaced all the wires from the pole to my house, replaced all the wires from my house to the modem, replaced the modem when we got their phone service (6 months ago), I bought a WRT54GL + Cat6 cables 9 months ago, and I'm on a 12 month old high-end machine.

I've been running speedtests every 10 minutes tonight and haven't broken 1.5 Down. Service is 15/2. Apparently they guarantee 2 Down, and NEVER cap Down, only Up.

Have you tried hooking your machine directly to the modem and then speedtesting? I wonder if maybe there is something wrong with the router?

My guess is the ISP is using some kind of caching device like Riverbed.

Crossed my mind but was too busy. Will try it tonight. Odd thing is that I still get 1MB/s + every once and awhile on torrents.

Most likely my block is just overcrowded.

That happens alot. I do the same. :p

Like right now my home connection sucks. It's supposed to be 12/1.5

I should be getting 10mbps up...but due to low power levels in my area the signal is such shit that I'm lucky to be hitting that. Down is nice but I upgraded for the upload :(

Looks like the kind of speeds I currently get with my moto droid:

Waiting for fios to show up to install meh 25/25...

Damn sometimes I wish I lived in the states. The internet here sucks.

The service is 5mbps but they all share out the same pipe so it's rare you actually get the advertised speed. Really I'd be happy if the upload was higher. It's the upload that really limits it's use. The max I can get is 512k but that's rare to actually hit.

Nah, I work at a research lab at a hospital - uninet is the Scandinavian university and research backbone. We've got gbit locally, and I suspect the fibre over to the university of Oslo (where the Norwegian internet exchange is hosted) is at least gbit as well.

Damn, I've gotten better speeds on my cellphone.

Funny since we just got a new cell network here, not G4 but a variant of that. They just call it G3.5. The speed is faster then any land internet available.

The only thing is, cell network data is WAY more expensive because you pay per MB, otherwise I'd just setup a rogers stick machine to do ICS and use that as the internet. :p They put up a bunch of towers and such and overall made huge expansions. I think even iphones work here now. Before we had lot of doctors showing up and finding out all their mac toys did not work here.

Ha, yes - that tends to be the downfall of cellphone-internet. I get 6GB/month for $21 at the moment, though it'll get slightly more expensive when the first 6 months are over. From what I've heard, that's fairly generous. :)
