Offical Call of Duty Black Ops Thread

x2 SP runs smooth as butter on my somewhat outdated rig. The MP is where it fell off.

Try these settings for effect...

Once in game open the console by hitting the Tilde key (~) - type "com_maxfps 1000" - hit Tab key - hit Enter key - close (~)

You wouldn't be the first person to have frozen stats, but make sure you're not doing something boneheaded like trying to complete the challenges without the Ninja perk equipped. I thought I got robbed while completing the Hardline Pro challenges, but realized I played a couple of rounds using a custom class without Hardline equipped :D. I've personally had no problems completing Ninja Pro both times I've tried.

lol, the kit that I was using that had the suppressor attachment, I did'nt have ninja perk enabled. Thats why I was stuck at 91 suppressed kills I guess.

So what's the consensus? Is it a good FPS for PC?
I'm looking to play a new FPS.

Your going to get a lot of different answers. it's a buggy game for a lot of folks right now. and from what I hear it could be upwards to a month before a patch comes out.

I definitely think it's worth picking up. Only if you enjoyed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 5: World at War, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare. You didn't have to enjoy all of them I guess, but it helps. I didn't play World at War myself, but I've been told there are similarities here.

As for bugs I haven't really experienced any issues after the first patch came out.

I've been having a good time with it. I've played just about every PC CoD, and while I certainly feel there are things I'd change with the newer games, I don't really have any major issues with Black Ops. The lack of flexibility in Ranked server game settings is a bit annoying.

Pick it up and give it a shot. In my book it's at least worth the price of admission.

How many of you bought this and have stopped playing it? It seems that all of my friends that spent hundreds of hours on MW2 have already moved on from Black Ops.

I've actually stopped playing it for the time being. When they come out with a substantial patch I'll probably start plying again. For me and a lot of other team members it has more issues than it's worth at the moment . To many "lost connections" and choppy-ness. The lack of server tools for ranked is another factor. I'm not done with it. Just taking a break.

I play it, and find it way more enjoyable than MW2. It reminds me of CoD4 which was awesome.

I am one of those affected by stuttering, hoping for an update. I enjoyed it prior to the last patch, and I love that they got rid of Stopping Power. Makes for much more diversity perkwise, even if weapons sort of went the other direction.

Better customization than Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and the perks aren't out of control like they were in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Im not as picky as others on here. I paid 46 bucks for it and i think that its worth it.
Its definitely not cod4 or ever will be in the sense that cod4 ran great , no rank unranked servers , modable from the start , ect.

This game has zombies in it, wager mode, great maps, built in mini alien swarm mode interesting kill streaks.

things i hate but doesn't affect game play much.
rank and unranked servers
no mods yet
no /connect yet
can not change kits buy contract mid game
no stopping power
4 wins till nextmap in SND mode

overall worth my money.

So i got to level 50 the other week, and haven'r really played it since... Not interested in Prestige in this game, don't know why :/

In MW2 i am Lvl70 9th Prestige and still play it, not going 10th because you're automatically called a cheater by utter asses, and there are enough of them around i dont need more. But still, i am playing it, i find it more fun. Maybe i was wrong, maybe buying black ops was a waste of money for me.

Running some tests for my game clan to determine if some of them can get away without having to upgrade their cpu's. The latest involves a e6750 that a member is using a 9800 GT installed. He complained of stuttering/frame shift during online play. My first test was to install a 5870 card in it's place and the results were good. Going to drop down to a GTX 260 next and test...

With less eye candy the fps is doubled...

No Stopping Power or Juggernaut actually makes the game better in my opinion. It opens up opportunities for players to play differently and in more diverse ways.

I mean more like the stuttering and crashing others are experiencing. I am not getting any of that so it doesn't really affect my game play in that way. i agree stopping power does make the game better. I hate not 1 shot sniping some one.

And to the guy doing the cpu tests.
I had a clan mate with a crappy phenom 9500 2.2ghz that complained of freezing and stuttering. After looking at the techspot cpu graphs i suggested maybe a cpu upgrade was needed even though MW2 ran great. He got the amd 945 phenom 2 3.0ghz and he said the freezing stopped and his frame are anywhere from double to tripled. Which is pretty shocking.

Play in hardcore mode instead of softcore and you won't have that problem.

I agree. I just like the feel of MW2 better. None of the perks and killstreaks and stuff people complain really bother me at all. Infinity Ward > Treyarch IMHO. The only thing I don't like about MW2 is the hackers, but I don't run into them that often and even then it's a simple matter of finding a new lobby. Plus you can actually party up and play (on the same team) with friends in MW2.

Lol, never heard regular CoD referred to as 'softcore' before. Sounds like you're talking about pr0n :p

I can't stand Modern Warfare 2's match making system. Going back to dedicated servers makes Black Ops the better game right there.

What's your issue with the matchmaking in MW2? At least it allows you to play on the same team with your friends/clan. I like how Black Ops lets you engrave your clantag into your weapon and then shoot your fellow clan members with it because they're on the other team...

e6750/MSI 5770 is proving to be a potent little combination. I can highly recommend the 5770 as a mid-range gpu...no stuttering whatsoever.

No way in hell would a 5770 be a midrange card, it's budget. Midrange would be the HD5850/GTX470 mark.

I think the screenshots of the Black Ops graphics settings proved that as well.

Budget...mid-range...whatever...coupled with a e6750 Dual Core it is impressive and quiet playable. ;)

Happy now? Btw, we just got a new patch minutes ago...:)

Short answer: It blows

Long answer: I can't stand sitting in the lobbies and waiting for the game to start. Games are limited to low score limits and 10 minute long matches. That right there blows goats. You don't even have a chat feature to pass the time while you are waiting. Some of the game types have few servers and you don't get matches within reasonable amounts of time. Furthermore the host migrations totally suck ass and happen far too frequently. Hackers run far too rampant and even quitting and trying to get into another match usually yields the same results. Another douche bag hacker. You can't do anything about it. There are no admins to kick them from the servers. P2P networking as a gaming protocol is a retarded idea. The developer was simply greedy and control happy. IWnet simply sucks ass and it showed.

It's terribly limited. The console guys don't get it because that's all they get and they are happy with it but on the PC it SUCKS.

I initially had issues with the game, but ultimately ended up being an issue with my PC. In the interim while I had installed it on my second gaming PC and was playing it at 1680x150 with medium quality and had zero issues. This was on a machine with the following;

Intel C2D 8400 @3.3Ghz
4GB DDR2
Nvidia 9800GT

Never had an issue / shutter at all. When I finished my main PC, fired it up and have yet to have any issues, well other than looking for servers. I will mention that I did force the game to see that I had one 1 GPU and enabled multi-cpu support. Some stated that the GPU option didn't work, however I can't explain why either PC are having zero issues now.

I haven't had any problems but then again I've got two GPUs and a multi-core processor. That seems to be what the game does best with.
