Before everyone shouts "just get a 20 inch for the same price" heres my situation.

I have very limited space on my desk but want to expand my desktop slightly with a tiny monitor. I will be using this monitor for use when typing papers, using photoshop, and gaming (teamspeak window, lots of in/out traffic).

My best solution would be a unit that requires no external power consumption.

1) Does anyone have a solution that they use? Would love to hear personal reviews.
2) http://www.amazon.com/7IN-LCD-800X4...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1288910688&sr=1-4 any recommendations?
3) I might be getting an iPad.. I dont know yet.. how well does this work for people? Its a feasible possible solution for me, but really would like to hear how others use it.

Is your vertical space seriously limited too? A small 16:9 placed in portrait mode would probably take up about as much horizontal space as one of the smaller screens you're looking at.

vertical is more cramped than horizontal.. I have to measure it (not home right now) I think a 9 inch horizontally might fit but a 7 inch definitely will

i would like to get this just to get onscreen keyboard is it touch screen?

currently sitting on the lilliput from ThinkGeek http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/usb-gadgets/c609/ .. 99 bucks aint bad at all I just cant bring myself to buy it right now. Maybe around Christmas.. we'll see.

This is pretty neat, but it's hard to justify considering 18.5" and 19" monitors come close to that price (if not cheaper).

@OP: inquiring minds what to see a photo of your desk space, hard to believe it's really that small. :p

Also, WTF:

Look at that deal, 70%! Just $329 for a 7" hot damn!

Maybe if it were OLED.

I don't quite get Amazon's pricing either.

OK, so here the deal. When I was away at college my parents completely redid my room. I came back to a desk and a bed. They choose the desk, and while I am happy with how it looks, it limited my choice of monitors. The reason I don't go out and get a new desk is because I do eventually plan on getting out of here.. hopefully in the next year and a half, and the investment in a new desk right now isn't quite worth it to me. Also, overall, I do like this desk. It's great for when im working or making lesson plans or whatnot.. its not ideal for a multimonitor set up.

Sorry for shitty picture quality:

The main monitor is a 21 inch Acer and it barely first horizontally.

My work/game space as a whole. My entire room is only 10x10. Opposite side of this pic is my bed, dresser, bookshelf, and closet.

Where the new monitor will go. The picture may be deceiving, but it is 8 1/2 inches high by ~10.5 inchs wide.

For comparison, this is my 10inch Lenovo NetBook. It barely fits into the space and does not fit vertically. So, a 9 inch screen may infact work.. but to spend 150 on one, to me, is absurd. I rather spend the 100 on the lilliput although the screen real estate is smaller. Ideally, I would be able to find one for ~79 bucks.. I could swallow that better.. but it just isnt there yet.

Someone on another forum insisted on a iPad with a dock and one of those multi-monitor apps. I have an iPhone, I enjoy iOS but damn thats an expensive monitor. I probably would use it for other things but.. Eh, I dont really need an iPad.

Thoughts? Am I going about this the wrong way?
