With all of the Black Friday deals, I thought it would be the best time to (finally) get a phone. I've been out of the cell phone loop so please bear with me.

I need everything a regular cell phone does, but I also need full HTML web browsing for directions (Google maps and Gmail). Being able to go on other sites, such as Youtube, would be a huge plus. Wifi connectivity is a must for when I am at home or around town.

I'm partial to Android because it seems less bloated than Windows mobile, and more usable than Symbian.

So, here are my questions...

Can you recommend a phone that will let me do all of the above?

Also, what carrier has the cheapest data plan? I plan to use less than 300 minutes per month for voice, but a lot of web browsing.

htc evo 4g

spring everything is 79.99/month which comes with 450 anytime mins, unlimited mobile to moble regardless of network (so bascially never use mins execpt landline calls) unlimited text data etc.

best deal goin. provided sprint coverage is good in your area.

sounds like the OP only visits major sites that already have apps built for them. Gmail, google maps, and youtube? um yeah you would hardly even use the actual web browser. So really any Android phone would suit you well.

If you are price sensitive and don't want to drop a couple hundred on a phone, then go for one of the mid-range models, like the Hero, the Optimus, the Zio, or the Intercept depending on your choice of form factor (whether you want a slide out keyboard, buttons, etc). They all run Android.

It is prettymuch Sprint that you want though, just like kilik64 says. They are the carrier with the most value right now.

If you're interested in starting a Sprint account, shoot me a PM, I can probably get you a nice discount off the $80 monthly price of service.

Verizon has a promotion plan right now for $70/month unlimited everything with 700 mins/month and you can add numbers (even land lines) to your account that don't use mins. If you went that route, I would go with the Droid X, Droid 2 Global or Fascinate.

You can't go wrong with Sprint either though. I would prefer the Epic 4G over the Evo though. Depends on if you like a physical keyboard or not too.

HTC Evo man. I'm actually typing this from an Evo phone right now. I was debating between the Evo and the Epic. After playing with my friends Evo who works at Sprint, the web browsing on a 4.3" screen makes a difference. It's only .3" bigger than the Epic but, you can tell the difference when comparing both phones side by side. The Epic may have the Super Amoled lcd but, the colors look overly saturated. It takes use to the touchscreen keyboard but, you'll get use to it.

Don't get the Droid 2 Global. Great phone horrible battery life, worse than an EVO. Been using it for a week, have to charge it twice a day..... Droid X is a great phone if you get a working one (both of mine were not working, bad luck I guess).

Another evo vote, replying with mine right now. When you get it put CM6 and snap on it, and install swype.

Any recent android phone. I love my Incredible but if I could have gone Sprint for the Evo I would have.

Evo for its wide screen. Droid x is stupid narrow, top heavy, and awkward to hold. I went with the Fasciante because its soooo lightweight. DX is 50% heavier. Pentile matrix isn't the best for text, but the benefits of such a high contrast ratio actually make extended sessions less fatiguing on my overly sensitive eyeballs. Go check em both out.
