Gran Turismo

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call them fanboys, it's just hard to accept cars looking like that when we've had eyeburstingly glorious photomode / developer rendered photos of the stupidly good premium cars thrown at us continuously for the last year.

It'll be the same for gameplay to a certain extent. Whilst it'll certainly look good, it wont look as good as the tasty replay footage a lot of people have been exposed to.

got mine. :)

Got my copy.

Just finished the B license and purchased a used FTO.

Word to everyone here, the installation times are fucking insane if you don't do the preinstallation. I just wanted to get a few races in before bed... holy shit. I'm installing now while I'm in bed, more to play tomorrow.

damnit man, I went to wal mart and they told me they didnt have their shipment in yet, SOOOO GAY

waiting until tomm morning I guess

I am really considering picking up a ps3 just for GT5 =p I love forza 3, but I love GT1 and GT2 aswell.

what is this business with standard cars anyway =p?

btw I need an honest opinion from someone whos played both

GT5 or Forza 3? I'll still probably buy the ps3 :p just trying to make myself feel better about it

Haha, wow those models are TERRIBLE. How many cars are actually modeled fully?

The non-super models look downright playstation 2 era. Such a disappointment , the sound is pretty good on lots of them but man 5-6 years of fucking development and Poly could only design 200 cars to true form but had access to a shit ton more?

I still think PG4 is vastly more impressive in terms of ALL the games car models models getting proper treatment and accurate scenery , GT series has quality physics but that does not fully make a racing game.

I even re-bought a PS3 just to play this .. the menu loading times are retarded even after the 40+ min full install , how the fuck did that happen? Why even install then? Is Poly incapable of making quick loading menu's? Its not like they are so vastly complex.

There is lazy coding all over the interface and there is no excuse for it , they couldn't have gotten more time to work on this game and yet its like a beta thats been in development maybe 1-2 years (outside of the 200+ cars that have incredible detail and show what the game should have really been).

Shit why didn't they just ditch the other 700-800+ cars and focus on a smaller amount and just do that , I don't need 40 kinds cars for every one Japanese manufacturer and 5-10 for (sometimes less) for every other country. Yes the company is Japanese based and has a well known love for there own country's cars but come on , this game is suppose to be about the "international" racing world.

I'm going return my PS3 and trade in this game , I realize in this thread I'll get flamed for it but I'm seriously angry that I waited this long for something that on one hand is quite beautiful and well laid out ...while on the other hand its lazy coding , slow menu's , long load times and shitty models for the majority of cars (save the 200+ that got the treatment every car should have) just isn't something I can't ignore.

If this game came out 3 years ago I would be more impressed but Polyphony has fallen behind in more than a few aspects and lost touch with what made them so great. Its sad to because the GT series 1 , 2 and 3 games made me really love racing games in general , I wasn't even into them but the GT series had that kind of effect on me.

must be nice you dirtbag!!!

man i miss my gto.

hows the z06?

i love it! more fun than the SRT-10 (unreliable) or blown C5 (almost as fun) i had previously. bought it 11 months ago and have put about 8k miles on it. i work from home, so those 8k miles are the result of lots of totally unnecessary trips to Microcenter and the Walmart that is not closest to my house.

I drove 40 mins to get a copy from a different walmart and after an hour of playing, I can honestly say its a freakin awesome game.

Just my opinion, not the fastest or the most jaw dropping, but it is accurate and fun. A combination really hard to get.

Although I probably biased because even if it sucked I would prob like it lol.

Oh well I am happy :-D

I played for about 2 hours last night, and I can say that I'm really enjoying the game.

Just be sure to do the pre-installation, don't do the "install as you go option" which just means clicking no when it asks you to install. This causes loading screens to happen pretty much everywhere you do something in the game.

The game is huge it seems, can't wait to dig deeper tonight.

After 5+ years of waiting, there is no way this game was going to love up to all the hype it's been getting.

Not sure what is up with that screenshot but from my gameplay last night, it didn't even look close to that bad.

I only played about an hour or 2 of GT5 at a neighbors and I would say at times the game looks pretty amazing. It's horribly inconsistent though. The lighting looked strange at times, framerate took a dive at the strangest times and the tearing is really irritating. The physics at times were a joke. Crashing into a wall full speed was laughable. The damage modeling needs a lot of work. Overall it feels like this game should have been out 3 years ago, before Forza 3. It's like GT4.5 or something.

They nailed the driving portion, but the whole package is just so boring I can't see how people would play through it all. After 6 years I figured they were going to completely step it up and blow Turn10 out of the picture. GT is wildly popular, but 6 years for this? Really?

Forza 3(if you're trying to compare graphics) looks much more consistent. I wouldn't say Forza looks better, but it doesn't try to do too much, and the focus was clearly on the game as an overall package. I have no doubt now that PD has shown their hand Turn10 can completely dethrone them with FM4. Especially since GT5 barely does anything better then Forza 3. Convincing GT fanboys of that though will be impossible. Reading other forums they all seem close to the edge because the game isn't getting all 10's..

Wow that's terrible, how many of the tracks are light that?
Not a lot, that's basically a standard car on a "standard track". Not that they're called standard tracks any more, but they're essentially the same thing as the standard cars... ported over from GT4 with minor tweaks.

Without wanting to get into the whole Forza vs GT thing (that way lies agony), I will say that one thing Forza did absolutely right was 60fps always, and no tearing. It might not be quite as shiny as GT5, but they deserve credit for that.

is their a list of what tracks are "standard" ?

GT5 is simply overly ambitious, and ahead of its time. Just take a look at premium cars in photo mode. It's ridiculously astounding how much detail went in to them, considering all that detail is never fully appreciated during gameplay. As for the standard models...they wouldn't have taken up much development time at all, considering they're ported from GT4 / GTPSP.

They've supposedly been updated as appropriate. I wont be touching them though, simply because I only drive cockpit.

Though apparently there are a couple of challenges where I wont have a choice. :(

Disappointing to see this isn't the huge winner we expected :( Going to pick up my copy now, but I have a feeling it will take the cake over Forza 3 for me simply because the PS3 actually lets me use my G25 instead of forcing me to buy some garbage Microsoft wheel.

Wasn't really saying otherwise, but there's not a lot anyone can do about it. The Logitech wheel lacks the security chip required to make it run on the 360, and can't handle the way the 360 does force feedback... so it's never going to work.

That's why I waited until I could get a wheel which worked on both. Not ideal, but that's life I guess.

After 15 minutes I'm about 1/3rd done installing. Why do PS3 games take so long to install? Probably the same reason it takes forever to backup/restore, update firmware, and patch games as well.
