I upgraded my comp recently and have been going back and playing some of the games that my old system wouldn't run properly...GTAIV...

When I had my x2 550 and 9800gt the game was playable (20-50fps) with pretty much every graphical option turned down. I knew that the game liked multi-core cpus and figured with my new hardware I'd be able to max the game out with no problem...

Well I turned every graphical option to the right in CCC and enabled MAA and the game runs I would say equally the same, performance wise, with my new hardware. It hovers around 25-30 with dips and spikes here and there. There are a few times where it stutters when there is heavy action.

What kind of rig will it take to run this game at 60fps???

btw I'm playing at 16:9.

i7 980X (overclocked of course), 12gb of ram, 3xGTX580 (or 4 if possible) or better yet 2x 4gb 5970s since the game craves VRAM, and a SSD.

Honestly I don't know that anyone has ever maxed it, it's a poor performing console port that is extremely extremely CPU and VRAM hungry.

Meh...I mean it's playable but, jeebus. The game is beautiful maxxed out, just wish it would atleast run at a constant 30fps. Oh well.

Well with my i7 920 mildly oc'd to 3.4ghz and a single 5870 at stock, it ran at 1920x1200 with every setting maxed, tweaked greater draw distance, and gfx enhancing mods at 60fps+.

Now with my e6600 at 3.6ghz and 5870 overclocked, ran at medium settings, no mods at 15-25fps.

Really just need good CPU.

1055t oc'd to 3.5, 5830 oc'd to 980/1215, 8gb DDR3. game runs almost maxed at 1920x1080 for me. I just toned down the shadows and AA to x4. Looks incredible and explosions don't even knock down my fps.

I can get 60fps if I drop my settings a bit.

Once you've got a decent CPU and graphics card behind it a raid0 or SSD will really smooth out game play and get rid of all those smaller stutters and drops in fps.

Also, GTA4 is the kind of game where it doesn't need to be running at 60fps constantly to feel smooth and fluid, if you're addicted to staring at that fps counter you may be out of luck no matter what you're running.

I still personally think it's the best looking and feeling game I've played to date.
