Leaving WoW. Looking for a good Story MMO

I played WoW for about 9 months from launch onwards. My first ever MMO. The huge open world was memorizing. I'll never forget the first time walking into Ironforge and seeing all those other players. Roaming from zone to zone was a true adventure, especially when I had never seen anything like it before.

But after 9 months of playing, I had my fill of it. The game took on this been there done that aura, so I just quit. I can't see myself ever returning, especially if I need to activate my credit card to do so. If it was free I could see revisiting out of curiosity.

But to spend days and months with it, no. I would play something else that isn't such a cartoon universe. I was in the mood for a good Conan game so I played AoC for several months. Mostly for the PvE content. I got a character to the level cap and unsubscribed. I could see returning if there are any more expansions with some good old Conan gameplay to experience. I thought Age of Conan was good fun, a massive hack n' slash with great looking graphics and lots of blood

Age of Conan had huge potential but after you got to level 30 they game pretty much told you " Hey here are a bunch of zones , with no real quests to do and dungeons are going to be extremely frustrating considering you have to share the instance with other people ... good luck asshole!"

The raiding system was quite broken as well , I remember hearing how raid bosses would glitch out but Funcom was banning players for glitching out bosses even though no one knew how to do that lol.

I quit after I hit level 40 the game just wasn't there , even if you did dungeons there were NO ITEMS to get .. everything was so fucked.

Ok so I cancelled my WoW account today so im happy. IThanks for the help with the MMOs enjoying LORTO so far

I played wow off and on for a few years, more off than on. I have trouble playing games that baby you along like that and kept getting bored. I have been playing Eve Online for about a little over 5 years now. Nothing really like it. Unquestioningly the largest game world of an MMO and PVP can be really heart pounding. BUT, the best thing is, there is virtually no kids, and virtually no stupid people.

Anyone watch Zero Punctuation's video game reviews?

but it's so friggen playable. coming from UO, EQ, and SB I was literally in love with the game and played it for at least a year and a half. the pvp arenas were great. NCSoft had so many innovations I could cry. My favorite was the no-running-your-ass-off-between-zones feature. Insta-travel........um hello wow??

GW is not made by NCSoft, they are just a publisher...

Its made by ArenaNet .. don't you find it odd that something coming out from NCSoft that actually have a storyline and not grind? :p

I'm sad to say I am considering reactivating WoW for the expansion. I love the story line and really thats all I want but I'm trying to resist.

Nothing to be sad about unless you're trying to impress someone other than yourself. Cataclysm is nothing less than a great improvement over the previous expansions. I can't even decide which starting zone to do when the game goes live (played through both in the beta), but I'm leaning toward Vashj'ir because of the sweet intro sequence. I haven't leveled in Hyjal since the beginning of beta (in July) so it was in a very early state, but there wasn't really a wrap-up in-game cinematic like there was when I finished Vashj'ir. Regardless, both have a great continuous story arc from start to finish.

If you asked my wife if she would rather walk in on me with another woman or playing wow...she would probably say other woman. I really would like to play cat, but I also want to remain married.

DO IT! I haven't played in about 3 years, and I did a 10 trial when the 4.0 patch came out, I love playing my pally now, warlock is ok it got changed around but is still same in alot of ways. My 59 rogue twink is a blast too now.

You could meet your laptop at a hotel and use the free Wifi.

For kicks, keep an extra laptop with you logged into an empty WoW account so when she eventually follows you to the hotel and busts into the room, you can ask her to 'join in' as a last ditch effort. Hey, you never know!

You just haven't relapsed yet.

I played WoW for the first time after the first expansion was released, and only because a few of my friends decided to give it a shot. I only lasted a month and a half before I quit playing that POS, and I still haven't had the slightest urge to go back...

As the title sais. I am a very avid WoW loser lol. Ive been playing for about 5 years & I feel like its time to let go. I recently took a break for about 6 months to get life straight and I just recently last month redid my account but to be honest I dont feel for the game like I used to at all. I feel even with Cata coming out Im not going to be able to put my life back into WoW.

I was wondering. I am looking for a Free MMO with a GOOD Story to go with the game. I see that Lord of the rings online is now free so what do you guys think of it. Im downloading it now but its obviously going to take a bit so im looking for advice before its finished.

Like I said im looking for a fun to play MMO with a good story behind it. Does one exsist that is Free? I did try Cabal that my friend told me about I thought it was lame.

I quit WOW a few years back. Raiding and just general rep grind was turning into a second job especially when trying to get 40 people to show up on time. Todays WOW is so much more forgiving and easier from what I have seen (brother still plays)

On top of that I have a 20 month old boy which keeps be plenty busy. :)

wow thanks for the technicality:D

and if anyone thinks GW had a story line they are delusional. A plot.....maybe. but story? omg no.

Still the funnest mmo i've played. except maybe the original EQ, but that was just pure romantic first-time puppy love I guess.

I will have to say that WoW ate plenty of my nights back in the vanilla days. I usually play for 6 months when a new expansion is realeased then quit until the next X-pac.

New undead zones in Cata = Sex.

Best leveling zones in an MMO period. And I say that as an avid LotROer.
