I've been using the iPhone for so long and now I want to try something new. I think I'm gonna go with an Android device (Window 7 phone is still kinda new so I don't wanna jump on that right away).
So I'm looking at a variety of phones and finally narrow down my choice to the HTC G2. I've been using T-Mobile for years and since I'm very happy with their service, I wanna stick with them for awhile. It seems I can get a better deal at retailer like Costco or RadioShack, most likely I'm gonna get it at Costco so I can take advantage of the 90 days exchange in case I'm not happy with it. Since I'm gonna get it soon, I just wanna see your thoughts on the phone and any suggestions are welcome.:D
Thanks in advance!

It's a great phone, not thrilled about the hinge build quality though. Personally, I'd wait and get the Nexus S in February though, or find a Nexus One used.

I was really worried about the hinge issue as well.... for a while anyhow. It's no longer a worry for me after using the phone for about a month now. It's no looser than it was when I got it, and I have actually grown to like the ease at which it opens and closes.

All and all, the G2 is by far the best phone I have ever used. The only real problem I have is that I have a tendency to accidentally put it on hold when holding it up to my left ear.... I think I'm the only person on the planet with this problem, but it is annoying. The hold button is in a really stupid spot on the screen in my opinion.....

I'm thinking of getting a couple of G2's myself. I went and played with the phone in store today and it's really quick.

For current G2 owners, how is your battery life?

I'm getting about 10 to 12 hours when used almost constantly at work for email, messaging and light internet use.

And I talk on it sometimes too.....

For me being a student I unplug about 5:30am. I use my g2 as a mp3 player most of the day that im not in class plus regular call/sms/internet via wifi. My school does not have good cell reception at all thank god for wifi calling. I usually plug in when I go to bed at night around 11ish with anywhere from 18 to 40ish percent remaining on my battery. I'm very pleased with battery life considering I had a samsung vibrant directly before this and that thing was terrible for battery life.

I'm getting outstanding battery life on my G2. My normal day involves a lot of email and texting with possibly a few calls thrown in and maybe some time spent playing Angry Birds and I usually have half or more battery when it's time to go to bed.

Alright so I just called T-Mobile again and they honor the price of $129.99 for the G2 without MIR or nothing, just extend my contract to another 2 year and still keep same number, just pay $20 more for unlimited data plan. I think the lesson here is you just gotto keep calling and talk to different rep till they give you the discount.

To G2 owners, is this a good skin for the phone?

I have had my G2 now for about two weeks, and I love it. I occasionally do Quadrent benchmarks to remind me how awesome this thing is stock.

My battery life is very excellent; from using it as a gba emulator, email, web, txt, mp3 player, by the end of the day i am usually around 20% when I plug her in at 9 or 10. I start my day around 7:20. I sometimes charge at work when I am stuck in the ol' cube, and sneak gba games in from time to time. ;)

I am tempted to perm root it, and OC it to at least 1ghz or maybe 1.2ghz.

My only complaints are indeed the hing, although I am warming up to it more each day. It's fluid, and i have only droped it once because of the rapid hinge action, and my butter fingers. My other gripe is wifi, and droid 2.2. it doesn't like my college's wpa2 network AT ALL, and i cant seem to save the profile.

Besides that, it's a great feeling phone. keyboard is all around good to excellent, feels good in the hands. It is a big phone, and it shows; might take some getting used to having such a big phone in your hand. The tactile feeling of the keyboard keys, and the general aesthetic of the phone's construction materials are good. mobile wifi hotspot creation was useful for when your friends are too cheap to buy internet. :)

I've heard enough good things about this phone to make me wanna get it right away, Tuesday can't come soon enough. :D
Anyway since I'm totally new to Android, what is a good guide to help me get started?

Go here and read. A lot of really helpful information over there.

As far as a "skin" is concerned, I don't have one and I don't think I'm going to get one either. I did put a screen protector on it as soon as I go it, but managed to get a big piece of dust or something under it and that drove me nuts. I took it off and ordered a new one, but decided by the time it arrived that I didn't need one. I don't know what the screen is made of, but it seems to be just about scratch proof. I carry it in my pocket all day, and so far so good. I have heard this from many others as well. In addition, the brushed aluminum back, which will scratch, seems to almost heal, as I have noticed several pretty deep looking scratches that have disappeared.

Just my opinion. Hope you like the phone as much as I do.

The G2 is one of the best phones out, I used the older Google G1 for 1.5 years so far and it puts even the new iphone to shame in most realistic situations.

The G2, with faster components and newer android system.....? Surely will be good, without a doubt.

But yeah, the Google G2 is on sale for $49 with FREE 2-day shipping included at amazon

Definitely recommend it compared to the iphone if you want to switch... your apps will be cheaper (usually free and better than iphones (e.g: Google Skymap), and so will your monthly bills... by about 10-20% cheaper than the AT&T iphone bill typically.

The G2 at the local wally world has had its hinge completely demolished in only a few days..... Granted it gets a lot of abuse there, but I wouldn't trust it to hold up for 2 years.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely look into that when I get the phone in the next couple days. I just ordered the skin on Amazon along with the case just to get some protection. I tend to care about this kind of thing since I believe it will prolong the phone's condition as most of my phones I have used were in good condition even after a few years using.
I hope I'll have fun with it. :D

Unfortunately I'm on an even more plus plan so they won't let me do the upgrade, I would have to start a new service to get it for $50 but I'd rather keep my number. Anyway, I already sorted thing out with a T-Mobile specialist and he offered me the phone for $129.99 along with $20 for unlimited web, that's a great deal and I didn't hesitate to jump on it right away.
As I said I'm new to Android so hopefully I'll have great experience with it.

It's like a hit and miss from user reviews but only time can tell how it's gonna work out for me. :p
