New Deux Ex : Human Revolution Gameplay Trailer

Ill be trying it. We all know deus ex is one of the greatest pc games of all time, and that this will never be that good. But we shall see if it is good enough. Oh and it will be consolized. Thats a given in just about any game we play these days minus a handful.

Deus Ex dev answers trailer questions

Is every option (choice you have to make in order to progress) obvious/presented clearly before you?

No. Absolutely not. Some choices will be presented in ways that the outcome will be more obvious but, a lot of choices will be more or less hidden in the challenges you face and in the narrative...

That means it's very linear.

It has potential to be great, yet it could be quite bland. It's going to be one of those games where I don't think we will know until it is released. It better not suck.

The graphics don't look all that great in that video imo. Also the weapon selection menu seems like its designed for consoles. Ugh!

So far it looks a lot better than I was afraid it would. Inventory system looks pretty cool - nice interface! And I'm glad the game is still in first-person. Other than that, there's not much to say about this. The graphics look about as good as they can for being on consoles.

I'm still hopefull that this one will at least outdo DE2.

Not impressed, the interface is fugly and everything else looks very generic. Another victory for the console zombies.

I hope it's good.

Independent of this, here's something I wish would happen: I wish some crew would take the original game and basically remake it with a great modern day engine, modern day graphics, and some of the other modern day perks but it's still the Deus Ex game we all know as its foundation. With maybe some of the old quirky bugs fixed, of course. ;)

Meh I'm expecting it to be as bad as 2, if it's anything better I will be impressed. If they can make it as good as the first one it will be the best day of my life!

It won't be as good as one, barring a truly pleasant shock, but I bet it's better than 2.

Reminded me of Batman:AA with an equally drab color pallet. I also could do without the console style slow ass control movement.

I have been playing video games for almost 33 years of my life. As much as any developer tries to prevent linear progression, a game will be nothing but linear. I think the argument is really how well it amuses the person to prevent the filling of linear boredom. Which will, obviously, be relative.

Anyways, I am interested. I am a sucker for Cyberpunk, dystopia, zombie, or post apocalyptic games.

Are you implying all games of all genres are linear?

I think the problem with linearity in games boils down to linearity in narrative. ie stories typically have a (single) beginning and a (single) end. Even if the player is allowed to achieve objectives in semi-arbitrary order, if the narrative is mostly invariant it will still feel quite linear. Mass Effect 2 comes to mind. The player's choices only affect small details of the game rather than the entire outcome of the game and to me that felt very linear.

So why don't game writers create stories with wildly distinct plot branches? Limited time and money. Either the plot branches are few, short, shallow, or expensive. It's not just the writing, since nowadays everything has to be voice-acted and motion-capped. So as games become richer and more detailed the cost to add storyline increases.

I vote for Bleh......

it has a cover system.....so....you know it is not going to be awesome.

I have high hopes. To be honest, I expect them to screw it up, but I'm hopeful they wont!

Extremely unimpressed and very expected. Any trailer that "quick-cuts" every 1.5 seconds is hiding linear/dumb gameplay. The same thing happened with Invisible War and it was just as true when I said it then as it is now.

Not a really comparable trailer. Heavy Metal music and a combat montage? No...

This new trailer actually showed sneaking around, inventory management, various ways to approach a situation and hacking. Sure there were a lot of cuts, and no doubt their hiding some of the short-comings of the game, but that is typical of any trailer.

Some people just want to hate.

Pretty much.
