The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings ann.

Yup, delayed to May 17.

Not a bad thing, if you ask me. March will be Deus Ex and Dragon Age 2 month for me personally... as will April.

Yup, delayed to May 17.

Will that mean that the Special Edition will come out on the same date as the normal game?

All of the choices you made in the first game will affect the second game. There were tons of different paths that you could have chosen in the first game. Sort of like Mass Effect 1 going into Mass Effect 2.

Ahh, that makes sense now. I was planning on playing through it for a third time right before I get the new one. But now, I think I will do it twice, one on each major game side to get the most out of the second one.

I'm waiting to see how those two games turn out before committing to buying them. I'm really hoping Deus Ex is good, I want it to be excellent, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I hope Witcher 2 surpasses the original, the original game was pretty great, even if the gameplay was very basic. The story was fucking fantastic, i need to play through it again during Christmas vacation.

I hope they keep the combat the same style, was nice to see such good swordplay and magic easily combined.

I hope they improved/changed the combat.

Hugely, hugely agree with this.

Ultimately, this is why I stopped playing. Combat just sucked. There were tons of stats and a myriad of branching trees to select from upon level up. But did any of this make your character feel any different? Hardly at all.

All that leveling up just made Geralt swing his sword faster. LOL! It was an RPG too!

I have hopes that the second game is going to be an improvement straight across the board. The developer irritates me to no end though. Releasing a game unfinished because your development cycle is two years past due, and because you need to ship in time for the early Christmas sales, and then taking a year to patch the game, and calling the patch an 'enhancement' that's free of charge, is the single most deceptive thing I've seen in gaming... even worse than the Ultima Ascension scandal... and I still can't believe that people fell for it.

Were we playing the same game?

The game was fine without the "enhanced edition", the combat was fine, how could you not find your character any different after leveling up?

Did you not notice the extra attacks or the better magic abilities? Did those just pass you by?

so how is witcher? i saw some overhead game maps in a walkthough and it looked like fable, tons of invisible walls and gauntlets which basically equates to no exploring.

I already called him on spreading BS about the game, which was conveniently ignored. The game was patched several times before EE was released. Also, upping combat skills gave more swings and better combos etc.

I will need to go back and replay some of the original. It's been a long time since I finished that one. The main thing I disliked about the first one was the long quests that involved running back and forth gathering items on opposite ends of the map. I would enjoy a better fast travel system, something along the lines of Fallout/Oblivion. I also remembered being very frustrated by the ending as the fight was really, really hard for my character.

Wow, just talking about The Witcher makes me want to go home and install it again right now...

How did eyefinity support work in the first one? That might make the long walks on the quests ok again -- it sure did for Stalker (looking at the sky/horizon is amazing).

I recall the devs stating in some interview that they are really changing/improving combat.

From watching the videos, if this game is half as good as the devs play it up to be, this game is going to be really top notch. It appears that CD Project is dumping a lot of talent and resources into the engine and the game. I wonder where they are getting financial backing from. Maybe they don't compete with companies like EA for talent because of linguistic and geo/demographic differences. They certainly don't appear to be restricted to a budget diet like American publishers that must bow down to quarterly profits and the investor by focusing on the easy formula: "7 hour console games ported to PC on a pre-existing engine".

I must say again that this game is quite the undertaking if it's half as good as the devs play it up to be.

Witcher 2 will be GOTY for me easily. the first title is fantastic in every way - the second will be even better.

CDP isn't your typical developer catering to the console crowd. the only thing that scares me is if they find a way to port 2 to consoles which is in the works. if 2 gets ported, you can bet the farm that the 3rd title will be developed in every regard for consoles, at which point the series will be dead to me.

Well, CDP is already in the thick of console business (from their website):

Code:
CD Projekt attains another significant success in
2006. Launching its operations in the electronic
entertainments market in Poland, the Microsoft
Company entrusts CD Projekt with the distribution
of the Xbox 360 console, accessories and, of
course, the games that go with it.

Are consoles even big in the Easter Bloc? They might mostly be PC gamers over there.

Well, it is available for pre-order on steam, not long now to find out if a real disappoint or a triumph, I don't see it being inbetween for some reason.

I really don't think they could fuck it up, at least I hope. TW1 was one of the best games I've ever played and I'm also not a huge RPG'er these days. I played through it for the first time a month or two ago. I hope the release of TW2 will help get the remaining novel's stateside.

Yeah they have only translated a couple of them at least I have only found two, "the last wish" and "the blood of the elves".

What I hope but doubt for would be another excellent intro as that was the best I have ever seen really and it set the tone for the game.

For anyone worried about DRM: Pre-order it on Good Old Games. Free stuff, plus zero DRM.

One does not necessarily follow the other. Brain dead console gamers (I jest!... partially) might not be that interested in what The Witcher has to offer. If it does not do well on consoles this time around (assuming it is ported), then they would have no reason to focus more on them if there is another sequel.

I pre-ordered from Gog, didn't have to put any money which was cool. I haven't figured out what free game I am going to pick thinking of either Realms of Arkania 3 or maybe Divine Divinity.

Yea, I'm going the GOG route with this too. No reason to get it from anywhere else, really.

Wow, these guys are really putting on the show. Why don't they have a polish version? I thought that was their original language.

Speaking of which, how has GOG changed since a while ago?

There is an exclusive publishing deal with another site in Poland.

Already mentioned however what is also not mentioned is that the release date is 13th of may 2011, not nov 2010.

they had a preview in pcgamer this last issue.. the wussy reviewr complained that the original was to sexist nudity etc etc and int he rview he says he told CD projekts that and they agreed and the 2nd is gonna be crap in the mature department.. they already cutting the topless slave chick from the opening quest they say.

i wasnt more sex trading cards more euro whores and more senseless adult actions!

I have nothing but bad experience with the GoG service, so I won't be pre-ordering the game from them. Maybe Steam, but I'll be on the lookout for the Polish version of the game. I remember playing the W1 with the Polish dialogue and then switching to English for comparison, and believe me when I tell you, the translation was terrible. I've heard the EE fixed the English script, however.

With the Witcher 2 and Battlefield 3 coming out this year... I think I finally have the need to upgrade my ati 4890 that has lasted me years.
