PSPhone

so sony going to have 3 psps to compete with itself?
pspgoslim
psp2
pspphone?

What about that pic incinuates that it'll be GSM?

GSM requires a SIM card. CDMA does not. The pic says "No SIM card" on the phone display, therefore it must require one. In turn, it would be a safe bet that this baby is a GSM phone.

Ahh, for some reason, that's not the same pic I saw when I clicked on that link on my phone. All I saw was the pic where the screen is black.

Well I guess I won't be getting one then unless it has CDMA radios too.

Sony really doesn't make anything but GSM phones, so you're going to be out of luck more than likely then.

sony doesn't know wtf they are doing in the mobile market.

when this phone comes out, unless it can run all the psp titles the pspgo can, its already dead.

The thing is, it's a phone, and Sony may very well subsidizes part of the cost as a console sale, so in essence you could get a phone as powerful as the ones on the market today WITHOUT A CONTRACT at a much cheaper price than anything else without contract (maybe even the $200-250 price point?).

That alone would create a market for it.

Obviously, Sony wouldn't profit much from it, but hey, consumers would love it.

And as we've seen with the PS3, market penetration can be turned around into profit. The PS3 had a TERRIBLE software attach rate for quite some time; so many people were buying it merely for a bluray player. A few dozen million PS3s sold later, though, and their software sales skyrocket and now they're rolling in the profit.

They're risking a lot in creating the market for it before profits, but Sony's managed to pull it off three times now, and this phone had the added benefit of already having a common development/customer base with all other android phones.

if this ran psp games and was released in a timely manner, I agree that it would be attractive for people looking at a new phone (including myself). it would be ~$200 for a fairly high end android phone I could game on, and I already pay for cell service monthly so no big deal there.

if this is a new platform incapable of running psp games while sony pushes it only as a psphone platform, its going to die a swift death. there just isn't a market for a specific phone platform like this when devs would make more money on games that ran on all android phones. see the n-gage for what happens when companies attempt this.

There are a lot of people that game on android. Even if this thing dont play any PSP games its fitting a niche that people have been asking for.

When i look at it all i can think of is the mount of fun i can have with nothing more than a couple emulators.

The PSPhone has its own target market- those who want to enjoy games in their phone. I actually think this is their strength. As for me, I'll stick with Androids since I have gadgets for gaming purposes.
