Apple: “Back to the Mac” on Oct 20

I love how the m11x was the "best thing since sliced bread" in the notebook forum, but you are just poo'poo'ing this (which is just a variation on the theme). Just because it's an Apple.

You'd think people would be used to this double-standard by now. :)

Pretty much, the amount of unwarranted Apple hate on this forum is immense. They have come a long way in the fit, finish, and quality of their products since the iMac days...and now even their pricing is extremely competitive to top it off.

I think the App Store on OS X is going to be HUGE.

If you are even remotely interested in developing for OS X, right now would be the time to get in on the ground floor, so to speak.

It will help introduce new users to apps they might not know that existed. Right now its either see it mentioned somewhere, or Google search. The App Store will help make a unified presence for folks wanting to maximize their available audience. No need to worry about how to accept payments, hosting costs of your application on some web space or even how to get the App installed. Apple will handle all that for only 30% of the selling cost. They handle installing, updating, uninstalling and marketing/publicity.

I am going to be getting another machine and thinking about getting my feet wet in application development cause there is going to be a lot of money to be made here.

Yeah, even if I wasn't a Mac user, I'd still be making that point. Double-standards and hypocracy annoy me.

Speaking of which:

Just noticed this shot that makes the size comparison quite obvious:

That 11.6" model sure does look like a... well, you can figure it out. ;)

Boy, I guess that means this Sony TZ is a netbook too right? I mean it's the same size, so obviously it's a netbook.

netbooks = laptops meant only for "surfing the net"

like nettops = desktops meant only for "surfing the net"

laptop = duh

thin and light = thinner than all, powerful enough to do standard business work, but not as powerful as a laptop

Go out and buy an 11.6" MBA and I'll go buy an 11.6" netbook, complete with an Atom processor.

Since we're sure these machines are equal judging by the screensize, we can trade them.

Ignoring price, why are you not getting a good deal?

So the 13.3-inch Macbook Air has a 1440x900 screen? I have two things to say about that:

1). Thank you, Apple, for ignoring the FullHD/16:9 marketing bullshit and sticking with 16:10 (both here and with the Pros).

2). Thank you for realizing that more vertical pixels at sizes below 17-inches is not something to be utterly terrified of (unlike 99% of other notebook makers out there).

Too bad its freaking $1,300. >_<

A 1.6 C2D is faster that a lot might think, I have one in a certain device of mine and it flies along nicely with Windows 7 so OS X should do even better right?

I was considering a 13" MBA as my first Mac, but the lack of a backlit keyboard is such a painful deal breaker for me. Jeez, it's supposed to be a premium/luxury model, eth were they thinking?

I was thinking of buying a MBP next month but when I heard this I was like, "okay, now let's wait for awhile". So I'll guess I would cancel my purchase and then wait until next year to see what Apple will come up with.

Where it would fit for one. This design is already pretty dense and is probably going to be pretty warm, no need to add fuel to the fire so to speak.
Are you familiar with the prev-gen MacBook Air?

It features nearly identical dimensions and a backlit keyboard.

But isn't this design a little thinner and ligher than the previous gen? The backlight was cut out for a reason is all I'm saying which means it was space, weight or cost issue.
