Pretty much. TBH, I'd be suprised if it came out next year.

On the plus side, all this dev time should mean that the finished product will be polished and relatively bug free.

OP: Some companies (like Valve, ID, Blizzard etc) don't have to follow orders from some publisher/suit, they can do whatever they want and release whenever they want. So don't get your hopes up for a release anytime soon.

Blizzard is owned by Vivendi, you had better believe Vivend is under the control of share holders, but Blizzard is bringing in over a billion dollars a year just with WoW so there is really no reason to mess with them.

I don't think Zenimax (they own id) is publicly traded, but with the names behind the company you can bet there is pressure for everyone to put out quality in a semi-timely manner.

Wrong. Starcraft 2 was pretty much, 'done' in 2008. Blizzard spent nearly 2 years just balancing the game.

Diablo 3 is going to be a 2012 release, at least thats what Ive been told.

I disagree. "Pressure" might be the wrong word - more like a 'friendly request which can be freely ignored, do as you wish'.

Those are the companies which can put their release date as "when it's done" and then delay a title for YEARS perfecting it to their standard. And no one, even their shareholders/owners are gonna pressure them because they know that they are still gonna make a huge profit on the final product.

Someone telling John Carmack what to do ? lol too funny.

Vivendi is the majority share holder in ActiBlizz. Essentially they own ActivisionBlizzard.
 
What's this? serious discussion? No, we should be talking about Diablo's release date.
 
It will come out after the beta.

I don't think they'll need as long. It won't be a major sport in Korea, like SC2.

I'm hoping for a 2011 release. Maybe I'm odd, but I liked Diablo 1 more than 2, even though I spent some time on the ladders for 2. I seem to be anticipating this release much more than those who think D2 is the pinnacle of gaming.
 
Finally, someone who shared my sentiment.

I also enjoyed D1 more than 2. The second one seemed to lose that creepy dungeon crawl feel that Diablo 1 had.
 
You learn something new everyday, I had no clue Vivendi still had any control over Blizz or ActivBlizz :eek:

I guess D2 is better, but D1 had a special dark atmosphere to it. Or maybe it was the excess hours of D2 that killed all favor for that game. D2, was pretty special on my first play-through. I suppose D1 hasn't lost that charm because I never played the whole thing through more than once. And with multiplayer D2, forget about atmosphere, it was all about power leveling and magic find to get the bigger carrot always dangling in front of your nose.

I don't think I can stomach another mind-numbing grindfest. But I suppose the first playthrough of D3 will have fun and great atmosphere. I might skip multi this time around though.
 
Yea I agree D1 was 'better' but given the choice I'd have to stick with 2 due to size and character choices. I picked up d1 first because someone wanted me to play d2 with them, i felt like i had to play the first game. I think playing D2 first would ruin it because you'd feel like d1 was too slow (no running) and challenging.

I love games where you drop your equipped stuff and have to fight back to it (even more fun with a trustworthy buddy online)
