What do I look for in a PSU?
A Gold medal winner from the [H] PSU reviews.
Seriously.
The only reviews I ever check for psu's are from the [H] (except for jonnyguru reviews, but they arent as well laid out as the [H]).
I like single rail PSU's
I like modular PSU's
1 % regulation
<50mv ripple on 12v
<20mv ripple on 3.3/5v
Great heat temps (not so worried about noise, as long as the heat gets out fast, for longevity).
Top Efficiency would be nice, but I really dont mind lower #'s.
Transient/switching would be nice to be low, but I dont really fully understand that part of the testing anyway, so....
The last thing I look for is peak power. I always buy WAY above what I really need for a couple reasons: 1. SLI upgrade. I have decided to run SLI 2x over the past 4(?) years, and was glad I had a bigger psu than what the system needed so that I could accomidate sli.
2. Longevity. If the psu runs at 1/2 or less of the needed voltage, then it should last twice as long, right?
