HP ZR24w

Lol, ok. Hmm, I don't even remember what games are like on crt's. I still have a 17" Viewsonic pt775 crt lying around. It's a little on the small side, but I'm curious to see how games look/run on that now. Last time I played games on that was probably over 10 years ago. Maybe I'll try playing some fps on it this weekend.

I would LOVE to see how games look/run on that behemoth crt! Hmm, I just looked up the refresh rates on the Viewsonic, and it does do 119 hz at 1024 x 768 resolution! Oh shit, it looks like I have a 120 hz monitor! I gotta try it now! I definitely don't plan on gaming on this, but I really want to see how fps games run on this monitor now!

You might SCORE, I am slightly jealous.;)

Ya its seems like a good deal even over the Macmall price with rebate. I have been in contact with RocknRoll and he seems very reputable. I look forward to working out a deal with him and getting myself a nice new monitor.

Thanks for the reply RocknRoll :D

@Rock&Roll - PM sent. Hope I'm not too late!

Excellent informative threat, btw.

I've read much of this thread and I've read the flatpanels hd and TFTcentral reviews. Basically all the potential issues with this monitor are clear to me aside from one thing: Does the TFTcentral contrast setting at 100 method work or not? I've seen a few people saying it doesn't and that they couldn't achieve anywhere close to those values that tft central did. It seems near impossible to figure out which one of the two the ZR24w vs Dell U2410 performs better in terms of contrast when the measured values in reviews differ so much

Did some more playing with settings and I now have this set at the best it has looked to date. Used my Spyder 3 Express with the settings below.

6500k
Brightness 40
Contrast 85
Sharpness 5

How do these differ from TFTCentral settings? I purchased one of the monitors from RocknRoll and he said his monitors used those settings. Should I give these a shot when I get it next week?

I tried them myself, didn't care for them. Much better to use a hardware calibrator, Bottom line is its needs to look good to you. I even tried the starting point of 100 contrast and 7 brightness, then ran my Spyder. I didn't like that at all. As with all settings used by someone else YMMV.

I will see how the settings are when my monitor arrives and may give these a try if it doesn't like right to me. Thanks for letting us know your setting Gump.... its always nice to have something to go on that others have found work for them.

I sent my 3 macmall rebates in yesterday, I have one dead pixel from the 3 monitors I bought so Im happy. Now I need to save up for a new video card and a colorimeter.
I started with the TFTCentral settings but all 3 are now at:
Brightness 0
Contrast 80
R 142
G 168
B 144

I sit at the computer a majority of the day so I normally set brightness low. Pictures look good to me and Im not doing photo editing so again I'm happy.

Thus far I prefer the sRGB(6500K) preset with contrast = 85, brightness = 10. I tried both the TFTC custom color settings, the first was too dim/dull and v2 resulted in wonky color. Until I decide to pick up a calibration tool I'm happy running with these.

Got mine 2 weeks ago and deposited last week :) $300 for THE best 24" IPS LCD monitor out there right now (not incl the original NEC 2490)...not bad at all!

Just received all 3 of mine... though I paid $330 per, still not bad at all :)

I decided to try out the Display port connection over DVI. It seems that text is better now, things just appear a little sharper over all.

i don't get it how you americans get it for 300$, here in eu it's 350€, which is 450-500$..

just got it off ebay. 348 shipped so I'm pretty pleased. It really does look great and gaming has been great, no obvious input lag or ghosting to speak of. Only problem is 2 dead pixels on the left of my screen. I called HP but got a message that there was "an emergency situation"! keep an eye out on the news for burning HP call centers haha.

Received all 3 yesterday. Couldn't be happier, no dead pixels, all look great, maybe I got lucky. Only complaint is that I paid more than I should have for them, didn't see the sale price on MacMall until after I ordered mine from TigerDirect. Now I just need to complete my new workstation build.

Got mine sitting here at the UPS in my town, gotta wit till Monday for it arrive. I got it from a user on the Forums for $250 plus shipping. One thing nice is though its used it verified 100% with no major tint issues or backlight bleed, already calibrated, and zero dead pixels. That the one major upside to used it that it has been used and I know there are no issues.

Cant beat it for the price that's for sure!

I think I'm sold on this monitor, just spent a while reading up reviews and comparisons, and this seems quite nice.

Is there any place in particular someone can recommend I look to buy one? I've found locations, but not sure of what would be best or any current or up coming sales.

I don't know if Amazon is the best place to buy this monitor from, but that's where I got mine from. Free shipping + no tax + perfect condition monitor = win in my book.

This may seem like an odd question, but how deep into the bezel is the panel set on these monitors? I mean the distance between the front of the bezel and the actual panel surface. Don't ask why I need this, you don't wanna know ;)

A full 1/4 of an inch to the approximately 45 degree bevel on the bezel, and another 1/16 of an inch on the bevel itself. 5/16 of an inch total.

Well I just got my zr24w from amazon and I have a red pixel stuck in the middle of the screen, but it only shows on light colored backgrounds. I ran the stuck pixel program and it is still there, what should I try now? Call HP or return to amazon and risk not getting another because they are out right now.

Sometimes you can massage stuck pixels and fix it.

anyone have any solid, reference, numbers I can use for the zr24w's input lag? If so, I can more accurately compare monitors to the zr24w. I searched this thread and forum, but failed to find specifcs, although I didn't check very carefully.

The closest I found was tftcentral's between 10-20ms, (avg. 10ms), input lag number, but they don't disclose their methods fully, and just say they're using clone-mode on a gfx card.

Just got one of these. The monitor looks so much nicer in person than it does in photos. Coming from a PVA monitor, the blacks are better than I expected them to be. Not as deep as the PVA screen when compared side to side but it's a non issue for me. Also, wow, a 24" 1920x1200 monitor is so much bigger than the 23" 1920x1080 one that I returned. Small difference on paper, huge difference in practice. I don't regret paying more for 16:10 one bit.

Excellent uniformity, no buzzing, no tinting problems that I can see, no backlight bleeding aside from IPS glow which again, from normal viewing distance is fine for me. Don't have a problem with anti glare coating/sparkle either. Hell, my PVA actually looks worse in that regard and I thought it only plagued IPS screens!

Now the bad news. There are no stuck pixels but I think I have one dead subpixel in the top right corner. About 15cm from the right edge there is something that looks more like a speck of dust actually. My camera sucks and so do my picture taking skills so this is the best I could do:

Does this look like a dead pixel? In person, it looks like a tiny dark spot but it doesn't appear to be rectangular shaped and it looks like it spans diagonally across two pixels or subpixels. Really not sure what to make of it. If I look for it from a normal working distance, I can notice it. Otherwise no. Would you guys send this one back considering everything else is perfect, to my eyes at least? I'm afraid I could end up with one with tinting problems and even worse, stuck pixels that are even more noticeable :( Opinions?

It's probably a debris stuck inside the screen. Hit your desk very hard and it may go. At least that worked for me.

That's indeed what it is. I hit my desk and nothing happened. Then I tapped the top of the monitor, not too hard, and the "dead pixel" has now moved 5-6cm down the screen! I tried it a couple of times more and it seems like it's stuck again :( Any other tips how could I get this debris to fall off to one of the edges of the screen? I'm afraid hitting my desk/tapping the monitor too many times may cause damage to the screen.
