Chiller's Hybrid Level 10

Woah lol, didn't even wait for it to be finished before you cracked that out aye?

It was a hard thing to say, I grant people that. However, you can't mix those two design concepts without a clash. I sought further opinions. I know an award winning artist and my brother is gay. Both said what was happening was making it worse and that the shiny plexiglass with metal screws and hard edges does not go with the smooth rounded and "satin" finish of the original design. My brother said it looked like Satan vomited.

It's like placing a Ferrari front end on the body of a Rolls Royce. Both are great by themselves, but together they look ridiculous.

This does cause me pause to say because a lot of hard and meticulous work is going into this. Perhaps the finished product will be OK. I doubt it.

Perhaps if the original framing were used to cover over the screws, hmmm.

haha i like the fact that your brother is gay so he automatically knows whats best. :D you and they definitely have a point. it is a weird combination, but lets see how it looks in the final product. it is kind of a shame to put a solid shell over an SR-2 and quad 480s dont you think? so between clear and opaque plexi, i think a colored opaque would look better, and red is definitely the color with all that sleeving etc. give it a chance. :)

This may be a stupid question, But why go with the x5550 cpus instead of the i7 970 or for that matter even the 950 or 960? The i7's out perform the x5550 and even have better specs. So I just don't see the advantage of buying the xeons.

xeons support dual socket boards. he doesnt have a choice if he wants to put a proc in both sockets.

Well, let's just say he has an eye for design. Watch TLC and their decorator shows; I challenge anyone to find the straight decorator.

However, why not cut windows out of the existing shells, but leaving the sleek shape and frame? Thin red Mylar could have been used for the windows as it bends. You can get clear Mylar in satin finishes, but even glossy would work if not so obvious. The edges or frame of the old design could have remained. You'd get your windows and still keep the curves and design of the original.

When did this become "A Queer Eye For The PC Guy"?
Stop trolling and wait till it's finished.

Oh, I get it. Only positive comments are allowed when such a project is posted on a public forum. If criticism (positive or negative) is not desired, then why post? What, does everyone now get "participation trophies?"

Listen, the guy is using a very expensive already magnificent work of art as his base. To say someone is "trolling" when they see someone cutting into such a thing and bolting on cheap plexiglass and aluminum screws, is misguided. I'm going to pipe up. This isn't some aluminum or sheet metal box that can only be improved no matter what you throw at it. This is already a work of art. As such, if you're going to modify it, then it had better be an improvement, or at least on par with the original.

This is the same thing as placing a cheesy homemade wooden "spoiler" on the tail of a Corvette with wood screws, and painting it all with ordinary satin paint with a brush. Someone needs to call foul.

Relax, man! All I'm saying is that we wait until it's finished. If you still don't like, it's ok to voice your opinion. Hell, I might not like then, but at least I waited to see the finished product.

Also, your opinion does not need to be quantified by your artist friend or your brother. We'll ( maybe just me) respect your opinion and respectfully counter it.

But please wait until he's done with it.

Oh, and the Corvette thing is funny. I actually saw a car (Chevy Cavalier) with a wooden spoiler that was finished with polyurethane in Port Jervis, NY. :D

Gratz on miking the Front Page!!!

Gotta be honest. Dont like the overall looks of the Case. But the work that went into it is amazing. The wiring and home made 90deg connectors, top notch, and the other details are [H]ard.
Thumbs up!

Front page where ???

edit : found it : http://www.hardocp.com/news/2010/10/27/maniacal_mod_day/

thats really sweet man. quite possibly the [H]ardest mod ive seen yet! i wonder though, how much do you think youve spent on sleeving so far? :) also, how come you decided to go with plastic barbs instead of metal compression fittings or metal barbs? it seems like plastic barbs look cheaper and are more prone to leaks.

Because with this cooling i go sub-ambient, and there fore using as little as possible metals parts where can show condensation on.

Also plastic isolates also a little bit, therefore the cold in the special tubing will be kept as good as possible.

( industrial norprene tubing is use, they isolate also)

the details make me crazy, because i'm now already three days busy with sanding and painting until every flow is out of the alu plate, that the paint is perfect on the alu plates.

putting the isolation on the backplates of mobo, with the inox backplates :

And this is how the case is on this moment, also fitted a 16x2 red/black lcd above the Boreas chiller.
Also you see now how hidden the ATX24pin really is, pure cable management with the 90° connectors :
