Catalyst 10.10 Released

Forgive me for not investigating the posting history of every person I reply to on a message board with 100,000+ posters.

The underlying point is that you really need to lay off the condescension.

I think the biggest performance improvement would happen by uninstalling.:D

haha. well 60 days free trial going... ive already paid for the game so i might as well go till then :p (or gran turismo 5 finally comes out )

Sure that or Fallout 3: New Vegas comes out...ohh wait, it already did and now I have no reason to continue playing FF1.4 (I love that joke that its almost as bad as FF1 in terms of the battle system, interaction, fun etc. I think if I was playing FF1 or 2 remakes/emulation, I'd receive about the same enjoyment as FF14 which is ironic considerin how much older FF1 is.

In other news, I wouldn't mind having better FF14 performance either form these drivers. I'm running it currently off a single 5870 at 1650x1080 in windowed mode(so I can look up crafting information, etc) and it runs fairly well but I still can't turn on more than 2xaa, have to leave DoF off and a few other options like occlusion ambience(or something like that were light bounces off game objects to provide layers of lighting). IE. The light from a toch or spell bounces off a shiny shield to cause more lighting/brightness to appear in a reasonable-range from the shield. Personally, I'm not sure how much of that is 'The game is future-designed so it keeps looking better on the next-next-generation of video cards' and how much of that is 'coding for the graphics was done by the same people who created the award-winning ultra-quick UI!(/sarcasim tag)'

Also, anyone who cancelled their 30 day trial, you can refresh your free trial and get the remaning time the 60 day extension free according to a SE email they sent out today. I've got to say though, I think, SE is trying to trap players with the 'Ohh gee, I've invested 300 hours in this game, I can't just abandon it b/c the ui sucks, the gameplay is boring, the graphics are semi-stale and repetitive, lifeless environments, guildleves limited to 8 per 36 hours, nothing to do outside guild leves except hopeless grinding the same marmots and/or crabs or crafting and who cares of from lvl 10 to lvl 33 I've been stuck questing in bloodshore or right next to bloodshore and have leveled from 10 to 33 in CH. Seemingly one of the few dungeons with decent exp. I can't give up this crappy game. I've invested 300 hours over these free 60 days hoping I'd reach the 'fun' part of the game? which presumably must be end-game since prior to end-game fun is not the correct adjective at all.

i installed the 10.10 drivers,so far no problems at all.ive only tried l4d2 on them so far,and it plays great.msi hawk 5770 here.

Has anyone made the jump to 10.10 from a much earlier revision and can comment on how stable or otherwise the move has been? i've been running 10.4 for around 5 months and it's been pretty solid, but thinking it might be time to update. Also, is it necessary to get the 10.10a hotfix installed on top of the 10.10 WHQL release or is the main driver release enough? Thanks

I have been asking the same question since 10.8...How about BFBC2 in CrossFire? Have they finally fixed the CrossFire issues?

10.10 beta working great here on my 4850 crossfire...I'll give bc2 a chance tonight

I am new to ATI Drivers, as I was a Nvidia person for nearly 20 years.
Do I need to download the 10.10a also?

No. AMD hotfix releases just contain features or fixes that weren’t ready when they submitted the drivers for WHQL certification a few weeks ago. Unless they specifically address an issue you’re having, then you don’t need to use the hotfix, and you can stick with the WHQL version.

10.9 in BFBC2 were great.

I had issues installing 10.9, getting BSODs. Then I used Steam to install 10.9 and it worked great. Going to use Steam from now on to install drivers.
They do a good job at cleaning out the old drivers and replacing the necessary files.

Is that a generally recommended method now? installing direct from Steam rather than removing and installing yourself?

I had a better experience installing it from Steam. Many others will continue to install them manually but for me this is the best way to go.
It's idiot proof.

What was your setup at the time? I ask because your hardware list shows a 6870.

hmm how's crossfire performance?

I still get the same results with Starcraft II. What's weird, though, is that on a couple of the maps, I mostly get horrible frame rates (30 - 40), but on a few, very rare occasions, I get way above 60 fps on those same maps. This hasn't changed from 10.9 to 10.10. It's like crossfire mostly doesn't work on those maps, but on a few, rare occasions, crossfire kicks in and works. I don't get it....

Thanks!

I had the 5970 until last week. The load time is super quick compared to other drivers, usually among the first in map. Crossfire performance was excellent with 10.9 profiles.
10.5a is slow compared to 10.9.

Preliminary reports suggest that 10.10 is having the same performance problems for 4xxx cards in CF (at least for BFBC2). These are the same problems seen in the 10.5 to 10.9 drivers. However, the 5xxx cards might be ok.

I have not personally installed the drivers on my 4870x2 CF build, and I have no intention in doing so. I think I will stay with the 10.5a hotfix for now.

As a 4870 X2 owner, I've had bad luck with every driver after 10.5. That includes 10.9A, the so called hotfix drivers for the 4870 X2. That driver fixed the issue were the second GPU would not go to 3D speeds. However after exiting DX10 games, the second GPU would get stuck at 3D speeds (an issue seen many times with earlier drivers too).

So 10.9A wasn't such a hotfix for my 4870 X2.

That said, I gave the 10.10 drivers a try. I briefly tested a handful of DX9 and DX10 games. For the most part I was just looking at the GPU clock speeds with GPU-Z running on a second monitor. Wanted to see if the 3D speeds would engage for both GPUs and after exiting the game, the 2D speeds would come back.

World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, GRID, Crysis, and Lord of the Rings Online.

In all those games, both GPUs behaved normally. Both went to 3D speeds in games, and went back to 2D speeds after exiting.

Also I had another issue with 10.9A in Starcraft 2. I would get random stuttering. I played the same map that I had the stuttering issue in before and didn't have the problem with 10.10.

So far, I'm cautiously optimistic with the 10.10 drivers with my 4870 X2. It seems like this might be the first usable driver for me since 10.5A.

so if I got this right there are huge usability improvements aka cfx works in more games more of the time now?

what about this new adaptive 6xxx only AA?

Morphological AA is a post-processing feature. Means there's no specific hardware added to 6xxx cards, so it can be back ported to earlier cards. CatalystMaker has stated that it's coming to the 58xx cards soon. In fact, there's a hacked driver that already has it, but I haven't tested it.

this is good to hear, I'll add my two cents to cfx perf when I get my box up.

I've got dirt2, MOH on the way, darksiders, SC2, BFBC2 on the way, etc... if anyone with 5xxx cards in cfx wants to know. I'll test those.

kk if my cpu comes on saturday I'll do my best to let you guys know.

You have to use 10.9a Hotfix for 4870x2 cards and other 4000 dual gpu configurations.

Didn't work for me.

Do you have BFBC2. If you do give it a try. It seems to be a litmus test for performance issues.

Dumb question, but does the hotfix include the latest CCC? If I want both the control panel and the hotfixed driver, do I install 10.10 first, then 10.10a over it?

Anyone else got MAA working?

I've got it working on my 5850 and it is pretty damn sweet. Just tried Half Life 2 and Medieval Total War. 8x AA with virtually no performance hit is awesome. Only thing is text looks a bit ugly.

I'm thinking this will be awesome for people running eyefinity as you can get 4x-8x AA at virtually no performance cost.

The underlying point is that you really need to lay off the condescension.
My apologies, I get tired of reading the same drivel at Guru3D all the time and I assumed you were just ill-informed. Every time drivers come out people scream about why some game that was released 2 days before doesn't work / isn't in the patch notes or whatever. It's obnoxious.

I wonder if developers can tell the shader which screen elements are UI and not to use MAA on them...

Any smart people in this thread think this could happen?

When I've done graphics programming I always render the UI elements last to avoid this very issue. This may be an out of date approach, but if they did it that way they could write it in a way to only use MAA on non-UI elements.

You thought we were all noobs? Assumptions make asses out of everyone. What we usually complain about is broken items and usually CFX not working all that well in games

Catalyst 10.10 breaks Hardware Accelerated Encoding with the latest Cyberlink MediaShow Expresso, so I just went back to 10.9 with the latest App profile

Use 10.10a (the hotfix driver). Many reviewers used that one and tested Cyberlink MediaShow Expresso with it, so it works. :)
