Right now my rig has 4 x 512mb sticks of Corsair Value RAM. I'm interested in swapping out two of those sticks for two 1 GB PNY RAM, upgrading from 2 to 3 GB RAM. What happens if I add the PNY RAM and use my current settings?
I don't know what the specs are on the PNY RAM since it came off a great deal on Craigslist (along with an Opteron 185, a premium 939 Asus SLI mobo, a monster HSF, and two other 1 GB sticks now in my wife's rig for $75).
After talking to a Corsair tech guy a couple years ago, we determined that I would need to run at these settings (otherwise Unreal Tournament 2004 would crash after a few minutes):
RAM Voltage: 2.8v
RAM Frequency: DDR 333
CAS# Latency: 2.5
Min RAS# active time: 7
RAS# to CAS# delay: 3
Row percharge Time: 3
1T/2T memory timing: 2T
Rest set to defaults/auto.
Would it be OK to add the PNY RAM and keep the same settings? What's the worst that could happen? Could I fry the RAM if the 2.8v is too high for it?
