Motorola Terminator - Dual-Core - Early 2011

I wouldn't be surprised if the info on this is wrong and its not the phone but the tablet. If it was going to hit first part of next year we would have tons of code names for it by now. Also Motorola has typically with their cells given multiple names and internal numbers to the different carrier options. That might not happen in made for all LTE/Wifi Tablet.

oh just when wp7 was launched and what a surprise moto don't have a single wp7 phone? sounds fishy?

They were never big supporters of WinMo, was the last to the Smartphone playing field in general. Their Android offering has been a big boon for for a struggling manufacturer, I am not sure they are comfortable turning their efforts away from that.

If it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader I'll ignore the Moto Terminator no matter how nice it is.

Moto has had some success due to verizon's droid line, otherwise you can see the full line of motofail .

What would this mean to batter life

This will very likely drive battery life further into the toilet. Consumers have recently proven that they are extremely tolerant of horrible battery life as long as they get a big screen, a pile of features, and some whiz bang speed.

Who cares if you need a charger at work, one in the car, and one at home just to be able to use your phone when you want

While i agree with what your saying, im hoping that with all this new hardware comes software to manage the battery life. If they can manage the processing load efficiently enough, then in theory, a 2gb dual-core wouldn't take any more battery than a current single core...perhaps even less if it can clock the cpus down to only whats needed in real time...ahh, to dream... :)

The sad thing is the technology is already there for better battery life. Those with rooted phones and SetCPU or specialized scripts already make use of it. Simply having a CPU that ramps up and down as necessary saves tons of battery life. I don't understand why companies don't have their phones doing even modest ramping as that will save battery life.

This might be the phone to finally pry my original Moto Droid from my hands. I can only hope they stick to a Droidish design so it has a slide out keyboard. As much as I like Swype, there's no replacement for a physical keyboard, esp. when I have a game gripper that's awesome for (emulated) games.

I guarantee it will be locked. I haven't read about any more Android phones having unlocked bootloaders since I got my Droid. Isn't it the last one? I know it is at least for Motorola. I don't think it matters much anymore though anyways. It hasn't stopped (just delayed) custom ROMs being made for the Droid X.

Oh I'm with you. I believe it'll be locked. I'll stick with my Droid until it dies at this point.

Custom ROM's mean jack and shit to me if I can't update the kernel to go along with it. Kernels from Chevy, P3Droid, or some other modder are far better then the stock kernel. Lower voltage, higher performance, better overclocking options, and true CPU temp monitoring just to name a few.

I would love to stick with my Droid too. But I'm afraid by the time this phone comes out, I'll be about due for a NE2 upgrade, Gingerbread will be out and even though I'm sure devs will port it to the Droid, it's (now) measly 256 MBs of RAM will interfere with its performance on it. If I could somehow solder an extra 256 MBs of RAM and about 8 GBs of internal storage to my Droid, then it would be the perfect phone, hah. I'm already starting to get tired of constantly trying to manage my internal memory and trying to speed the phone up to get rid of the random launcher re-draws it does due to running out of RAM.

I hear you on the kernel too. I'm running Chevy's ULV 1.1 GHz kernel on my Droid and it does a lot for performance and a little for battery life. But given the specs of this new Terminator, it kind of negates the need for all of that. The only thing you're really sacrificing is maybe battery life without a LV kernel. But if it somehow uses the same type of batteries as the Droid and D2 or if batteries are less than $10/piece (I got 2 of those for my Droid when they were $1.23/piece, hah), then that helps a bit too.

So for me it really just comes down to root. I'm sure it'll be rooted relatively quickly as all other moto phones have been. I will definitely require that so I can have free wireless tethering, LED Hacks (for my bedside clock) and get rid of all the bloatware I'm sure will come on it.

On the hardware side, I just hope it doesn't stray far from a D2 form factor, though it sounds like it will.
