Starcraft II

wow, how did IGN give Civ V the same rating as SC2

as far as i am concerned, these games are on two different playing fields.

ugh i would have expected a max civ would get would be a 7

Godamned Zero Hour. Need the destroy 4 hatcheries on hard acheivement to get the Adjutant icon, everything else was easy, just this one is causes me too many problems. I have about 35 marines and 7 medics, they run out and get eaten straight away. Is there a trick to it?

what must you have to be able to play teams game and run the game smoothly. my rig is in sig and i play with everything mostly on ultra a few things on high. and if i play 2v2 3v3 4v4 and we do a big battle talk about lag. juss think 4v4 max food in a big battle lol.

Ive had no problems using the secondary rig (9000 series core2 quad back at @ 2.8 stock slightly OC GTX260 and 4gb DDR2) in 8 player battles. My teammate who uses a Mbp (I know..) has constant problems with slowdown. You could just drop a few settings, especially shadows, lighting and shaders for the big online battles.

Thanks. That makes more sense. I was going with a huge single attack and then propelling it forward. Ill try it later!

That can work too. Just build up until there's 7-8 minutes remaining, and just steamroll a few bases. Start from the west base (I think there's 3 hatcheries) and the go northwest to pick off the last one.

It kind of worked, I went left though...big mistake. Need more terran practice. I can do zerg and protoss fine, I just get stuck doing zerg building methods, which don't work too well with terran. I'm going to do this.

Eh? Left is west... The northeast is where things are really deadly.

Get some 4 or so bunkers filled up at the northeast choke of your base and like 3+ SCVs around for repairs. You'll never have to worry about it from then on. Then just build up a massive ball of marines on the western choke until the 7-8 minutes remaining. You should be able to obliterate the western base by then.

edit: Don't forget medics too. I can't remember if you get medics by then, but I'm pretty positive you do.

edit2: Just replayed the stage on hard. The base I'm talking about is actually southwest on the minimap, but you have to approach it from the middle west. You can also pick up a few stranded units there too. Go from the southwest base to the northwest one.

I'm pretty sure if you're having trouble with zero hour it's because you didn't saturate your minerals. I found that it was pretty trivial to get the achievement as I cleared the entire map with loads of money to spare.

Make sure you have 1.5x scv's per patch asap... you don't need to build much off the bat so just concentrate on saturation first then concentrate on building enough barracks to use the money. It will go a long way later.

Incidentally, if anyone wants a 2v2 partner hit me up Weazmeister 332.

Something weird happened. I just got the "hot shot" achievement after a 2v2 random game. However I'm like 100+ games in already in 2v2 random, lol?

Anyone getting ties when bnet is lagging? I got my 2nd tie recently when bnet froze. It basically counts as a loss, but there is no game info, shows up as an error when you want to look at the game details.

I'd better take a break from Reach and play SC2 before they nerf the hell outa my beloved Void rays. Stop fucking bitching void haters, if your spending alot of resources on a unit, it should be ultra powerful compared to cheap units, otherwise, whats the fucking point?

Starcraft online virgin players are some of the bitchiest people on the planet I swear to God. Right next to MMO players.

Carrier rushing is fun.

Have you watched Day9's Funday Monday segment recently? He challenged players not to expand until a Carrier starts building. Some great games he showed off, including a couple wins from Huk, a top level toss player in North America.

If someone doesn't scout and or scan your base and then is surprised when VR's show up...That's like saying MMM couldn't possibly coming at me going up against a T.

Speaking of Funday Monday, I was trying this week's challenge (play as Terran and don't use Marines, Marauders, or Tanks), and boy was it rough. Against Protoss they just scout me and see that I have no Marines so they Void Rays, which is like an instant loss. You pretty much NEED Vikings if you aren't allowed to have Marines.

I did win one game against Zerg by going mass Hellion though, but it wasn't a very good game so I won't bother sending it in.

I still think Void rays fully charged are just too buff. If anything that final charge needs to either take longer to achieve or not do as much damage.

In large groups they are also super powerful mainly because at least a few of them will get that final charge.

Of course. Where do you think I learned how much fun carrier rushing can be? :)

Yep, a void ray nerf is probably the most requested nerf by players. They are the most imba unit in the game, having the cost and quick access of a tier 2 unit but outclassing tier 3 units.

You have to realize how fragile, expensive, and slow they are

Any good player who scouts and sees it coming should have no reason to lose against it

Yep, Day9 went over void ray rushes briefly in the Newbie Tuesday episode. If you see a really tiny force of zealots in front of the base, it's probably a red flag for void ray rushes.

People also tend to forget how much the opponent doesn't have when going for extremely costly strategies like that.

IdrA lost to it ;)

Personally I think void rays need to be reworked. They're a little too black and white right now.

The higher you go in divisions the worse void rays get... but the fact of the matter is that in a game with your average SC2 player, void rays are extremely strong. The same goes for builds like MMM. I don't see blizzard nerfing void rays simply because they're 'viable yet stoppable' at higher levels of 1v1.

While I agree with this statement, then please rationalize why the nerfed the Battlecruiser for Terran? Its our highest tech unit, costs the most, and it still got nerfed!

I am a diamond level player. I play Protoss myself and yet I still think they need to be nerfed. For 1v1 they are not as bad, but for 2v2 and up sometimes 3-4 of them can win the game even if properly scouted. The main reason is they are strong against Zerg since zerg has no aa at tier one other than the queen. As a toss player I usually have no problems countering void rays with phoenix and stalkers.

I just think that the fully charged form is one of the strongest units in the game. Yes they are slow but have you seen the void ray with the speed upgrade? They fly fast. And yes I know no one really gets that speed upgrade.

I have to disagree with your reasoning. The game shouldn't be balanced based on 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4 games. This is still primarily a 1v1 game. I also play Protoss and see no reason to nerf them based on the facts that they are 1. glass canons 2. initially very slow 3. weak against cheaper t1/t2 units.

Agreed peter, the other part of it is, "zerg has no aa tier one" ...this really doesn't matter unless he's stuck on producing tier1 period.

For terrans, marines (stimpack) +medivac + thors = a lot of fun :p

Void rays are fine just the way they are. The #1 terran strategy of MMM completely destroys void rays. not to mention so does an equal number (or even less #) of vikings and you can use a reactor on them. Zerg Mutalisks kill void rays and they spawn from hatchery. They are fast to get also.

Comparing Tiers is retarded. Tier 1 marines kill T3 carriers. Dont compare Tiers

QFT.

I'll also reiterate what Day 9 says about counters found in the SCII help guide Blizzard provides. I'm paraphrasing here. The "counters" sheet is total bullshit given the right circumstances.

Just because unit A was designed to be strong against unit B doesn't mean unit A wins by default.

Honestly, I believe the main issue is map design. I don't like the fact a player can easily choke a pathway with 2-3 structures. It just encourages turtling and straight teching with minimal harassment

I personally think the tiny 1v1 map chokes are ridiculous. I don't mind chokes, but goddamn, 2 buildings?

Some of the MP maps have more reasonable chokes. I think chokes should honestly look like those.

It's funny, I almost never use the ramp chokes for anything.
