Top 12 PC Games of All Time

I am disappointed in all of you. No mention of Descent. 1994, multiplayer, full 3d environment(granted, use of 2d sprites, but the environment was 3d). If anything was a pioneer, it was Descent.

Agree. That series of games were all VERY good, except.. There was one after 3 that was a space thing. It was very buggy and I never got it to work properly in multiplayer. Other than that, yes.

I have been PC gaming for at least 8 years now, and that list is a joke made by someone who has barely any experience in PC gaming.

.............MAFIA 2??!?!?!!? Ahahahaha, what a joke there.

...........No half-life (and mods)??!?!?!? Insanely inaccurate! Over 50,000 people at any given time of the day are playing OLD ASS COUNTER-STRIKE (which should be #1, or #2 on the list)

That's just sad... what a lame attempt at making a list.

Well, they got at least one of them right. MYST.

I wish the entire series would be fully updated and re-released for play on today's large displays and graphics capability.

I remember 20 years ago when Myst first came out. You could actually log on to Compuserve and have long, interesting conversations with Robyn and Rand Miller, the creators.

Astonishing for the time, they had some 25 high-end Mac's rendering graphics 24 hours a day to create the game.

Monopoly and Reader Rabbit? Hahaha. I expected to see a few games I didn't agree with but damn, I didn't expect something that far off

How on earth did they select this list anyway?

It wasnt metacritic scores, that's for sure, and it can't have been sales either.

While I know my views on games are different than most, the only two I agreed with on that list were half Life 2 (though the original was more groundbreaking) and Civilization.

How can you have a list like this, without at least mentioning one of the incarnations of Quake?

So much fail, it's almost a win. If I had this article in print, I'd keep it. Lots of laughs at the selection.

Hey, I loved Descent too- but it's not an Top 12 All-Timer by any stretch of the imagination. (top 50) There's a reason why they don't make 720-degree of motion FPSs anymore. 3 guys can play it, the other 97 are vomiting due to the motion sickness.

What a total failure, I wonder what her mailbox is going to look like once this spreads around a bit more.

True, but a lot of these "best games" lists don't rate purely based upon popularity but also how groundbreaking the game is.

I think it's almost impossible to boil the entire history of PC gaming down to a list of twelve games. You'd need to list at least 50 to really cover just the bases. Descent would make a Top 50 list — easily — but I don't know if it would fall into a Top 12.

A top 12 games list would have to be things that are innovative in their own right.

I could see an argument for something like the following:

Castle Wolfenstine or Doom Series- Fathers to modern FPS

Crysis - Epic Graphics

Myst Series - Epic Puzzle

Kings Quest Series - Common, it's kings quest

Epic Pinball - If you were around back then, you'd understand.

X-wing/Tie Fighter or Wing Commander - Pick your Poison

Warcraft/Star craft series - One of the best RTS out there.

Sims Series- Not my favorite, but deserves a spot

Unreal tournament might get a mention.

Diablo series has to get a mention.

WoW or Everquest would have to get an MMO mention.

but actually rating those games in some meaningful order. Or even picking between castle wolfenstine vs Doom, I don't have a clue how you could pick one.

MONKEY ISLAND!! or better yet, ANY of the Lucas Arts games, I dont think they ever created a bad game

^^ This, some really good games indeed.

I would add the Wizardy series to the list as well. Crusaders of the Dark Savant is infinitely playable still :p

I liked Pinball Dreams (1992), Pinball Fantasies (1992) and Pinball Illusions (1995) . I never played (or heard of) Epic Pinball. They all seem to have come out at about the same time though, which is pretty funny.

It came out in late 1993. It should be avaliable on the net as the first "table" was shareware. There 12 total tables, 13 if you had the original CD. Give it a google, and a download. It's got staying power for a game of it's age.
