LOTRO f2p starts on Sept 8th and 10th

So can you add the key to your current account if you buy this? Why not just buy a bunch of copies to get cheap VIP for 90 cents a month or am I missing something here?

1 key for 1 account at the end of the 30 days you will have to either re sub or play under premium. But to answer your question yes you can play vip for .90 a month but you will have to make a new account each month :)

$16.90 for 60 days
I bought one on Tuesday and they called to verify and emailed within 5 minutes.

Even if you are planning to do the 'premium' version buying the content it's still worth getting at least a month sub because it unlocks all of the bags, all of the traits, and the gold limit on all of the characters that you log in on during that month. In addition, you also get 500 points a month for every vip month. So, for $16.90 you get 1000 tp and all of the above as well as vip access for 2 months.

those bags and traits will lock back up after your time runs outs fyi

just started this game its pretty fun. Is there any level limit for being a free player?

you thought it was ALL free? ;) This is what you would call the hook. At about lvl 20 you either start paying up if you like the game, lvl another toon to 20, or make due knowing that as a f2p player you will have a more limited game experience.

Turbine knows there will be alot of players that don't like the model and that's fine, but on the other hand they know from their DDO experience that alot will buy into this system if they like the game, and they will make a profit.

DDO doesn't require non-VIP to pay for hourly passes just to use modes of transportation or movement between major areas either.

Sure, I can buy dungeons in LOTRO.. and either KEEP paying for the means to get there in a reasonable time, or spend forever running from zone to zone.

The restrictions between DDO Premium and LOTRO Premium could not be farther apart.

Not according to their faq.

hmm seems they will let u keep the bags but traits arnt listed and forums seem to think the traits go back to 2.

doesnt make much sense pay for 1 month get those features cheaper then buying seperate.

Has anyone noticed the "dynamic layers" in this game? I started a toon with a friend, we got up to lvl 5 and quit for the night. The next night we logged in and spent 45 min trying to get ourselves in the same dynamic layer, moving around, logging in and out, no luck. We made a fellowship, and the non-leader would click that little button in the lower right but after the "teleport" we still couldn't see each other. How on earth does Turbine expect people to get into an MMO where they can't join up with their friends?

LOL, I was expecting the same problem with my friend when we started our new toons, but it put us right to the right layers. It was crazy busy too, but 2 different toons, two different areas, ended up just being on the same layer.

.

Can some one explain this?
after level 20 the game isnt free?

Basically, it will force you to buy quest packs in order to continue and advance in the game... I don't like that system, I'd rather just pay monthly...

Out of all the F2P mmos, I wish someday EA/Mythic will make DAoC F2P. Come on!

After level 20, you have to either pay for a subscription or buy quest zone packs. Otherwise, you can still play for free above 20, but without any quests you'll have to just grind on mobs endlessly for very slow exp. The other totally free alternative is to make a bunch of alts, and keep leveling them from 1-20 and collecting points, then you can slowly earn enough free points in-game to pay for the quest packs. Basically, the two free alternatives are so slow and mind-numbing that you'll probably end up paying or quitting.

Same thing has been happening to us also. From what I saw on the LOTRO forums, the only way to be able to play with your friends for now is:
- not be in a starter area (impossible if you're starting a toon)
- hope to be lucky and find yourself in the same layer as your friend(s) as you log in.

myeah...

I like how you don't have to spend money to buy the expansion. So I used my points to buy the Siege of Mirkwood expansion. I stopped playing after the Moria exp. Anyways, last night I was trying to get into Mirkwood but don't know how to get there. I searched and it says something about completing a quest but does anyone know where or how to get into the new expansion area?

So I just signed up and there are no quests, do I need to buy those? If so then screw this.

Look for the gold rings over NPCs. They show up on the map too. The first time you should have to consider buying a quest pack is at L20.

Once you get to lvl 20 can you just buy a subscription and continue or are you forced to buy quest packs?

I played the game a while ago and wouldn't mind getting back in to it, but it'll prolly take me a month or two to get a few charcters up to lvl 20 and want to start paying, but I dont like the idea of buying quest packs.

I would have expected this but there aren't any in the starting town that I am in, right after the tutorial section. Is it just me?

if you buy 30 days of subscription (vip access) it unlocks all of the quest packs (and many other things) during that time. also when you are a vip you get stuff like more bags, when the vip time runs out you get to keep the bags.

right out of the tutorial you should have a couple quests available. do you have anything in your quest log? maybe you need to run inside a building and the ring icon on the map is being blocked by something else.

Even better, buy the original boxed game and use the code to get a month of play for about $1 or mines of moria for about $10 on quite a few places around the net.

I bought mines at the local microcenter and that has worked out great.

nothing in the quest log at all. Nothing in any of the buildings either.

FYI, if you play a human, elf or hobbit drop by Thorin's Gate. One of the quests you get there from the stable master gives you a token that lets you ride the horses for free for an hour, use it to ride to and unlock all the stable masters, much cheaper and smarter then spending Turbine Points to buy the swift travels.

The stat tomes only raise your core stats (of which there are 5) by 30 each, and it costs close to 6000 turbine points to do so. 30 is a pretty trival amount when the cap for these stats is 650, and many characters are already very close to the cap with their primary stat (like my hunter's agility, which is 636).

What I am using them for is to shore up some shortcomings. My hunter's in-combat power regeneration isn't as great as it should be, so I am adding all the Fate I can.

however they have been and will remain the biggest seller at the store so expect more character improving tomes in the next updates, furthering lotro down a shaky path

very good description of f2p with this game, its just a gimped demo

No not really. It's f2p after you buy all the content, which can be had for less than 30 bucks. The game has to stay afloat somehow. After that you can cancel the membership and still play everything sans PVMP.

Gimped demo...pfft. That's the worst description of the game to date.
