whats your power bill each month?

Here in AZ in summers I am typically around 200 a month with the a/c on most of the time for the wife and kids. But that also inlcudes the garage which has two Mig welders, a Tig, Plasma and Mill that get used fairly often.

My big 8 core PC (3 screens) does see a fair amount of use which I am sure adds to the cost along with the other 4+ PC's in the house (roommate, HTPC + TV, Kids PC, Wifes Laptop) so that is semi normal. To high in my books but until I can cut down I guess I have to live with it. In winter when A/C is not on Cost is 50-80/month

Havent broke $100 yet since i moved into my new condo in december...1700sq feet 2 bed + loft 2 stories.... running my i7 in the sig 24/7 and my AC set at 76... just got a new 16 seer ac though so i think if i had the old crappy 10seer unit that was there when i moved in originally it would be 100+

florida is summer year long pretty much so the ac is always at 76 no mater what season

How in the world can people be spending sub $50 on their electric bill? I think the lowest Ive ever seen my bill in the summer time was just under $200. and $125 ~ish in the winter. Granted the AC is grossly inefficient in my place and the sealing on the windows is terrible but good lord $15? $33? WTF!? Do we just have insanely high cost per KwH out here or something?

Guess I did have one high bill last year at $45.89, the highest one is for a period of 45 days.

Now what are the rent/mortgage costs for some perspective? Out here near Los Angeles, pay $1350 for a condo, 2 master bdrm/2.5 bath/2 car garage. Just an hour east, for the same price I could have a 4bdrm/3bath/3 car garage house.

I think you answered your own question man. Just few things like that add up, cool air escapes, warm air rushes in to take it's place, making your system run harder and/or longer. Combine this with low, or even worse: no, insulation in the attic and walls and you're looking at major $$$ just to stay barely comfortable.

$25 per month with 1 computer running 24/7 and 2 more on when Im using them. I started folding 24/7 so it will go up. As long as I keep it under I think 300KWh/month price per KWh isnt bad. After that it starts going up to $0.40+ which is crazy to me. Im in CA with no AC and I am good at turning lights off.

I guess it has more of an affect than I thought. The insulation is good however so its just the weatherstripping that is fail and the duct system wasn't designed well for the apartments layout.

Also my last bill seems to only have been $165 when I have been trying to keep the AC off when I can so I guess that is really what did it. which is good news for me since the new place is much better at cooling down so I can add more rigs without hurting the power bill after all, woot :D

Need to track down a bill so I can see how many KWh's im using..

Still... $17, thats just crazy.

*edit* check one of my bills, the one for $240 was 1400KWh. didnt think I was using that much lol, must be that fail AC system after all. Cause a later one was only 1100 when I was more conservative with the AC. Makes me feel a bit better about my b ill and hoping it wont be as bad at the new place. House fan ftw.

About $170 this month in CT with 2 computers running 24/7 and A/C; will probably be more this month as I added an always-on media center PC and a new Dell switch to the mix.

My equal billing right now is 90/mo but I have a feeling it's going to go up since I used the portable AC unit a lot this summer. I did mod it to make it more efficient though but only did that half way through. I also have a 4800w heater under my garage to keep that crawlspace from freezing up, the breaker is off now but I'll have to turn it on soon. It is set very low so only runs maybe once or twice per hour, for about 15 minutes. Thing is I don't really use all that much power, but it's the delivery charge that kills. My last bill:

746KWh
600KWh @ 6.5c $39.00
204 KWh @ 7.6c $15.30
total: $54.3

Delivery: $45.42 (almost half of the actual usage, wtf eh?)

[Other random misc charges]

Total: $125.11

I actually pay $90 because of equal billing though. I've seen some bills that are only $30 so at the end it somewhat evens out.

In NY about $75-80 in the winter and $110-120 in the summer (2 ACs, because you need them in 90 degree weather) The building itself heats up, so you dont have a choice, you need to turn on the ACs even if its nice outside. It's like being in an over :)

I have a slightly OCed PC/file server with 6 drives running 24/7.

$180 during the summer. $80 the rest of the year in a 1100Sf. apartment. Yay Las Vegas!

East Bay, California, tiny apartment, no air conditioning/heating, 1 relatively recent desktop (100w idle / 188w max on killawatt) + 21" screen (35-40w), 1 refrigerator - about 20$ a month.

It shows my avg daily temp as 60F lol, which is some perfect evidence how jacked my AC is.

I cut my bill in half to about $40 by moving into this small apartment. No room for a washer and dryer that I use like 4 times a week, my 47" tv cant fit in my bedroom so I cant just try to watch it plus be on the PC at the same time, and then these ceiling fans keep me from turning on the AC so much despite this 100+ So Cal weather.

My electricity bill is usually $80(ish)

I started transcoding videos last month... running CPU at full load for a couple of hours a day. Electricity bill this month was like $200!! Wife almost had a heart attack.

on average its around $150-200/month
but during the australian summer u can add 50% onto that price

which i guess is not too bad

When we lived in Temecula during the summers we used to have 750 ~ 1000/month electric bills. Dual air conditioning, 8 computers, 3500sq ft, plus 105 degree heat. On top of that due to Edison's BS we were being allocated the same electrical units as Newport Beach. Temecula has high high high temps during summer and low temps in winter, so our average yearly temp was about the same as NB, so we got billed the same way.

Now that we are back in Newport Beah, our bill is under 50/month, I don't run 8 systems though only 3, but don't use AC almost at all. 500ft from Ocean sure fixes that shit :p

For those with 500+ bills how do you manage to even afford that? That's like half my mortgage payment right there. Would be more cost effective to buy a giant wind turbine or something, when it gets to that point.

Around $150. Regular household items, 2 large LCD screens, 3 LCD monitors, 2 desktops, and air conditioning (cooling 1650 sq/ft).

desktops are left on 75% of the time.

having a well paying job ;) or probably by having roommates in some cases. Also cost of living varies greatly. for example my mortgage on the place I just bought is $775 +hoa fees per month and it covers everything except power and internet. so I could afford a $500 power bill if I had to :D

Before I bought my current house, I lived in a 100 year old farm house (~1,500 sq. ft.). As you can guess, the house was very, very leaky, so one bill was over US$900 (actually usage). Granted, that winter had 3 blizzards. My current house (5,993 sq. ft.) I get below US$200. That includes one computer, a plasma and my wife is home during the day.

around $150 but most of that is from our reptiles

when I was folding my power bill was the biggest thing holding me back from expanding and the primary reason I stopped, kinda sad when i think about it :(

BeavermanA; do you not have SmartMeters there yet? I suspect you are going to get a major surprise bump in cost with a SmartMeter. Everyone I know (in CA) that had outrageously cheap power now pays vastly higher amounts now that their meters actually work correctly

I didn't go back to see what you said you keep on, but it can't be much if those are really accurate reads.

I just moved into a new (to me) house, we're paying about $6/day for electricity and we dont keep any computers on because it was ~$10/day right off.

Island of Jersey in the UK and i'm paying £0.1228 per Kwh. My bill for the last quarter was £340 or just over £113 per month. usage is about 920Kwh a month at the moment. Thats with no heat/water.

Hopefully that will go down a lot in a couple of months time once our lodgers move out.

They were installed at my apartment complex in April 2010, and looking at the bills it looks as though my cost actually went down with the new meters.

Not sure if the condo I'm living in now has them, but just being in a bigger place, have a washer/dryer and electric garage door opener, gaming on a 58" plasma, my bill is now around $45/month.

19 cents a Kwh? OMG! I'm paying 8 cents, and I thought that was expensive enough.

Luckily my heating, stove, and drier are all natural gas which is really cheap in Texas, and since I don't need AC right now, my bill is about $65 a month (much more in the summer).

Luckily this is a brand new one story home built specifically to be extremely energy efficient, and its less than 2000sqft with CFL lighting throughout and just about everything I own is energy star. My gaming desktop is powerful, but I just use my netbook or my little Dell Zino HTPC from the couch most of the time unless I need to play games, do photoshop/premier work, etc.

My bill is around 150/mo or so. They added tiered billing, and HST, so the bills are higher now. Paying about 5 cents off peak and 10 cents on peak, or something like that. I have my workstation, server, and firewall as far as computers go, rest is consumer network equipment which hardly uses any power, then standard stuff like the fridge. Also have a 4800w heater under the garage but it's set very low so it turns on maybe once an hour for about 5-10 minutes.

Yeah, not cheap especially for a house that is 1100sqft & 24/7 folding on 2 rigs doesn't help. Fortunately heat & water are oil fired.

My electric bill is $40 a month during the winter and about $70 a month in the summer.

I have a high-powered desktop with a GTX 480 and a 4.2Ghz i7.
My TV is a Mitsubishi DLP projector with a 300watt bulb.

Those are the 2 main uses of my power other than the air conditioner and toaster/full oven and refrigerator.

My most recent power bill was $81 for 2 months (LADWP, which includes a 10% city tax). Everything is electric. That period included both a heat wave and a pretty cold spell. :p The highest bill I ever got was $110 (incl. 10% city tax) for 2 months.

Hooray for municipal power and moderate weather. :D Too bad that whole deregulation thing was a scam and most people saw their power rates spike instead of going down. Oops.

Heh,

Back when I lived alone (and my computer with my inefficent 22" CRT was on 24/7, my monthly power bill used to hover around $20. Just under during the winter, and just over in the summer, when I turned on my window AC.

Back then I didn't have a TV or really anything else that used much power though. This wasn't that long ago (~2005), and the KWH rates have not changed that much since then.

This is how I know my computer habit doesn't contribute overwhelmingly to the monthly bill.

Now that I live in a house with a Fiancé and two stepsons the power bill is about $150 during the average month.

I am constantly after the damned boys to turn off the lights they don't need, turn off TV's when they are not in the room and stop blasting the AC any colder than it needs to go, but those two are the most wasteful creatures on planet earth...

19 cents a Kwh? OMG! I'm paying 8 cents, and I thought that was expensive enough.

19.5 cents per KWH is about what we pay here in Massachusetts.

At 8cents per KWH that is among the cheapest power in the U.S.

As I recall last time I looked at it there was some state that paid 6.8cents per KWH, but I can't remember where that was. It's been a while.

IMHO, we would all be better off with more expensive power. It would make people think more about what they use and efficiency. If that happened we wouldn't need to spew as much of that nasty coal shit with heavy metals in it into the atmosphere....

um wtf you smoking we pay out the ass for power how it is in the summer my power bill is over $300 for 700sqft apt i pay over $100 a month for shit other then my power bill, its $50 a month for Katrina repairs still a $40+ fuel surcharge and like 10 to maintain the lines. so yea i use like 1000kw a month in the summer and pay 300-350 so fuck paying more, power should be dirt cheep

Wow! can't believe the complaints of people crying over $200 and under power bills. Better be lucky your not in Florida, damn Florida Power and GRU are notorious. My mom just informed me a cousin of mine just had a bill for $700!!!. Her kids are both of age and never home and she's on the go as well. Granted her house does have age, but there are too many stories I hear like this all the time.

Tbh my bill is like 1200-1500 a month.then again when you run an adult foster care home.....
And if thats not bad the heat bill is 2000,because fuel oil number 1. House was built a while ago and to damned expensive to switch to propane or geothermal..
