Worth the upgrade?

So with the Dell U2311H being on sale for $239 each, I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy two of them to upgrade from my current two monitors.

The ones I have now are the Samsung SyncMaster 226BW and the GatewayFHX2300.

I'm a bit tired of having two screens without matching resolutions, and that don't line up properly. Also, I'd love to get rid of this viewing angle problem with the TNs.

I could probably sell my two monitors for $200, more or less, so the upgrade would only cost me ~$300. And this would go along with a whole new updated rig I'm putting together.

Are the benefits of IPS worth the upgrade? I game a lot, and do some graphics work. And really enjoy good, crisp, strong picture.

Additionally, if I were to switch over to IPS, is the U2311H my best bet? I was initially wanting 16:10, but those are quite a bit more expensive, and also seem to be plagued with a couple more problems than the U2311H.

You're not going to be able to use two IPS monitors with a TN in the middle. You'll just hate looking forward.

I say you're going to have to get three U2311H's.

Now, while the price of these IPS monitors is simply amazing.. you're still getting less screen real-estate with a higher resolution.. which translates into worse performance and less immersion.

But your only other two options aren't that good.
The first is to get three 26-28" TN panels with the same 1080p resolution.
The second is to get three 27" IPS panels with the 1440p resolution, or better yet three 30" panels with 1600p resolution.

To decide, go look at an IPS panel. Then look at a 28" TN. Image whether you want a huge screen area with tons of immersion.. or something that doesn't make you puke when looking at it (personal problem). Needless to say, once you go IPS, you don't go back. And that can also be said for screen size.

So.. if you need anything else :)

I only have 2 monitors right now, not 3. So I'd be replacing those 2. I mean I'd be tempted to get 3, but that's a ton of money to be spending, along with a new $2,000 computer.

What I really want to do though is to go look at some IPS screens in person, but I really don't know where I'd be able to do that. I can't think of any stores that sell them.

your use of "p" attached to the vertical resolution is disturbing

I recently got rid of a pair of 226BW monitors and replaced them with two Dell 2209WA IPS screens. I didn't get a bump in size but just switching to IPS screens was a very worthwhile upgrade. If you're doing photo editing and gfx work, some modicum of color accuracy would be good.

That's adorable.

Everyone knows that 1600p refers to the 16:10 resolution, not 2830x1600.

Well, I thought everyone knew what p meant.

Anyways, as my 1440p CRT at work is a 5:4 AR I'll simply assume that's what your usage of 1440p meant.
