Vindictus (Mabinogi Heroes) f2p source engine action mmorpg

I have 1 to give out and may have a second once the friend gets back to me on whether he wants it or not.
 
I wish the east server wasn't down. Played for a few hours on west, got a hang of everything.
 
I LOVE the way this game looks. And that it has SO much potential. I am very much ready to grab some of the Micro transactions to help support development.
 
I really hope they roll out the other characters soon. I'm really, really not a fan of the Asian MMO "You're playing a character that has a name, not a class and is gender-locked" thing which usually leads to "You want to play as a Mage?Your avatar is a 10 year old girl!". However, this does seem to have a lot of potential as far as gameplay goes, so I'd be willing to get past that... but 2 characters are a little underwhelming for me. I hear the Korean version is up to either 7 or 14.

Edit: Unlike Turbine which gives you an overview about it - Nexon has decided to include the Pando Media Booster it seems without telling anyone. Don't forget to uninstall this later, manually.
 
I played it a little bit last night. The game looks like it has some serious potential - the combat system is awesome and the graphics are right up there with AoC. I don't really like how heavily instanced it is, though.

That is normal. Even Star Trek online has instances. And actually a crap ton of em considering every single mission and its parts is an Instance.

EVE online is about the only thing that has been able to break away from instancing and only at GREAT cost to them with hardware upgrades and development time.

Edit: Btw if anyone has an extra beta keys me like one plz Kthx :p

This isn't like that. It's more like DDO with how it's set up. You leave town and go to an instanced 'dungeon'. If there's no one in your group, there's no one in the instance with you. You fight on a linear path to an end boss, when you defeat him you respawn in town. There is no open world to go to.

Also, I never got my beta keys emailed to me. :(

The Korean version has 3 characters now, the 3rd being the caster Evie (which says coming soon in our version). In regards to gender locking this isn't really true. Most Asian (Korean MMOs) don't have gender locks, however "action" type ones do. This from what I understand is as much of a development/technical issue then by design. From a development stand point the trade off is something like they could either develop both genders for a class or they could 75% done with the development of a new class with one gender. In this case though I believe another reason is how Vindictus is a prequel to Mabinogi (never played), the current 5 planned characters are apparently all mentioned in the back story of that game, so in this case you are playing really though there story in that sense.

The is instance focused at the moment. Basically there is 2 common areas (like towns). All the combat areas are instances. I believe the PVP will be as well. This has its pros/cons, and I'm sure due to the combat/physics systems a very likely technical reason as well.

Not really, because in Guild Wars you would leave the town and venture into an open world with your party. There is no open world in Vindictus. It is almost exactly like DDO.

Yeah I figured they would, but I got tired of checking for people asking for keys after about a half a day of it.

Hopefully the person will get some common courtesy and come back with the keys they get from it.
 
I played some last night up to level 4.

* Instances are very linear. Start at point A. Kill everything to point B. Mission accomplished.

* There is no open world. Towns are pretty much the only time you see people if you don't party. If reading that has already turned you off then the game is already not for you. While I'm not crazy about that, the game is supposedly "free" (except for the micro-transaction stuff) so I'll probably play it a bit more.

* The combat is decently fun although a bit shallow at the moment (very very repetitive hack slash). I'm waiting for that to open up just a bit more as I level higher and get more moves/skills.

* The NPC interaction is (I got a kick out of this) old school style with a portrait and a dialog box which shows like 3 lines at a time and you have to hit down to see more.

* Menu system is great unlike the FFIV beta I tried recently. No problems working with it both the in-game and main menu screen for adjusting game options.

* I saw one person say this has good graphics, are you serious? Even with everything maxed I think this looks average for a source engine based game at best.
 
I was able to get a key and one of the areas I am confused about is the crafting. Some of the items say like the gnoll club so and so may be able to break it down and turn it into a shield. I go and visit them and there isn't any option to do anything with that item.
 
started partying for the first time since I've come across a challenging boss. THE LAG IS FUCKING HORRENDOUS. anyone also experience horrible lag? I'm playing on West so not sure if it is better on East.

Go to the Forge and there should be a shield you use it for.
 
Anyone know what the level cap is for open beta? And what the level cap is for the game when it's finally released?
 
I really am liking this game. Repetitive yes, but I can't stop pulling the back-breaker on those stupid gnolls...

It's been pretty cool so far, although I've had some issues.

Game kept crashing at Eyefinity resolution. I had to go down to a single screen.
Random Disconnects from the server.

I will also say that I have yet to figure out where my health is. Is it the Stamina? I thought stamina was only for attacking.

Opponents didn't really attack me any. I wish they had combos right away. All I did was button mash. Is there a way to block eventually? I am the double sworded guy, so no shield...
Oh and that Oracle girl in the prelude was annoying as hell, could've done without her.

The disconnects is likely server issues, which will probably be addressed eventually. I know in CB at the start the servers constantly crashed and had connection issues as well then eventually became more stable, but hey that is what these betas are for.

As for eyefinity you might want to actually contact them and see if they plan on supporting. I don't think for there existing userbase eyefinity is really an issue, however it is a more common setup in North America.

Hp is above the stamina bar. There is no HP bar in the "prelude" part though, I guess since they didn't want you to die in the tutorial.

Game gets harder eventually.

I don't think you can block wit the sword guy since he is more offense based, you have to rely on dodging or someone else to tank.

yes, but it is only a short part of the "prelude" which is basically the tutorial.
 
Alright, well I am excited to see how this all pans out. I saw a dev video talking about how they are all very hopeful for this game to be the groundbreaker for F2P MMOs in the West. If this does well here, get ready for a slew of F2P AAA MMOs.

Even though I have vsync on this game has horrrrrrrrible tearing oh and lag. Other then that I like the combat so far, but that's about it lol.
