G245H, U2311H or ZR24w?

So... I've narrowed the field down a lot but I've yet to decide between these 3

I think at this point I've got to decide which tradeoffs I'm willing to accept... so with that in mind, I want to make sure that my understanding of the monitors is right. (I'm going to be using it for gaming and internet/office/coding)

Acer G245H
Inexpensive ($230)
Great colors, black levels and contrast.
Great response time and input lag.
Has the poor viewing angles all TNs do.
Only 1920x1080

Dell U2311H
Relatively inexpensive ($290)
Great colors, black levels and contrast.
Good response time and input lag.
IPS viewing angles.
Only 1920x1080
Poor QC. I'm really worried of having to return once or multiple times and eventually being told that I'm stuck.

HP ZR24w
Bit pricier ($400)
Great colors.
Ok black levels and contrast.
Ok response time and good input lag.
IPS viewing angles.
It is 1920x1200 (yay!)
QC Issues

Am I overstating the QC issues with the IPS panels? I've just seen a lot of people having a lot of problems with it :(

Have I missed a gem that I should be considering?

A lot of people expect a lot more from an IPS panel, IMO.

I recently bought an U2311h (I've been pimping my picture of it across this forum...lol), and while yes, there is a definate tint (at a strange angle - no other angle gets it for me), there is no other flaw.

It's also a lot easier on my eyes, compared to my old LG 20" TN (less eye strain from long use).

I'm guessing people expect a lot more from an IPS, and deem any normal issues of IPS (that mostly happen at an angle) as a QC issue (i.e, contrast at a heavy angle). Nominally, there are slight unbalances in the coloring, but that's what calibration is for. I swear my U2311h was merely set to "maxed out" on the factory floor, without any calibration whatsoever.

I currently own the HP ZR24w but am considering upgrading to Dell's U2711, as it's on sale right now for $899. I bought the HP ZR24w from Amazon and it came in perfect condition. No dead pixels or anything. I'm happy with the monitor except for one thing - the pixel pitch. I'm extremely picky when it comes to how text looks onscreen, as most people I know aren't nowhere near as picky as I am when it comes to text.

If it's just people being crazy picky that's one thing. But I don't want tints when looking dead-on and I don't want backlight bleed. And those seem to be issues that people have been reporting with those particular panels.

Just a note, while you might think the G245H is more responsive/lower input lag simply because it is a TN vs. IPS, combined with the lower manufacture ratings, in practice this may or may not be the case. If the G245H is the 5ms g2g rated version, both IPS panels may actually be more responsive (though in practice the differences are hardly going to be very significant). Also in terms of input lag we may be talking about a 5ms average difference here (I don't know if anyone has actually measured the G245H), which for most rational people is not really going to be significant. It isn't the case anymore where you have IPS screens that measuring upwards of 30+ ms difference with TNs.

Keep in mind that the G245H is a glossy and the other two are Matte. Personal preference here may or may not be a deal breaker for you.

I do have some concerns on ghosting on the IPS displays. No real concerns with input lag issues on any of the 3, pretty sure all are in the 10ms or less range.

And yeah, I'm aware the G245H is glossy, I'm ok with that. My glossy TV is in the same room (a ln52b750) and it does just fine.

What do you use right now? Ghosting was a huge concern for me as well. I received my U2311H on Monday and there is actually less ghosting than there was on my 5ms TN panel. Unless you're using something right now that has a very low response time, you'll never notice it. The difference in image quality going from a TN to an IPS was also unexpectedly noticeable...I was fully expecting to be disappointed due to over-hype.

And in terms of QC...my Dell is close to perfect. Very little backlight bleed, zero tinting, overall very good quality. Did I get lucky? Maybe.

I'll of course always question whether or not a fast response time or a 120hz monitor would have made a huge difference in gaming...but I certainly can't complain about the superior image quality combined with slightly less ghosting than what I had previously used.

Sounds like response time isn't going to be an issue for me then. I'm on a pair of Samsung 204Bs. Ghosting on them is perfectly acceptable for me, although I'd like less of course ;)

Yeah, I got mine two days ago (U2311h).

It's perfect, to say it modestly.

There may be ghosting, but there is also less input latency. I dunno, I only play Portal and SC2 :p

iirc, one of the reviews stated, once calibrated, the monitor uses 30% less energy - something to do with the factory "calibration" (almost everything set to 100%). It's definately a lot cooler than the old HP w2408h 100W+ monster I used to use! :p

Kitarist, haven't bitten on anything yet. I'm not in a huge hurry.

And snypaz, damnit, now you've expanded my list... that's a hell of a price.

I can get the ZR24W through work for about $330. Not including the resolution advantage, is the ZR24W worth paying the extra $90 over the U2311 (after the coupon promotion)?

Well some people say there is not a huge difference between G245HQ (5ms response + hdmi) and G245HA (2ms but no HDMI) :)

Personally if I decide to go with one of the cheap e-IPS panels I'll be going with one thats 1920x1200

I use a 1600x1200 IPS (an ultrasharp 2001FP) next to a 1600x1200 TN (something ancient) at work, and while I like the viewing angles of the IPS, those of the TN don't really bug me, even next to the IPS. At this point I'm starting to think that I'll be going for a glossy TN for nice crisp text, and just dealing with the viewing angle issues. Although, I'll have to check prices through work $330 for a ZR24w would be mighty tempting too :/

hm, does anyone know anything on NECs LCD24WMCX or EA241WM? How would they compare to the G245H?
