Bought this at best buy on clearance for ~$15 last year and I still haven't opened it. I hear many good things about it though.

On DVD or Blu-ray? If on BR, wow, that was an amazing deal.

I have this series on DVD and it rocks. If I ever get a BR player, then I'd jump on this. :D

Here is the mandatory "OMG WHY DID FOX CANCEL THIS SHOW" posting for any thread that talks about Firefly.

Highly suggest getting this set as the show is simply amazing!

If they took paypal I would be all over it. I really loved the series and the movie rocked. It's a shame they did cancel the series, but what can you expect from Hollywood.

Hmm... I have this and the movie on DVD. It'd be really nice to have on bluray though....

Had the DVD & grabbed the bluray when it was on sale awhile back. Definitely awesome to watch again, and bonus w/ the bluray is the upgraded audio. DTS-HD vs Dolby Digital 2.0

And the mandatory "It was good, but overrated" post too.

yeah you can't go with "overrated"

majority of the public has never heard of this show and most who have, love it

Its a show for nerds that didn't appeal to the mainstream, and thus Hollywood cut it because it was losing money. A lot of what appeals to nerds appeals to a larger mass audience (Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files, etc.), but there are also a lot of shows that get a nice nerd cult following that the mass audiences don't enjoy. I don't know if its shame on the nerds for being into something that doesn't appeal to 99% of the country, or shame on the rest of the country for not embracing their inner nerd more. Either way the show has been canceled for years and its probably time for some of you to move on.

Theirs no sound in space.

bump, I'll consider getting this down the line, don't have the money right now, but i know it's well worth every damn penny.

Actually, it didn't appeal to the FOX execs. They wanted a pure action show, and when they didn't understand it, they scheduled it in a time slot with no real advertising where new shows are sent to die. 7 PM on Friday night.

Kind of like what happened with Space: Above and Beyond.

Is that also why no other network picked it up after Fox dumped it and the film lost money in theaters?

I don't think it deserved to be cancelled, and deserved a wider audience than it did, but I still think it is overrated by its cult following. It's good, but it's not that good. It was better than a lot of things on TV, but I can name concurrently running series that were better.

Firefly suffered from the short-sightedness, and thusly, the lack of priority from the network. Even then-critics have changed their minds, once they got to watch the series in the correct sequence.

My girlfriend is definitely NOT a sci-fi watcher, but I told her that she had to see this series, and then the movie, so we watched it all in one weekend (both down with the flu), and her reaction was "WHAT A GREAT SHOW! WHY DID THEY CANCEL IT?"

When you get that reaction from someone predispositioned to dislike sci-fi, you know it's great.

(However, the argument can be made that it will always be great, because it wasn't on long enough to become tired and lame. "The good die young.")

In a recent interview, Joss Whedon said that A SECOND SERENITY movie depended upon the sales of this set...so BUY IT! Give it as a gift! Use it as a doorstop! Whatever! (I did.)

^ It's been so long since "Serenity" was released that it'd seem a bit forced for it to have a Part 2. Also, the original movie had a satisfactory ending. Bringing out a Part 2 may be as bad as Lucas making Eps. 1-3 for the "Star Wars" series.

I now have the funds to buy it, but I want it at the price point of this deal :(

It's not the greatest series of all time, but goddamn if it wasn't good when you got to sit down and watch it in the correct order.

I think people's appreciation of good TV has gone down lately (not bashing anybody in particular here, just people in general).

Sci-Fi hasn't really been done right recently on TV, so this is a good blast from the past.

That would be ironic if they wanted a pure action show, since effects cost more than dialogue.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Mal is Jim Raynor's grandfather or something, so that's a plus for gamers and fans of space westerns. ;)

I like the western feel, and a small, sovereign ship. It's a big contrast to any Star Trek or Babylon 5. Besides saturation, it would be very interesting to see the early exploits of Han Solo (and Chewbacca) in smuggling, adventures, etc. and Firefly is kind of similar.
