No gaming or movie watching.

What's a good bang for buck monitor in 23"-24" size which is BEST for reading text.

IPS is a requirement, I find the viewing angles of a TN to be very distracting.

Zero gaming and zero movie watching will be done on this monitor.

Crisp, easy text and then color is most important. I do a lot of spreadsheet work and internet browsing and then some photo editing (for personal use).

Thanks guys in advance.

Personally I really like dell's because of the warranty service. I don't know if you like leds or not, I find they are easier to look at if they aren't samsungs (samsungs are too blue-ish white for me and bother my eyes). You could check out the 23" dell Ips screen (not led though but a cheaper ips screen).

Thanks, which Dell do you mean? Is it 16:10?
I prefer more height when working with documents side by side.

Considering the HP ZR24 for $395. Bad idea?

Good idea if you have the money, since the worst part about the ZR24W is that it has bad blacks, and is thus bad for movies. Best part about zr24w is the color uniformity, which is pretty important if you're reading from left to right.

Dell 2209WA. Easy to read IPS monitor, 16:10, great for text, spreadsheets, etc.
1680x1050 which is a plus, so it's not squintavision.

I have the 22009wa and text is very good on it.

I will have the ZR24w by Friday and should be able to compare.

Having said that, text on my wife's glossy 24" iMac is much, much better than on the 2209wa.

I really don't think there's anything better for text than glossy/IPS.

I'm in the same boat myself (and have been looking for a while), 95% of the time the monitor will only be used for text (software development). After allot of reading reviews, forum opinions (and not really getting anywhere) - I have had enough. I am going to order a HP zr24 on Monday and see if I'm happy with it. If not, then I will try the Dell U2410. Then l try the likes of Eizo, Nec (the main reason is the ambient light sensors,).

I don't think you really can make a judgement from reviews and forums (after all beauty is in the eye of the beholder). Ah well, wish me luck and I will let you know if I like the HP.

I almost bit on the 2209WA some time ago but held out. Have read good things about it.

The only thing that concerns me is the heat and energy consumption of the ZR24. Has anyone done killawat measurements with reduced brightness (I hear it's blinding out of the box and i will be using it in a dimmer environment)?

Finally, how difficult would it be to remove the AG coating on the ZR24? I'm used to the coatings though, currently on a Dell 2007FP (S-IPS from a few years ago). I'm sure the glossy is nice but the reflection may get to me.
