I have been using this router for a couple years and never did I once suspect that part of my internet frustrations have been comming from it. The reason being that my Qwest DSL line has always been so un-reliable that I just assumed when downloads were timing out that it was thier fault.

Well after 2 years of cussing out Qwest they have finally fixed my line. But even though my modem wasn't disconnecting every 6 min or so now my downloads were timing out. It was hard to pinpoint because it was only hapening on Youtube and iTunes. Finally today i pulled the plug on the router and connected directly to the wireless built into my modem and the problem went away. The modem dosn't have 5 ghz, but at least it works I will just have to make due until I have money for a dual band router.

When I find time I'm going to try out dd-wrt on that old router to see if it fixes things I guess otherwise it is going in the trash. I want to do something with the router because it supports n over the 5 ghz band wich is a fairly unique option.

Humm, and I just bought a WNDR3700 to play with since I was getting so much crap for running DDWRT on Linksys 54GL's. So far I have been very happy with the performance, though I am working through some auto negotiation issues on the gig ports.

It goes without saying to upgrade the firmware out of the box, but a friend I recommended get one didn't upgrade right away, and found that out of the box all of the guest networking doesn't work.

It could be starting to fail with its age.

Don't know I didn't have reliable internet access until about two weeks agao. Would be only speculation at this point.

I have always kept my firmware up to date. From what I found on the internet it was a common issue with my particular router. I just flashed DD-WRT to it today. I haven't gotten it working yet, I can connect to it through an ethernet port but not through the wireless. So many options in that firmware, it is hard not to destroy things just tweaking away.
