24" HP LP2465 Dual DVI 1080p Widescreen LCD Monitor w/USB 2.0 Hub 179.99 geeks.com

So what's not to love here? Is spva to laggy for gaming?

Yeah, there's a bit of ghosting in dark-to-dark transitions, and there's also a bit of input lag. Not bad, but noticeable if you look for it.

Yep, that about sums up how I feel about my monitor. If I played FPS games more I would probably consider replacing mine. I was just playing Borderlands and the black outlines really make the ghosting obvious. It's kind of annoying.

Ok, to what kind of connector do I need to plug this into my PC? I think my PC has the VGA input (blue input). The cable that it came with fits fine into the monitor but won't fit into my PC.

So would this be a lot better for video/photo editing than pretty much any TN panel, but still decent for gaming?? I'm really thinking of biting on one of these ...

The monitor has DVI ports. You'll need an adapter or a cable has a dvi on one end and vga on the other http://vgatodvicable.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/dvi-vga-cable.jpg. Interestingly enough one of mine came with that cable.

Before I spend money on this cable I have another question. I plan on buying a 5850 in the near future. If I do this then the monitor will plug into the video card right? Does the 5850 have VGA or DVI input, or both? If it has DVI theres no point in getting the dvi to vga cable.

The 5850 does not have any VGA inputs, only DVI, HDMI, and Displayport. No point in getting the cable if you're going 5850 soon.

I knew about the ghosting going into the purchase, which is why these monitors are the left and right monitors for my surround setup, with my E248 as the center monitor. To me it is very, very hard to notice input lag and ghosting when these are used for my peripheral vision.

Kinda glad I didn't bite when hearing about the ghosting problems.

I'm never going to get rid of this damn CRT at this rate. The picture quality shits all over LCDs (that I can afford) and makes it great for gaming, but I really want to be able to hook my consoles up to my monitor. The extra desk space would also be nice. I've had this thing forever.

I almost bought these but kept waiting. I ended up getting 3 Dell 2311H IPS monitors (220 a piece or so). I have yet to test them in gaming but I will report if I see ghosting in Borderlands.

Can someone please post a link to where I can purchase a cable that connects this monitor to a VGA input on my PC? I bought a connector from the egg but it's the wrong one (the blue input on the connector does not have any pins so it can't be plugged into the back of the PC). The cables I have seen at the egg look different from the dvi cable that came with this monitor ( it has 3x3 pins than a break than 3x3 pins break and one long horizontal pin). The ones at the egg don't have the break in between the two sets of pins.

I'm guessing this cable would work? It looks different from the one that came with the monitor (the DVI input).

It's got horrible reviews if it indeed is the cable I need.

Would this cable work?

Is there anyway to hook up a PS3 to this monitor?

Since the specs are listed on the first page I'm going to say yes there is. HDMI to DVI

Yep but you wont get sound.

Unless someone can confirm I'm actually gonna disagree. The reason I say that is that I had three of these for eyefinity. There's no HDCP on these so I was unable to hook up anything that required it. I'd get picture for maybe a second or so and it'd lock me out on my cable box and I wanna say a bluray player I had. If a PS3 requires HDCP(I dont own one) then no I don't think it will work.

On a more important note

PRO

These monitors fucking rock. Trying to find some pictures of my setup. They are good for gaming but you may see very slight ghosting if you're playing anything highspeed. The color quality more than makes up for it. used mine for CSS, BFBC2 and Burnout Paradise Eyefinity/surround. Totally worth it.

PROTRAIT. Screen rotation is awesome. end of story.

CONS

NO HDMI - hdmi is becoming a hassle because it's so prevalent over DVI.
NO DP - Eyefinity was a pain when it came out because I had to buy an Active DP adapter.
Bezels are ugly. its annoying but you get over it.

No eisa? these are custom. you can't mount them or anything gotta use the stand. It's sucks but you get over it.

Refurb Here's the big one. I've never met anyone who bought one of these refurbed and didn't have to send it back. I had to send all three of mine back to newegg for screen scratches. Newegg was cool as fuck about it no charge. Geeks....IDK.

I've got one of these. Literally. I got it as a refurb'd deal from Geeks.com awhile back.

Love it. Use it at work. Nice sharp display, vibrant color, and most importantly, great viewing angles, which is important because I frequently have other developers coming over and looking over my shoulder at various things I'm working on. You'd never know it was a refurb looking at it - no scratches or marks on the bezel, no dead pixels, nothing. Granted, I haven't gamed on it or anything, but I have watched movies on it just fine. My only complaint: the USB ports on it are in an inconvenient spot, so I don't use them (if they were in the base, it would have been a lot better).

And I've had it since December of 2009, so it's 2+ years old at this point without any sort of grief.

So...anecdotal. Balance that against the "I got one and instantly had to return it" folks for what it's worth...

Do you mean VESA? Because these do have VESA support, I had mine mounted with a desk clamp stand for years.

Yeah I meant Vesa.

I don't know I recall the lock mount on mine not being removable but the pictures I'm seeing online on some don't match mine.

I have two of these mounted on a triple monitor stand using the VESA mounts on the back. You have to slide the plastic piece off that connects to the HP stand and unscrew the underlying plastic portion. I ordered mine from Geeks a while ago, and have not had any issues.

The HDCP issue is quite true though, and frankly that has been my only frustration. I am unable to use this as a monitor for windows media center with a hd homerun cable card extender. I will likely attempt to sell these soon and pick up two additional matching displays for my korean 27".
