BFG Goes the Way of Diamond

That would be great if they kept the BFG customer service the same, if they operate the same way as Diamond I would not bite.

Pretty lame that a company can come in and cherry-pick what it wants from an old brand. They shouldn't be able to sell BFG branded cards unless they are willing to pick up warranty claims, etc from existing BFG customers IMO.

Good luck with that, Diamond is probably the worst Ati AIB partner for warranty functions of any kind.

It takes more than a name to make a good card company. Reliable products, good customer service, lifetime warranty, trade up program - will the new owners continue all of that?

Sounds like to me that BFG was planning this all along. Go under, screw all the customers and their warranties, and then resurrect themselves as an ATI partner under a new name.

Yes that is complete bullshit that they can continue to use the name without honoring warranties. Just another company on my do-not-buy from list now.

it does not matter the bfg we knew is completely gone staff and all. now how can a new company that purchased the liquidated assets honor warrantys. the purchasing company is not responsible for the past business dealings of bfgtech at all. as for the ati cards that was explained here http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=982. last ditched effort of a company on a sinking ship in the end amd said NO to them tough luck that is how it goes

BFG sucks, I thought they were pretty good before but now I see they are just douche bags

My first video card was a Diamond HD4870 512MB reference and it was rock solid for the year I had it. The failure rates are the lowest too out of any board partner I have seen, but thank god I never had to RMA.

Did you actually read what Kyle wrote? BFG went into bankruptcy and sold everything.

The problem is the scum who own Diamond are the ones who bought the BFG name/website. This wasn't planned or else BFG would have just gone into bankruptcy awhile back to settle debt & contracts and then started selling ATI cards.

Part of the problem was BFG wasn't able to sell ATI cards like XFX. Best Data already has a contract to sell ATI cards so they can just slap the BFG name on instead of Diamond.

We just have to make sure to want people not to buy BFG cards now.

Still got a Diamond 3870 kicking around somewhere. So if the quality on the new "BFG" cards are good then thats a good sign. Still yeah I've heard people say their support staff sucks.

Diamond cards are great as long as you never need to RMA them. Diamond is probably the only brand that sticks with the reference design. In the end just think if them as having no warranty of any kind.

The decent thing for Diamond to do would be to pick up current customer warranties but as others have pointed out good luck with that.

bad enough that they went under, now Diamond has them. They have already canned all the talent they had at BFG. So all that can come of this is further dragging the BFG brand through the mud

Yes I read that article. But remember BFG saying a little while before that warranties would still be honored? All I'm saying is that it is entirely possible BFG planned this whole thing to sell off to Diamond. Bankruptcy, liquidation, etc, etc...all just part of the plan to sell the brand off and make sure Diamond did not need to honor old warranties. Call me a conspiracy theorist I don't care.

You are a conspiracy theorist.

I had 2 high end BFG cards and a 1200 watt PSU from them. All of them purchased within one year. This is causing me to loose faith in smaller companies. This is simply disgusting. I just ordered a GTX480 from MSI, hopefully they will stick around a bit longer.

MSI has been around a long time, big and old-ish company, and has a broad portfolio. They aren't near as specialized.

Wow. Way to get your tinfoil hat out!

This is the only Diamond card I've ever owned...the one that was in my first PC. It served me well playing Thief and Tomb Raider.

How bout that passive cooling huh

It's not going to be the same old BFG anymore, so not sure why they bought the name. If they start honoring warranties then I might be a little impressed.

Once a company is bankrupt, they lose control of everything, including who gets to purchase the assets.
BFG could have no more dictated Best Data (not Diamond) buying the assets than you or I.

I think I see a hole in the back of your tinfoil hat.
Better get that taken care of....

I have never had to RMA anything to Diamond, and while I haven't heard outright good things about them I do take [H]ard members claims with a grain of salt, since they are much more likely than the average person to overclock, overvolt or otherwise modify their cards. Diamond could only guarantee their cards to run at the specs they were designed for.

Again, I never had any experience with them so if someone got a dud right out of the box and then couldn't get any customer service then please do share.

Are you guys serious? It is hardly uncommon for a larger company to buy out assets of another company going under. It has nothing to do with BFG not wanting to honor your warranty and Best Data is under no obligation to do so, nor should they be. The BFG corporation is dissolved and it's assets absorbed by another entity. BFG's liability (warranties) doesn't have to transfer over. Get over it.

It Sucks!

BFG had great customer service, that it wasn't offshored was a huge feather in their cap. They even RMA'd cards from ebay that weren't registered in my name (I got an upgrade out of it to boot). It's sad to see them go under like they did, and to have a no-customer service company take their name is a real kick in the teeth. :(

Does not have to be responsible != incapable of honoring previous warranties.

I agree they don't have to. Doesn't mean they can't, though.

Heh ... last time I heard mention of Best Data was when I bought a (new at the time) 28.8 modem back in '92 !!

Ohh, you kids and your broadband .. you don't know how good you have it ... *shakes head*

If they're going to start handling warranties, I feel dumb for not buying that 275 OC for $120 new! Think they will?

I'm sorry but FUCK Diamond, i tried to RMA a ATi 4890 i bought some time back that happened to be a Diamond card(one was good another had issues with the core latter down the road...). They said they could not create a RMA for me unless i mailed them the receipt of purchase that proved that it was a Diamond card.

Uh, what the hell are all the bar codes with serial numbers on the back of the card for?! Mistake learned, I will buy else where regardless of how good the price deal is.

I probably still have a Best Data 2400 baud modem somewhere. Good times. I love me some BBS.

Damn that was probably worth the risk imo.. where was this deal??

Well I was estimating, but at geeks.com they had a bundle for a brand new 275 OC, with a brand new Antec Six Hundred case, with a refurbished XFX 780i mobo, all for $189 shipped.

It's rare that they do. Did they honor the pre Best Data, Diamond warranties? The answer to that will prolly be mirrored in the BFG situation.
